GOG.com Don't Plan On Introducing Linux Support In The Foreseeable Future UPDATED
6 September 2013 at 8:40 pm UTC

I hate to say it, but perhaps you (GoL) could have put the update in a new post, as we now have a hellish mix of comments from the first "we won't support linux" post and now the "we might in future support linux" update.

Not a great PR response though. It seems that they won't support linux because our impossibly high standards mean it's too much work and compromise is not an option? It would be absurdly simply for them to narrow the scope of this to say "We support Ubuntu LTS releases only" and an absolute flood of sales would come their way for minimal effort. And I suspect that the bulk of non-Ubuntu users wouldn't really care either, because they'll know that if it works on Ubuntu LTS, it's really likely to work on their distro too. Everyone's a winner (eventually)

But no, as Caldazar notes, they appear to treat linux as all or nothing. It's a goddam miracle they're not counting Android as one of their three "distros". Does anyone bar GoG consider ChromeOS to be a "distro"?

Bizarre stuff. But no need for the disrespectful responses people. It's their business and they'll run it however they want. Some of the chat on here sounds like petulant teenagers arguing about whose ball it is!

I do mean Constant C yes. You've made me pledge to so many Kickstarters/IndieGogos that I've pretty much lost track of them all. I pledged to C-wars too. I think...

[Edit : Yes. Yes I did. <sigh>]

Baldur's Gate:Enhanced Edition Is Still Heading To Linux
3 September 2013 at 8:07 pm UTC

Didn't know about this - very hyped. I loved the BG series and it's been so long since I played a really good RPG and I love the D&D back end. Speaking of which, is this still based on 2nd Edition? Or have they updated it - I think Neverwinter used 3rd Edition and didn't NW2 use 4th? I'm not sure, but I liked the 3rd ruleset - it was much simpler to understand.

Another two backed here. Munt, you're costing me a fortune dude! C-Wars, despite it's flexible funding because it looks nearly complete, and I backed Enhanced Wars too because I played Advance Wars and AW-Dual on my DS back in the day... for about 60+ hours. Really looking forward to that one!

PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate Is Heading To Linux

Sweet! PixelJunk are porting ALL their back catalogue to linux. I CAN'T WAIT for Shooter 1 and 2. Unlike Monsters where I need to be convinced to buy it again... I'll be shelling full price for those two. And maybe Eden as well if they're porting the lot. Great news!

PixelJunk Monsters Ultimate Is Heading To Linux

Just noticed that Pixel-Q are working on moving their entire back catalogue over to Steam. I've left a comment asking for Shooter 1 or 2 to be included in the linux-porting too. Fingers crossed. These guys make some of the best games I've played on the PS3. If you've never played the Shooter series, it's almost worth picking up an old PS3 just for them (or begging for it to come to linux, like I am). Eden is great fun too, in a slower-paced kind of way.

I've got this on PS3 and it's really, properly tough. A really good TD game - very pretty, very challenging.

I'd be delighted to play it again (never use my PS3 these days), but at £15, it's one I have to work hard to justify. I'm sure there's extra content in the Steam version though, so we'll see.

[Edit : Couldn't resist signing up for the Beta testing. You never know...]

Steam's August Hardware Survey, Linux Dips Below 1%
2 September 2013 at 7:44 pm UTC

Quoting: richie442Serious Sam 3 :BFE, Brutal Legend, Legend of Grimrock, Crusaders Kings 2, Europa Universalis IV, Portal ( Portal 2 coming), Left 4 Dead 2, Killing Floor, The Cave, CS: Source, DOTA 2, Team Fortress 2, Eurotruck Simulator 2 ( beta), Natural Selection 2, Trine 2, Metro: Last Light coming, Cities in motion coming, Wasteland 2 coming, Amnesia: Machine for pigs, Tropico 5 is coming, X3 is on Linux, Wargame is on Linux, Football Manager 2014. Of course, that's not so much compared to Windows..but just remember when Linux client came out :).....   there is already a bunch of really good looking games on Linux.. and i hope in the future there will be more of them

That's a nice list.

If I'm being petty, then I think we need to see an commitment from Unreal to bring their technology over. That would open the door for titles like Borderlands 1 & 2, Bioshock Infinite and Dishonoured among others (Sanctum, which I love, or even the likes of Mass Effect). I know that ports have been done for Killing Floor and Dungeon Defenders, but they have been hacked ports, not "official" support from the engine designers.

Also, Skyrim. Just saying.

And of course, all we need to bring another 8 million potentials over would be World of Warcraft support. But I can't see that happening. Or Skyrim, if I'm being honest.

But I live in hope that U3 makes an appearance at some point.

Steam's August Hardware Survey, Linux Dips Below 1%

I agree that purchases are more important. 113 of my 389 games are now linux friendly. However, it's fair to say that I've played most of those 113 games to death when Steam wasn't available to linux.

We're close to a tipping point though - Steam has now been available on linux long enough that newer games are coming through that I have only ever played on linux. The excellent "Gateways", recent "Natural Selection", "Teleglitch", "Sir you are being Hunted", "DOTA2" and maybe a dozen others. It's now been around a month since I logged into Windows to play a game (some DLC from the summer sale - Dishonoured and Borderlands). And the only games that have tempted me to consider Windows in the last 3 months (I resisted) are PayDay 2 and possibly the new Saints Row game.

But of course none of this matters, because I wasn't asked to participate in the Steam survey.

Greenheart Games Detail The Delay For Game Dev Tycoon Linux Updates And Steam Support
2 September 2013 at 10:28 am UTC

I loved Kairosoft's Game Dev Story on Android and this looks like a more in-depth spiritual successor, so I'll likely dip into my wallet for this one. Also, I loved what Greenheart did to highlight piracy - if you haven't read their awesome story, I'd recommend you do so. Very funny, in a really depressing kind of way.
