If You Like… Diablo

Great shout. Chronicon has a very satisfying gameplay loop, although I eventually fell out of love with it for two reasons. First, there's no multiplayer. And second, the core mechanic encourages chaining multiple large groups of enemies together so that your multiplier "stays alive". This means you end up running around the level not actually killing anything at all, but just getting it to chase you, then you kind of get stuck into this enormous group of enemies. This kills the exploration for me, and large levels become a bit of a chore if you're chasing that big multiplier. Great game though.
And I've actually just noticed that the Steam page is claiming local/split-screen co-op, so maybe that was added?
No pressure. No PRESSURE!
I've just checked my list and I have around 12 of these articles currently planned out. Yep, they do take a while to do them justice, but when I find time, they're definitely getting written! Next one might be L4D2, but might be Hollow Knight... or something else. Not sure!

Quoting: NezchanNot seeing any mention of Chronicon, which gets pretty high marks from the Diablo 2/3 and Grim Dawn crowd. I haven't played a lot of it, but it seems pretty fun.

Quoting: denyasisI really like this article (and the theme!!). I know wiring something like this takes a lot of time and effort, but I'm really looking forward to more!!

That's an incredibly privileged position. A few of the studies I've skimmed talk about why piracy is rampant either in countries where the pirated material isn't sold, or the living wage is so low that it rules out legitimate purchase of (that kind of) leisure material.
Sure, not everyone is in that boat, and I'm sure a lot of rationalisation is happening. But globally, there's a myriad of reasons for piracy. Emulation, perhaps not so much, I haven't considered it much. But I'm sure are plenty of cases there too.

Quoting: poiuzNo, I'm wagging the finger at hypocrites who try to disguise that they're simply cheapskates. Do whatever you want to do, I don't care. But don't rationalize your behaviour with an imaginary fight for freedom. You can live your live without playing Nintendo games on your PC, you're not resisting anything by playing Nintendo games on your PC.

It's been said before in this thread - this argument is false. You can google various studies that show that no meaningful money is lost due to the existence of piracy or emulation, because 99% of the people involved wouldn't be spending their money on the "real" product anyway. Maybe you, personally, have a different opinion, but you, and your ethically pure cadre, are statistically insignificant when actual blind studies are run.

Quoting: GeneralErrorThey are a bit extreme about emulation and copyright enforcement in general, but I can understand that. They do lose business because of this, either in sale of virtual console titles, or in people not buying the games or consoles.

The first article Liam wrote on this was an absolute eye-opener for me on how exploitative Roblox is to their gaming base - kids. Good riddance.

Just to note - this is just Valve getting around to marking it. GFR has been playable since the Proton 6 days - I have hundreds of hours of single and multi-player in this game. It's seamless - just hit play.

Amazingly, it's still going, being bought by mail.ru in 2010 after AOL's buyout a few years prior. Sadly, mail.ru (now known as VK) is Russian owned and made headlines by cooperating with Russian authorities to grant access to conversations - something not possible with end-to-end encrypted services like Signal, or Whatsapp. Even Telegram, which isn't end-to-end encrypted, refuses (mostly) to grant access to authorities. So I wouldn't be chasing those credentials any time soon!

Quoting: lejimsterQuoting: SoulprayerWell, i don't use ICQ anymore (I deleted my account years ago) but i still know my number as it would be my telephone...I haven't heard anyone mention ICQ in ages. I had a few good friends from my UT99 days on there that I lost contact with because I forgot my login details and couldn't retrieve them.
I'm only in Discord for some games, which i like.

I want an option in Discord to always show the username instead of the display name. Even on the GOL discord where people rarely change their name, it's still confusing as hell when they do. An option to turn off those shitty taglines after the username would be welcome too. It's just so cluttered.
Cleaner usernames will be good, however, although there will likely be some people not getting the name they want. This change won't please everyone, for sure.

I like the look of this, but it'll need to be excellent to beat out Elderborn as the best melee FPS I've ever played. I like the look of the dash mechanic - and who doesn't like a bit of "the floor is lava" thrown in for good measure. Still... £6 - incredible! And native doesn't hurt either!

Such a backwards mentality. I'm relieved I never let my two boys near this car crash. Now it's 2023, over a year after the Deck's launched and this is their mentality? Incompetent.

Such a frustrating article - I knew there was a reason I stopped reading Phoronix! To see such massive drops in framerate and other areas, but then cite "a lack of time" to understand why is just half-assed. Particularly when there's at least one report on Ubuntu's discourse that they're seeing an increase!
Of course, I'm not suggesting that one rumoured increase on Nvidia contradicts over 60 benchmarks - Larabel knows his stuff and his article shows that surely something is negatively affecting performance. But to publish this with only a vague "maybe it's a kernel, or perhaps it's gnome/mutter" comment feels pretty disingenuous.
At least one of his audience has commented that the missing performance re-appears under OpenBox, so Larabel's hunch that it's gnome/mutter might be borne out. But the damage is done, I suspect.
