Vampire Survivors started a craze and the 1.0 release is out now

I don't think Crimsonland is really relevant. It's a twin-stick for a start. It's also over a tenner. It lacks synergy building. But most importantly, the original came out in 2004, and the remake was 2014, but barely anyone has heard of it. It wasn't new or influential in the way that VS obviously is, to have created a new genre, an entire industry of clones.
It's more Smash TV than Vampire Survivors. Robotron with weapon choice.
But who knows, maybe the devs did get their inspiration there.

Quoting: anewsonQuoting: AvikarrOkay, I see there was an article about this genre and Crimsonland is mentioned :) I thought, that people forgot about this game.
you're not wrong - I wrote the horde article and I didn't know about Crimsonland, luckily Liam did

Amazing service - I can't believe there's a sequel to A Plague Tale!! Woohoo!
EDIT: Also, Denuvo-encumbered titles are clearly marked as such, as is anti-cheat. Brilliant attention to detail.

Sure, I know it's DRM. But I'm curious why I can play Netflix at 720p, but not 1080p or 4K. And DRM is usually optional - like, install this codec/software and now we trust you, you can play. But we don't get that option on the Linux desktop. We get 720p if we're lucky, like Netflix, Prime, Disney+, and nothing if we're not (NowTV). It's weird.
On Netflix, you can check the technical specs of a given stream by hitting CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D, which confirms 720p for me.
EDIT: I guess Mr-Victory answered that one. I didn't realise there were "levels" in the WideVine DRM. I didn't even realise that the WideVine firefox plug-in was what was giving me that ability to play at 720p.

How is it that Android-based players, such as the Amazon FireTV boxes, which are based on Linux (the kernel), can play 4K streams from Netflix and Prime? I've never understood what's missing from the core Linux desktop experience to make this such a problem.

Quoting: constQuoting: minkiuWith the Big Screen feature, the Deck could easily replace any Android TV set box... now if only Netflix et al. could be bothered to package their apps for linux... :D
They won't because they can't deliver high resolution video on linux, anyway. Their license agreements with publishers demand them to check for full encryption pipelines, even though everyone knows the last chain, hdcp, can be broken by most cheap hdmi splitters from bargain bins. It's really stupid, but that's how things are. There's no way for them to talk all big publishers into delivering the content without these checks and Linux will not get official support for high-resolution streaming for years, if ever.
I guess the only way around that would be having GPUs that can receive, decode and display the stream in firmware without any further OS controlled IO.

I don't understand how 17 Linux users can possibly influence Facepunch's decision. Even if they were all cheaters, c'mon.
No more Steam Deck reservation queue — buy it now, plus Docking Station available

It felt a bit outbursty though, imo. The pricing is premium, but hardly absurd, as other comments have shown (better spec, addition of premium charger). And Valve still are the good guy, I think, by not demanding you use that premium product - go buy the JSAUX if that suits your price point. Other vendors won't let you do so (Apple, Nintendo mainly).
And as for making the product better - nah. As much as I love GamingOnLinux, and as much as I appreciate Liam's relationships with Valve staff and everything he does to promote Linux as a viable platform... a comment on a thread on GOL isn't going to help improve anything, sadly. If only it did!
But hey, we all enjoy a rant (to a point), and this site does a remarkable job of allowing most/all voices to be heard, providing they stick to the rules.

Quoting: KacperTheLinuxGamerMy comment wasn't meant to be an outburst, I've just noticed a trend of people who can't take any criticism of Valve, mostly on the Steam forums which is the designated channel for bug reporting.
I got blamed by the users there for a software issue I was having.
Criticism is important in developing products, I hope those people realise that it will make the Steam Deck better.

All I can tell you is that neither of those domains existed in over 3 months of PiHole logs until I tried the link above today... so hopefully you're over-reacting in this case. But again, no judgement from me, Ehvis. I see that you already support the site as a Supporter Plus, as do I. There are lots of ways to support GOL and if affiliate links cross the line in the sand you marked for tracking, that's understandable.

Quoting: EhvisQuoting: scaineWell... sure? They're tracking the payment to Liam's account in this case though. Up you, of course. I wasn't suggesting that we should all do this, I was just pointing out the easiest route to help support GOL financially.
It's a shame so many affiliate links use tracking methods though. Also a shame that Steam doesn't offer an affiliate scheme - there would be decent money in that, I'd think!
I'm sure they're at least attempting to track a whole lot more than that. In fact, I suspect that this is the way their now trying to fund this whole thing. Because why would a store go trough all the trouble of using an external company when they still have to collect all the data themselves? I don't trust any of the schemes at all and each of those domains gets a full block. It's unfortunate that I can't use the links anymore, but to me these links are no better than tracked ads.

Quoting: EhvisQuoting: scaineJust a quick note on the Fanataical links - if you're running a PiHole on default settings, you'll have to whitelist www.anrdoezrs.net and www.emjcd.com. This is similar to the issue faced with GOG affiliation, which used track.adtraction.com.
Also, uBlock Origin will complain about the first URL, but that's easily overriden/allowed by buttons on the block page, so less of an issue.
Sounds to me like those things are doing their job in preventing unnecessary tracking. I see no reason to change that.
