Mixing tower defense and dungeon crawling, Dwerve releases May 31
21 April 2022 at 8:13 pm UTC

Quoting: MigwellWhy are these tower defence games never co op! It seems like the perfect genre for it.

Yep, Dungeon Defenders had a nice mechanic for co-op play, albeit later levels devolved into simply letting the highest level player place all the traps or die. And conversely, you largely had to play DD in co-op as there were just too many enemies in solo - the scaling wasn't great down the way.

I'm really, really looking forward to Dwerve. The demo had a couple of issues though - first, it felt like the levels had to be completed with certain towers, and second, when things went wrong, it was very hard to turn it around. But it has so much promise and like the best interactive TD games, it felt that you made a difference wherever you stood.

This will be an insta-buy when it lands, I think.

Joey is awesome, but I can't believe I've only just discovered that he pronounces Ubuntu incorrectly (mostly - seems to nail at 3m 15s for some reason... he's toying with us!).

Great video, and so nice to see another Ubuntu release. They'll be coming up on 20 years before you know it! Sure, they've definitely shifted focus significantly over the past few years and it's all about delivering Ubuntu "everywhere" now, and not just the desktop. And sure, everyone loves to hate on snap, now that systemd is just an accepted thing - gotta hate on something, right?

But they're still a huge part of the Linux landscape, so their success is all our success. And they got both Wayland and Pipewire into the LTS, so that should help push both into more mainstream use. I mean, who uses Fedora, eh? No-one, that's who.

Game manager Lutris continues Flatpak improvements

Quoting: hardpenguinMeanwhile Humble login still broken. Ez gg
Out of curiosity, do you use 2FA?

Broken for me too. 2FA doesn't matter - when you turn it off, it reverts to 2FA via email. But the problem is that when you enter your username and password, then hit "Login", the page (in Lutris, it's like an embedded web page) just flickers and does nothing.

Other logins seem to work. Just Humble is broken.

It's a recurring issue - there are currently two tickets open on the Lutris github, this one, which suggests it's a cloudflare issue and this more recent one which doesn't seem to suggest any fixes at all.

Introversion classic Darwinia gets remastered with better Steam Deck support

I loved my time with Darwinia. I remember it being one of the first games I played on Linux that made me think "wait a minute, this "linux gaming" malarky might actually have legs!" it was that good. Lovely to see an remaster.

No Man's Sky got a huge 'Outlaws' update and works well on Steam Deck

Quoting: syxbitNo Man's Sky is highly regarded on PS5. Are your bugs related to the Steam version, or Steam via Proton?
it was Steam version. I hope it's true, I am something like weak Linux (ab)user :)
but the errors was recreated on Win 10 and 11 too. We experienced the issues with lost progress only in multiplayer to non hosting players. The save spot (or what is the correct name for it) did not work right.

Try to edit wires in the building and you will see the disappearing of things. (the workaround for this one is not to edit, just to delete the wire and never edit/delete wires/furniture around expensive equipment).

Quoting: NezchanSo much of the game is about exploring individual planets and doing things there, but the main storyline (should you choose to follow it) heavily encourages you to *not* do that, but hop from system to system instead, not wasting more time than necessary at any particular one. And that doesn't depend a bit on difficulty.

So I played it wrong :) I have been building bases on every planet I liked a tiny bit and identifying everything in the system before I moved on... hmmm...

I found main story broken (the goals was not generated, or maybe it was generated deep in the solid rock) right at the start and I did not try to reset it and continue with it.

I don't want to make an impression the game is bad! The game is beautiful, fun and full of content (1/4 discount on Steam right now ;) ).

Sounds like you've had a really hard time! In 130 hours, I've experienced a single bug, where a completed (side) quest stayed active, even though I got the reward and it didn't block anything.

Agree with how dull the main quest gets, but it's pretty good until it asks you to do the system-hopping. I never bothered with that. I completed the other two primary quest lines as far as they could go, and when I got to the point where the third primary quest line asks you to system hop, I realised the game had turned into Elite:Dangerous and I uninstalled it.

It's a great game overall though - thoroughly enjoyed my time in it. Outlaws isn't enough of a pull to play it again so soon (I only un-installed it last month), but it'll be a nice addition when I decide I want to revisit it later.

Oh god, it's really good! Send help!

Although I did find that my PS5 controller was unplayably janky, so I switched to kbd/mouse. The interface isn't perfect, but the gameplay is lovely and the whole game is so smooth and pretty. Really enjoying it!

Good grief, you didn't just do the classic troll of "people who disagree with me aren't intelligent" did you?

Yes you did. Goddam.

Quoting: GuestSo my reasoning cannot be contradicted.

At this point, after multiple readers have contradicted (often with evidence) nearly every sentence you've written on this subject, I'm not sure if you're stubborn or delusional. I'm gobsmacked you're still going though.

You genuinely don't recognise a lost cause? You've certainly killed any desire I had to try FreeBSD, that's for sure.

And other links don't. But you're still trying to tear people down.

Quoting: GuestIn the past, FreeBSD users have questioned these benchmarks
It sounds like you question literally anything that attacks your beliefs. This is pretty common - we all do it. It's just that, in this thread, you're doing it over and over without seemingly any self-awareness.

I mean, you're quoting benchmarking articles from over 10 years ago to demonstrate that FreeBSD is... 8% faster?

At least you're finally trying to make a positive case though. It's just not a very strong case.

I hope FreeBSD continues to do well. But you're barking up the wrong tree here by making these arguments on a LINUX gaming site.

When I switched to Linux in 2005, then fully ditched Windows in 2013, I was aware of the sacrifices I was making to embrace a tiny niche in the technology world. I don't have any interest in jumping ship to an even more niche part of that world. I'm glad it exists. I just want no part of it. Yet. Maybe in 20 years, when Linux is sporting a cool 20% market share and FreeBSD is the new 1%, that's when I'll start thinking, "maybe this FreeBSD could be fun".

But I doubt it. Good luck to you.
