Dorfromantik gets controller upgrades for the Steam Deck

Quoting: fleskAccording to a Wayback Machine snapshot from 2021-02-02, the Linux version on Itch was untested, which might explain why they decided against releasing it on Steam. If they release a native Linux version in the future though, I'll buy it.

And of course, there's Liam (), commenting that he tried the untested build and the only issue was the codec used for videos in-game. Shame the dev decided to push on single platform. Hopefully, they'll bite the bullet, although I suppose with recent comments stating that it works okay with Proton, they might just not bother - the argument against Proton that's been made by some.

I didn't understand. I still don't honestly. Maybe I need to try to breathe deeply, that'll help.

Perhaps I just don't really know what you mean by PR articles. Public Relations... articles? Like you think this site is over-promoting the Deck somehow? In that case, we'll agree to differ. As I said above, I'm loving all the Deck content. After the failure of the Steam Machines, seeing the Deck off to a flying start is incredibly exciting. It's great (to me) reading about the interface, battery, heat, custom Mangohud, new BPM interface, performance. The games (to me) are less interesting because as long as they nail the controls and compensate text for the tiny screen, it's as you point out - just a handheld PC.

One Deck Dungeon gets 'optimized' for the Steam Deck

Went to buy this and discovered that not only did I already own it, I appear to have spent 10 hours levelling up the mage character!?

Okay. Played another few hours last night and it didn't ring a single bell, so presumably I bought it in EA, or something. Or I've just played too many games. Or both.

Anyway, great fun, highly recommended. Think "Dicey Dungeons" but with more RNG in the adventures themselves.

Quoting: NezchanHopefully they'll release an actual Linux version soon. The original version on itch had native support, and as far as I'm aware there hasn't been any big changes to the engine.

I don't think so - the Prototype is still available on Itch, but is Windows-only and appears to have been so since its inception (there are several comments asking for both Linux and Mac versions there). The GOG version is also Windows only.

This looks really, really like Islanders - which is a good thing. Think I actually prefer this approach, where the tiles dictate placement, instead of trying to position stuff to pixel-perfect precision for maximum effect.

Quoting: eldarionI really hope this fever will pass (no offense to the Steam Deckers out there).
I hope it doesn't. It's one of the biggest things to ever help Linux gaming as a whole, and any games I write about would work on a Linux desktop too.

Only time will tell. It's just that recently the news here looked too much as a Valve PR satalite then a Linux gaming news site. More about steam deck itself and less about actual games.

Don't you think a successful dedicated gaming device running Linux and hundreds, soon thousands of games verified to run on Linux and what most probably will be number one on many game of the years lists running on Linux at least as good as (supposedly better than) on Windows is like medium important for the topic at hand, "gaming on Linux"?

Strange conclusion you made based on what I said. I fail to see where I said it as not important.

You didn't say it outright. But that was strongly implied in your criticism that there were too many Deck articles. Or rather "games for Deck" articles. Honestly, I don't even know what you meant when you suggested you wanted more Deck articles, but less games articles? It's a console for playing games, and doesn't have perfect compatibility - of course the bulk of the articles is about games. This is a gaming site.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the ride, at least. And judging by the views counts both on here and on Youtube, it seems that there's a decent number of people enjoying it too!

Proton Experimental Beta gets Steam Deck performance fix for ELDEN RING

Quoting: rustybroomhandleSeems to be here, but with Experimental bleeding-edge it does not seem to load Steam Input and the Overlay and my controller is not recognised.
I've heard as much for Experimental, but controller support seems pretty solid (for me) on GE. At least my dualsense (PS5) controller works perfectly.
Which GE version are you running? I have a PS5 DualSense as well and so far it has failed to work at all with Experimental beta, Experimental, 7.0-1, 7-5-GE and 7.3-GE-1.

It's been a few days, but it was GE-Proton-7.3 (NOT Proton-GE) at the time I think. 7.4 is out now. But you have activate the controller in Steam/Settings/Controllers/Profiles before it's recognised.
Hmm, I just tried with GE-Proton-7.3 and got the same result. I'm not sure what you mean by `Steam/Settings/Controllers/Profiles`? I don't have `Profiles` under the main Steam settings nor in BPM. I have tried selecting a custom mapping for the game, and togging forcing Steam Input on/off but neither did anything.
I should mention that the controller is working beautifully in BPM and Horizon Zero Dawn.

EDIT: Also, I'm trying it out on Pop!_OS, just like you. Very weird stuff.
EDIT 2: I just tried the Windows trick of disconnecting everything but the controller and launching from BPM, still no-go.

Go to Steam/Settings, click Controller, then Desktop Configuration, then at the bottom of the new window, click "Browse Configs", go to "Templates" and choose "Gamepad".

DXVK v1.10 and VKD3D-Proton v2.6 out improving Proton for Linux and Steam Deck

Gotta admit, I'm sat here gobsmacked that someone thought Elex was decent enough to warrant a sequel.

That's all I got from reading this. Damn.

p.s. awesome news about the underlying tech that powers Linux gaming....

XCOM 2's multiplayer being removed but will still work on Linux and Steam Deck

Quoting: Termy
Quoting: scaineThat's not really particularly fair here. Someone has to pay for multiplayer servers to run. And the core game itself remains playable here, it's only the MP elements that are going away.

Well, with a FOSS-Game there wouldn't be proprietary, unreleased server-side bits so that nobody is able to host their own server ;)

True. But you missed the part where I pointed out that in a FOSS game you wouldn't have the script, voice, graphics, animations, physics, shaders, textures or the other bits that make a person care about the game in the first place.

I'm all for it. It's just decades away, I suspect.
