Intel reveals brand new desktop processors along with their Core i9-10900K flagship

Quoting: NanobangJust curious about which cooler you bought.

Noctua NH-D15 (black). It is much, much better than the Wraith Prism. :) It almost feels overkill on temps, though the good thing is that while not quite silent, it is usually not noticeable.

Quoting: Nanobangand keeps things cool (though it does spin up and down regularly, I'll admit.)

I was able to slightly fix the stock cooler by making it ramp down slower, but it was still way too annoying for me to listen to it. I didn't mind the cooling performance, it was fine, but it was really noisy in my otherwise silent case.

New MSI motherboards have 2.5 gig LAN, which wasn't supported in older Kernels (<5.4).

Quoting: pete910What board you using ?

I'm using MSI MEG Unify as I got 70€ cashback from it. I also wasn't going to buy 12-core CPU, but I was lucky enough to get super limited offer for €349 and I just couldn't let it pass. Seconds later it was all sold out.

Same here, my last AMD CPU was Athlon 64, Since then I've owned only Intel CPUs until now. I'm really glad that I bought R9 3900X -- except that I had to buy beefy after market cooler as I was getting crazy from the stock cooler ramping up and down all the time, even when browsing here on Gaming On Linux. Oh, and I had to wait for Ubuntu 20.04 to get wired networking to work in my motherboard as I was too lazy and thought that I can as well wait for few more weeks.

It is good to have competition and Intel CPU being on par with AMD (depending on what you do) but I would never buy latest Intel CPUs as for me efficiency is just as important as performance is.

Looks like I have too many Paradox games; nothing to buy from there!

Quoting: LinasDon't let this get to you. Most people don't know or care much about Linux.

No I didn't. But that said, I did loose interest into the game after waiting for months for fixes that never came.

I did test out Black Mesa long time ago, but it was just too unstable to enjoy (crashed every few minutes). In frustration I gave it a negative review and moved on. Now I will need to take another look into this game as it did look promising. :)

Edit: The main reason why I've not touched this game anymore were the comments on my review -- people were telling that I'm an idiot as I use Linux and not Windows.

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

I've been playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance (Proton 5). I got it from a bundle and I totally ignored it as not being interesting until someone said that I should play it.

Yup, it has to be one of the best games I've ever played and it runs just fine in Linux as long I don't torture myself with ultra high quality on 4K (runs fine on tweaked high settings with HD texture DLC). I've had to kill the game twice as it got stuck, but I guess it would have had the same bug also in Windows...

Paradox to trial a subscription system to help with DLC overload for Europa Universalis IV

EU4 DLC used to be 66% off on sales, but now they are only 50% off (in EU at least), which is crazy for everyone who is just starting to play the game.

Humble has basically all the DLC (except for one which you don't need) for just $17, which is a must-take deal if you ever consider playing the game. To be honest I'd rather have them to bundle all the old DLC into heavily discounted price instead of having subscription service -- or the subscription price should be something like $15/year (or less) to be worth it.

I've only played about 500 hours of the game as I usually don't find any time to play, but this is my favorite game, too. I have all the DLC which is included in the bundle except for Res Publica, though I've not paid the full price for any of it, I just don't think it is worth for me as I just do not have the time. I also own almost every other Paradox game, though I've got those mainly from bundles.

What I'm trying to say, I'm happy Paradox to keep on supporting their games, but in the past they've made the games unplayable if you don't have most of the DLC. I agree that this should be changed, but IMHO it should be done by lowering the prices of older DLC by grouping them together with discount (Steam allows you to play only from the missing stuff) as every other game tends to do. I guess that subscription service would be cool, too, but it should be the value option by either offering all the games or having very low subscription fee or most people wouldn't even consider using it. This is especially true as I believe EU4 will shortly have the fate of CK2.
