Quoting: voldo83Have we heard anything from communities around open source games like Super TuxKart, Xonotic, Minetest, OpenTTD and so on... Will they be Steam Deck ready, or aiming to be?

Let's ask Liam to try every game that's on Flathub.

Quoting: EikeI would agree, but why is Outlast, which I played through natively, appearing on my "unsupported" list?

It says they tested on Proton 7, so maybe they need to re-test on native. Could also be something like the game not supporting the Deck's weird aspect ratio.

Quoting: jordicomaUnsupported? This has more sense than on spanish "No compatibles" (no compatible), as many of these games works on my linux, even some are native.

Maybe unsupported only means that you do not have any support from the publisher ?
I agree not compatible is terrible.
The problem is that in this list, you have both : not compatibles, and compatibles but unsupported.

Unsupported reasons generally the following:

1. "Valve is still working on adding support for this game on Steam Deck" - When you see this it usually refers to Proton features being worked on. In most cases this refers to mfplat support. There's a good chance these will work eventually.

2. "This game's anti-cheat is not configured to support Steam Deck" - Not Valve's problem, fire ze missiles at the dev/publisher.

3. "This game is unsupported on Steam Deck due to use of an unsupported anti-cheat" - Don't expect these to work any time soon.

4. "Steam Deck does not support VR games" - I mean, you can in theory get VR working on the deck, but the experience will be terrible.

5. Games that fail to start at all. Tried to find an actual example of this, but gave up.

Feral Interactive have no plans to update their Linux ports for Steam Deck

Quoting: GuestKind of not sure what people are expecting Feral to update? The whole point of the Steam Deck is that it doesn't need games to be built specifically for it. Nobody is expecting all their Windows titles to be updated to target this one particular hardware device, so not sure why Feral is being singled out here.

Many Windows-only games are being updated for Steam Deck. Controller support, correct controller glyphs, readable text, support for the quick suspend mode, on-screen keyboard support.

That said, I don't think Feral is really making any money off Linux any more. I'm not even sure it's worth running ported games any more if they're just going to drop support anyway.

1 week from release, Steam Deck hits well over 640 Playable games

And the selection still seems super random. But then I keep seeing people excited to play things on Deck that I have never even heard of. So maybe not so random.

All games with mfplat tags in github seem to have been temporarily chucked in unsupported. I suspect they will soon retest all of those in one go.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleWhat specifically is wrong with its controller support?

There not being any.
it claims controllers can be enabled via Big Picture, which doesn't work
What are you talking about? I use a controller on No Mans Sky (via Proton) without issue.

Good for you. Mine doesn't and never has. Xbox 360 and DualSense, wired and wireless, Steam controller mode off and on, Big picture and standard, over multiple distros.
I try again with every major update, including this one

Make sure steam overlay is enabled and then try with steam input disabled and enabled. Also try the controller preferences in the overlay with steam input enabled and set to default config.

Quoting: undeadbydawnI'm almost impressed they've managed to get this working just fine on SteamDeck but STILL haven't managed controller support.
It's the one and only reason I never play this game.

What specifically is wrong with its controller support?

Total War: WARHAMMER III to release for Linux 'in Early Spring'

Quoting: rustybroomhandleDoes Feral get any money if people buy it now already?
Well, it would be dumb to have them advertised all over it, if people pre-ordered and they didn't get paid.

Well yes it would be dumb, but one can't expect a complex chain of communication between porting house, developer, publisher, marketing etc. to always arrive at a sensible outcome.

Quoting: CatKillerI expect that we'll get this kind of muddled language from developers for a while, where they're contemplating the Deck as a console and not thinking about Linux at all.
Because that's how Valve is marketing it. The Deck is not being presented as a Linux device but as a Steam device. You won't find the word "Linux" in any of their marketing.

To the consumer, yes. The OS should be irrelevant to the user experience.

The developer communication is very clear about it being Linux though.
