Ion Fury gets a big 2.0 patch ahead of the Aftershock expansion in 2022

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Because I ve been gaming since the late 80s monster closet games do nothing for me same problem I had with painkiller series
I would still draw a line between most Build Engine games and something like Serious Sam or Painkiller which just focus on throwing wave after wave of enemies after you in mostly simplistic arenas. Not that it makes them any more to your taste, which is fine, but lavish level design has always been a big part of the Build Engine's appeal.

Quoting: peta77If they'd give it modern graphics, I'd grab it. But this pixelated stuff is not something I like.
You can have your own taste, but these graphics are hardly "pixelated". They are highly detailed sprites rather than models but that is nowhere near the same thing. I would agree that a lot of the games 3D Realms has been showing at Realms Deep do go overboard in their attempts to look retro but Ion Fury is not actually one of them.

As for me, well, I guess this gives me even more of an excuse to procrastinate on actually playing the game until the patch is released.

Probably better off playing Blood with Raze or NBlood or BloodGDX than Fresh Supply as well.

Not that it affects me, but has it even been confirmed that the Steam version will maintain Linux support? It seems to be in the gift of the publisher, and the Steam listing only has Windows system requirements.

I would have been more than happy just to pay for the game on itch.io instead, but they owe me nothing so I can not complain. Credit for maintaining the free version.

I am glad they got that resolved though.

That may be true, but it's not something they just fixed... It's been listed as "Linux compatible" for a long time now (several years).
Not according to the Internet Archive:

Are you confusing it with Crystal Caves Classic which had a Linux DOSBox wrapper?

More to the point, will Linux now get a release for Crystal Caves HD?
It already has! Been playing it on my laptop with ubuntu.

https://www.gog.com/game/crystal_caves_hd (not advertised as such but comes with the Linux installer as an extra)
Um, it quite literally says that Linux-based operating systems are supported...
"Works on: Windows (7, 8, 10), Linux (Ubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu 18.04)"

By the time I get around to actually playing any of these retro inspired shooters the games will already have become retro themselves.

Assuming they go DRM free I am still going to buy them of course. Now, back to winning the Quake II mission packs.

Whatever is causing the freezes, it does seem to happen more when water is present. The Water Treatment Plant map in The Reckoning is proving to be a little difficult to get through.

I could try beating the map using the Software renderer I suppose.

Quoting: LightkeyGot both boxes sitting behind me. Was lucky to get them through TuxGames' reseller offers.
Both of the Quake boxes I am using are actually from my twin brother's collection, and he spent a good chunk of his summer overtime pay buying them off eBay.

Some lucky devil managed to get both for around $30 from a Goodwill Auction in 2016 apparently:

Quoting: GuestAlmost all lockups back in the day were indeed a result of GPU drivers. Not much that can be done about it either. Took a long time before I stopped seeing it too.
Yeah, I remember all that. One positive to come out of the Steam Deck is that by Valve choosing to go all AMD it does mean they recognize all the hard work that went into making the free graphics stack as robust as it is now.

I am well into playing the second Unit of the The Reckoning and have only had the one freeze so far.
