Steam Next Fest: June 2022 is live

Only game that I played today was Selaco. It's bit like simplified version of System Shock (Selaco doesn't have the RPG elements). In addition of running around and shooting enemies, there's plenty of things to interact with. Including things like combination locks that have codes mentioned in log entries. Don't let the retro graphics stop you from trying the demo.

There are some issues though, but hopefully they're fixed for the final game. The player icon is hard to spot in the map as things are mostly white lines, including the player icon.

Also doors that need keycards don't always show up. Maps are relatively small, so that's not a blocker at all. You might even find some useful items and secrets while hunting for the door.

Quoting: LinasI was wondering if it makes sense to buy all those weapon / costume bundles? Do they make any difference in the single player campaign?

I haven't been buying them myself, but based on the comments I have read, it depends on the DLC. Some of them are reskins and few of them contain weapons that are somewhat overpowered (at least Retrowave does). So I guess in that sense they make a difference. Might be better for fooling around after the campaign is finished.

If you want to save some money, there are some weapons that you can get via bounties. Also if you want make game easier, events will usually give you gold tier weapons.

Quoting: MalLook for victor vran on YouTube and see if that is something you might Like.

Thanks, that looks like it'll fit the bill perfectly

Victor Vran is great. Story and setting are above most ARPG:s as setting is not the most generic fantasy one. Also dialogue is witty enough to keep things entertaining.

If you're still hungry for more after it, there's Torchlight II. It should be playable on Steam Deck and there's no complaints about gamepad as such. Complaints were about manually having to bring up on screen keyboard and not having Steam Deck specific button hints.

It might feel bit generic after Victor Vran, but should still be fine specimen of the ARPG genre. There's also Torchlight III, but based on the reviews it's just Torchlight lite.

The Humble Kalypso Hits Bundle looks like a good deal

I have played Dungeons 2, Railway Empire, Tropico 5 and Tropico 6. All pretty good games. Probably rest of them are not bad either (OK, reviewers haven't liked Spacebase Startopia).

Railway Empire was sadly broken for me last time I tried it though.

Tactical roguelike with deck-management 'Oaken' added a Linux build

Demo already worked nicely. Oaken seemed to have solid gameplay, but fell just little bit of short of wishlist territory for me. Steam reviews are quite positive though.

If you're on the fence there's demo. Too bad the native demo doesn't seem to be available, but most likely it will work with Proton just fine.

Quoting: xaviThe classification of Roguelikes and Roguelites could take days, but for me the most important way to distinguish them is if the previous plays have significant help on the new play. For example Rogue Legacy is an example where you win because you have more "powers" from previous plays. And in Roguelikes this adventage is minimum (in Nethack you may find bones of the previous plays, but you need to identify objects and they are cursed).

According to that:

As Roguelikes what I liked the most are Nethack, Brogue, FTL, Noita.

As Roguelites: Enter the Gungeon, Rogue Legacy, Sproggiwood.

I accidentally classified Enter the Gungeon correctly. I forgot about the permanent upgrades.

There was actually bit more in depth article from few days ago, the video confuses the issue bit: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/3175610095143798950

The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe is out now

Quoting: GroganThey still owe me for the first one. Insultingly stupid and disrespectful of my time. I played through a few different scenarios in hopes that there was going to be more to it, but none of them were interesting. I did like the narrator (that's what attracted me to it in the first place), but that got old, fast amidst the annoyance of the game. Harsh, but that's how I feel about that game.

That does sound like Stanley Parable. The original doesn't have much to offer if you're not curious about what happens if you would have chosen differently.
Spoiler, click me
I wonder if many have actually obeyed the narrator...

If you didn't like the first one, I doubt you will like the Ultra Deluxe either. The new content at times references the old game, which would make you bit confused. Ultra Deluxe also doesn't reveal everything right away so some patience is needed.

At least one reviewer was disappointed by the lack of new content, which might have been just because Ultra Deluxe content is bit hidden and you can miss lot of it if you give up early.

Here's few that I have played and cost less than 10€

Slay the Spire
Slay the Spire is the inspiration for some of the later card games, I have seen at least one game copying things almost directly from it. Requires some dedication for completing it. That says bit about how well received the game has been.

Enter the Gungeon
Roguelite version of bullet hell game. Bit too hard for me, but quite many people enjoy it.

FTL: Faster Than Light
Another bit influential game. In short it's spaceship simulation take on the roguelite genre. Or could say roguelike as it has permadeath. Never got very far though, but plenty of people like it.

Hollow Knight
One of the better metroidvanias. Personally I haven't finished it as boss fights are quite hard. Still quite many people like it.

Valheim is absolutely smashing it with 10 million copies sold

Quoting: CanadianBlueBeer...Never did the domesticate Lox before. (or pigs. still haven't done wolves yet)...

Pigs and Lox are fairly easy but it's time consuming. Wolves were the hardest - I trapped a some in a pit I'd dug but something kept killing them. Tamed them eventually and then had to lead them right across the island to my base. I keep two inside and a load at the gates as "guard dogs".

Drakes at least can shoot at open pit. Also night wolves will disappear easily in the morning, you need to start taming process already at night.

As for being worth it, pigs do provide good meat source at the beginning. Getting one or two stars improve the meat to leather scraps ratio. In order get pigs multiply though, farming helps. Carrots will lose their usefulness first, so they can be fed to pigs.

Wolves also provide meat, which is not useful though before you get silver. Before that you can take few with you to keep annoyances away. I haven't yet transported them between islands, but it's doable if know how to prepare and avoid enemies at all costs (wolves will not be less aggressive in a boat...).

I have domesticated Lox also, but back then they were useful only tearing down trees and squashing graydwarves.

Quoting: subWasn't that planned to be a free upgrade for those already owning it?

I don't know about that but the old game is using Source while the new is made in Unity. So it probably involved quite a lot of work.

It's instead 33% discount for first two weeks if you own the original.
