Quoting: garpuWhat's MinGW used for now when building it?

Yeah new dependency, mingw for PE files shows configure file at build

^_^

Oh, I bet it's for the change in libwine.dll. That would make sense--you just cross-compile them now. Although why would one use WINE dlls on Windows? Wouldn't you use windows dlls on windows?
My guess is it could be used for debugging.

Is this Yakuza 0 or Yakuza Kiwami?

I know Yakuza 0 works via SteamPlay / DXVK, but Kiwami got released yesterday and I'm curious if it works as well (there are no reports on ProtonDB yet).

Some information on why Wine is not going to be using DXVK

Quoting: orochi_kyoRead the last sentence and stop being so PHillip Fanboys.

"It is my understanding that since then both Jeremy White and CodeWeavers' partners at Valve have tried reaching out to Philip on the subject, but evidently with little success."

Ive heard the most ridiculous things like, oh "sometimes I miss Whatsapp messages" when there is a BIG RED number telling you have unread messages on Whatsapp Logo on your phone. So if you telling me Phillip is missing Codeweavers and Valve mails and messages... OK.

The good thing is life goes on and they are working on something else, a little competition sometimes does good.
It is simply not true that Philip is not in contact with Valve - he is in constant contact with Plagman.

Anyhow, he also uses Discord the most, so it's the best way to contact him.

Insurgency: Sandstorm should still release for Linux this year

Quoting: Doc AngeloThe game seems to be quite good, but this is nothing to be happy about as a Linux gamer, especially if you bought it because of the statements that were made before. I'm not sure why this is portrayed as something positive. It's the typical "not yet, but maybe later" game. Especially if the entity who is doing it "hopes" it will come, it's a pretty negative sign. What are they hoping for? Does that mean they are not in control of it? Maybe just unfortunate wording? Or not?

"It's coming" isn't what I see in their words.
I'd agree if it were some other devs, and it was their first Linux game, but NWI released both Insurgency and Day of Infamy for Linux, so I wouldn't read it same as you did.

To me it reads more like - we're hoping we'll be able to release it this year (as in opposed to the next year).

It's just that NWI has a lot of thing on the roadmap for this game, and they're not sure if they'll manage to release it this year, but they're hoping they will.

Paladins, the team-based shooter seems to work well with Steam Play
21 January 2019 at 6:21 pm UTC

Quoting: PatolaSome people are saying that if you get the EAC DLLs of Paladins and use it in other EAC games (overwriting their version), the game starts working under Linux. Maybe it works for the Darwin Project?
Honestly, I'd be real wary of trying this - it's like asking for a ban (I mean, you're replacing the anticheat with a different version after all).

Valve put out another Steam Beta Client with minor Steam Play changes

I like that you can now enable SteamPlay on a game by game basis, and you don't have to enable it for all titles.

Now I get a nice separation of my Linux stuff (native + SteamPlay) from my whole library. With SteamPlay turned on for all titles, it marks the whole library as Steam OS + Linux titles, and I didn't like that.

Steam Play recently hit 500 Windows games rated as Platinum on ProtonDB

Which may be more interesting and valuable to some, since it will include a lot of AAA titles.

The moment Fallout 4 and GTA 5 is fully running without tampering, I'm all over'em babies. :)
GTA V already is working great ootb with SteamPlay, just install the Nvidia 415.25 drivers.

The only issue it has, is that the GTA Online tutorial can't be completed. You can however skip the tutorial and play GTA Online right away.

Are you using Debian stable? Maybe some of your libs are outdated or sth.

That's good to know, thanks. Yeah, I am using Debian stable but with Kernel 4.20, Mesa 18.3.1 and Proton 3.16-6.

Which Proton version are you using?
3.16-6 - I always use the latest available version.

Maybe it's an issue with an old gnutls version?

Quoting: KohriasYakuza0 doesnt start due to "The server is not reachable, check your internet connection and click "Retry"."

I wonder if they are having server issues due to the humble bundle or it being a proton/wine problem.

Grab a glass, the first release candidate for Wine 4.0 is now available

Quoting: KimyrielleIt's really amazing how WINE has progressed from "that nerd tool that can make ancient games run on Linux, with a lot of tinkering and a healthy portion of luck" to "will run pretty much anything in Linux, no matter what" in about just one year.

I followed WINE for a long, long time, and I have never considered it an alternative to dual-booting, until about that one year ago when the project seemed to have gone to warp speed all out of a sudden.
Not that I'm trying to undermine Wine 's progress, but it's DXVK that has been the major wine-gaming breakthrough, allowing us to play a lot of the modern titles (and at a lot better performance than wined3d).

I just hope VKD3D makes enough progress to run Cyberpunk 2077 when it releases (knowing CD Projekt, the game is probably going to be DX12 only).

I'm now playing The Witcher 3 via SteamPlay, and Cyberpunk 2077 is the game I'm most eagerly awaiting to play (being a huge fan of CD Project 's games, and the whole cyberpunk genre).
