PAYDAY 2 looks like it's getting closer to a SteamOS & Linux version
18 March 2016 at 10:28 pm UTC

Nice to see that they actually intend to follow through on releasing it for Linux. I was worried that they had canceled it.
It's a great game to have on Linux and since it's an internal port we will probably be able to play with Windows-users as well.

As for the microtransactions with skins and safes; you can ignore them completely if you want to, even turn off visibility of skins in settings. They still support the game after 2½ years, money to pay for that has to come from somewhere and that somewhere is DLC and microtransactions, take it or leave it.

GOL Asks: What have you been playing recently?
16 March 2016 at 1:36 pm UTC

Games i have played recently: Stories of Bethem: Full Moon Edition, The Bug Butcher, Ultratron, Retro City Rampage DX, 9 Clues 2: The Ward.

All good games except 9 Clues 2 which was pretty bad. There are so many new good games for Linux that it's becoming harder to choose what to buy and play. Spoiled for choice, but that's a good thing!

Was a bit exited for 4 player co-op but only local co-op is supported.

Let's hope they port a couple of Shantae-games next.

Origin PC Is No Longer Doing A SteamOS Steam Machine

Playing it safe and sticking to Windows or taking a chance on a new OS for a chance to be a big player in a new market? Origin PC is playing it safe.

My guess is that Alienware looks at the market and sees a opportunity. People that want a gaming PC but do not want to admin and update a Windows PC. That is potentially a new market with completely new customers who would otherwise not have bought a gaming PC. I think that is where the market is for SteamOS, not trying to convince "PC Gamers" to ditch their beloved Windows but instead bringing new people into PC Gaming with a simple console-like experience where you can play quite a few games that are not available on traditional consoles.

I really hope it pays of for Alienware.

Grow Home From Ubisoft Looks Like It Will Come To Linux

Grow Home is made with Unity so probably easier for Ubisoft to port than their other games. Grow Home is also one of few Ubisoft games on Steam that does not require uPlay which makes it even easier.

Would love for Ubisoft to port their UbiArt-engine to Linux so we could get Rayman Origins / Legends and Child of Light but i'm not sure how uPlay-functionality would work on SteamOS...

Sunday Section: What Was Your Biggest Linux Gaming Letdown So Far This Year?
2 November 2015 at 8:38 am UTC

I would say that no cross-platform multiplayer in Company of Heroes 2 (and about 2 years behind on DLC) and the delay of Payday 2 has been the biggest letdowns for me. I play both those games with friends that are on Windows and i had hoped that i finally could stop booting up Windows to play with them, but it was not to be! Somehow i got the impression that Relic would do the ports and expected a version on par with the Windows one but instead i got the base game with a berlin wall separating the platforms.

But on the other hand, i have played many great games on Linux this year!

Payday 2 SteamOS Version Delayed Until Next Year
21 October 2015 at 12:09 pm UTC

Hopefully they deliver on the Q1 2016 release. Payday 2 is one of my favourite games of all time and i've put some 690 hours into the Windows-version playing with my friends. (Yeah i know, Windows, but Payday 2 does not run well in Wine and neither does Company of Heroes 2 and i do enjoy playing co-op games with friends.)

My guess is that they are delaying the SteamOS-version because they have to rewrite the multiplayer lobby system for the Xbox One-version. The lobby-system that is working fine on Windows and PS4 does not work on Xbox One for some reason and owners of the Xbox One-version are very displeased so i guess that is high priority. Hopefully they make multiplayer cross platform, Windows / Linux, and do the port themselves, otherwise we might get the same bad deal those who bought on Console got with no updates for long periods of time.

The reactions to the drills / safes / weapon skins have been a bit... extreme. The stat boosts some of the skins give are somwhere between 2% - 12%... Hardly noticeable, besides, it's a Co-Op game, you fight against bots. You are not gonna instantly win heists on Death Wish just because you have a skin that give you 4% more accuracy and 8% more stability. It's Pay2Bling.
