wohoo, flatpak finally - after all, who would want to install something like origin without a sandbox :D

Amazon games integration is a nice plus for sure, too!

Valve dev understandably not happy about glibc breaking Easy Anti-Cheat on Linux

I tend to agree with the criticism about unstable APIs for many cases - but in this case, i really blame Epic for using a function deprecated for almost two decades in a recent piece of software.

Easy Anti-Cheat not working on Linux? Seems a glibc update broke it

Quoting: setzer22Honestly, this obsession with dynamically linking everything and updating as soon as possible is a huge house of cards waiting to fall under its own weight.

Sounds like you should take a look at NixOS ^^

to be more precise: deprecated for 16 (!) years.

System76 gives the Oryx Pro laptop a powerful refresh

Quoting: Liam DaweThey don't?

Not yet at least ;)
Putting the driver into a firmwareblob and opensouring a barebones kernelspace driver that basically only loads that blob while still relying on pure proprietary userspace will hopefully yield a better experience when running the bleeding edge, but still is even less FOSS than AMD and Intel with their large binary firmware packages.

Open Source Friendly and Nvidia Graphics don't really fit together...
Alder Lake sure is a nice CPU, but nothing should stop system76 from combining them with mobile radeon, should it?
I mean, for the Lambda Tensorbook and it's ML focus, Nvidia is the better choice - but for a gaming centric Linux laptop?!

I'm really tempted i must say. But after what Annapurna did with Outer Wilds, i'm having a hard time supporting them tbh...

The other interesting question when deciding if it's acceptable to deviate from "no tux, no bucks": Is it Deck Verified due to support by the Dev or is it just testing by Valve?

much more annoying than the scaling discussion is that the 16" executive is always bundled with a dGPU...Besides that (and the battery that is smaller, probably as a result of the dGPU i would assume?) it really looks like a nice piece of kit.

A shame they didn't call that service provider out so other devs can stay clear of such a company...

Wine manager Bottles default runner now based on Valve's Wine fork and Proton

I first used bottles two days ago because i needed a way to use that Origin abomination properly contained (due to Mass Effect being free on prime gaming, that was an offer i couldn't resist ^^) and this seems to be by far the easiest route to sandbox wine applications.
And i must say i was pleasantly surprised by the experience. Given, you don't have as much (easily accessible) granular control as in, say Lutris, but admittedly that's not needed nearly as often as it was a few years back anyway.
