DRG is agreat game, picked it up in the last sale.
Unfortunately, right after that it seems they released an update that made it crash randomly for some linux users - including me :(
It's really annoying and doesn't seem to follow any pattern. Sometimes it runs perfectly for hours on end, sometimes it crashes after 5min over and over again...

And THAT is exactly why i won't buy a game for more than a few bucks without commitment from the dev for either native or at least official proton support. The 10 bucks for this game was borderline, but i did it because it had platinum for such a long time - well, so much for that...

Besides that, it really is one of the best MP-Games i've ever played. And the community is pretty reasonable, even playing with random groups is fun most of the time!

But the Humble Choice is disappointing again - didn't they justify reducing the number of games with increasing the quality? DRG is great and some of the games look interesting, but DRG is already over 2 years old and none of the other games is any highlight for me...seems i made the right choice not to renew my classic subscription after they made the trove windows-exclusive...

From memory without doing a direct comparison it looks like the terrain looks better than X-Plane. If the physics are good/realistic, it might be a nice middleground between arcadey but gorgeous MSFS and great realism but dated graphics X-Plane?

A shame. I would really love to support GoG for their DRM-Free approach and because i like underdogs. But after the initial phase where they got my trust in advance, i just can't justify it seeing how they essentially ignore Linux completely...

Well, silently changing the specs for some is bound to annoy people. If Valve would have been upfront about it, done a blogpost explaining it and providing their benchmarks, i guess nobody really would complain.
But changing it an hoping noone will notice is bound to be perceived as deceptive and not taking the customer serious...

You argue that having shortcuts in the game devalues your achievements. That is only true though if you somehow are compulsively forced to go the easy route.
Just because this options exist doesn't mean you have to or even SHOULD take them if you don't have some kind of impairment. So nothing is taken away from you.

Other people's inadequacies should never serve as an excuse for your own.

Other people's "admiration" (read: bragging rights) should also not be you sole motivation to invest time into getting better. If achievements are the only thing that motivates you to dig into a difficult game, you really should work on your self-sufficiency.
Just because cheat codes existed as long as i can remember (and i had access to them in the magazines back then), i never felt the need to take that shortcut if i was determined to beat the game either...

I think it's not fair to limit the validity of the use of accessibility options to "actual" disabilities. There are people out there that just don't have the reaction time or motor skills to master such a gamne - and there is nothing they can do about it, no matter how hard they train. Why exclude those people just because you tend to take shortcuts, just because they exist?

I must admit this does have some merit, especially for older games. I've had several instances where the native version wouldn't work (at all or properly, mainly controller-issues) but running it with proton worked like a charm.
Don't get me wrong, i'm all for proper native versions! But compared to abandoned and/or poorly done native versions, proton is the better option.
So depending on the rules on how/when proton is prefered on the Deck (personally have never noticed a native game being run by default on proton?), it might actually be the "safer" option ^^
