Wine 7.1 is out with Vulkan 1.3 support

Quoting: slaapliedjeAlso, Ambermoon is on my list of games to beat.
It's my favorite Amiga exclusive RPG, so can only recommend doing that :-). Not sure how it'll hold up, though. Those early 3D dungeons will likely feel dated by today's standards. Though I guess the 2D parts and gameplay ought to be just fine.

Quoting: slaapliedjeWere you aware there is an effort to recreate it with open source for modern systems?
Didn't know that. Are you are referring to Ambermoon.net? Looks like it is already pretty much complete.

Given those three alternatives, I'm still quite fond of the regular old Windows 2000 era look (the middle one). Good contrast, easy to see what's a button/tab/etc. and what's just text. Luckily, with my usage of Wine exclusively for gaming I don't really have to deal with Windows user interfaces.

At work, where I can't avoid them I always have to jump through hoops to get something that's halfway palatable.

Steam Deck launches February 25, weekly purchase invites planned

Looking forward to the first reviews and hands-on experiences by actual players. Then they only need to make it available in my country of residence :-). Wonder what I'll get sooner ... a new affordable graphics card or the Deck. Right now my bets are on latter.

Interesting to see Circuit Superstars in that list. I've got my eyes on that, but ProtonDB shows mixed results, so I did not dare buy it so far. Guess I can reconsider during the next sale :-).

Wine 7.0 is officially out now bringing better compatibility

QuoteNew WoW64 architecture. The team say once the remaining modules are converted to PE, "this will make it possible to run 32-bit applications without installing 32-bit Unix libraries".
That's neat :-). With my old Canon all in one long gone, Wine must be one of the last packages that requires i386 arch to be present. Sure, there's no harm in having the stuff installed, and disk space isn't exactly an issue either, but I'd still be happy to be rid of legacy stuff at some point.

All in all, it's not so much the official release I'm happy to see, but seeing it's finally there, new shiny things will come to wine-devel soon, so yay! \o/

That must be the second big update out after I thought the game to be abandoned. Sometimes I cannot really fathom how those indie devs manage to survive. Unless they do it besides their day job (which would also account for the long time between updates).

GNOME Shell 42 to have better mouse input that will help gaming

So I'm curious: is this only a GNOME + Wayland issue or is this a general GNOME issue that will be addressed for Wayland only (and not for X11)?

The way the article is written, I'm not sure which of the two it is.

GOG to go through some reorganization after suffering losses

Quoting: 14$2M is about 10 developers for one year when you think about industry salaries, benefits, equipment, training, etc.
But surely not in Poland?

Quoting: 14Proton games are often click-to-play, whereas the GOG version requires me to fiddle with minigalaxy + Lutris so I can install the game easily and then actually run it
I finally gave in and run Galaxy under Wine. Installing and playing supported Windows games is just two clicks.

Though I wish I would not have to go through a launcher to play a game. So in a way I am glad they did not bring that atrocity to Linux. OTOH, with games getting larger and larger, downloading the whole thing for every update starts getting tiresome.

Anyway, reading all the comments so far, seems there's no insight as to what this will actually mean for the future of GOG. Guess time will tell.

GOG to go through some reorganization after suffering losses

I find it rather difficult to rack up such a loss from selling digital goods. The apparent need to "focus more on its core business activity" seems to indicate that a lot of effort went into things that are peripheral to the selling of same. This begs the questions what those other activities were, seeing that GOG is already pretty bare-bones as is.

Could this pertain to GOG Galaxy and the associated backend functionality for achievements, cloud-saves and such? Though even that doesn't look like something you could sink $2m and likely more, assuming the actual selling of games is profitable.

Personally, I hope that doesn't mean they'll end up including fewer games in their catalogue. I hardly buy anything outside GOG these days, and it's always a shame if a title I absolutely want to try does not make it to GOG, or only with much delay.
