Hello Games appear to be keeping an eye on Steam Play with No Man's Sky, temp fix needed for NVIDIA

I've had this running fine on my Nvidia/Ubuntu based laptop without any tweaks (install>press play>it works). I only bought it a couple of days ago, but I've not had any issues in ~7 hours of playing. I'm getting a constant >30fps, which is all I'd really expect from my laptop - though is 30fps what people count as bad these days?
In case relevant:
Ubuntu 18.04.3
i5-4210H
16GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 960M
Nvidia Driver 430.40

Nelly Cootalot: Spoonbeaks Ahoy! HD confirmed for release this month

You're right - my mistake. I just had a look and I have it my downloads as an exe (I'm guessing from their website), so I must have run it through Wine/Playonlinux or something like that. I played it after playing the Fowl Fleet, so perhaps it felt a bit clunky in comparison, therefore I remembered it as "probably flash or something". Anyway, I'm still going to get the HD remake :)

I'm looking forward to this one - though I might wait for a few reviews before I work out if it's a "buy immediately", "buy later", "buy on sale" or an "ignore unless it's literally £0.50p". The previous Story Packs have been good on the whole, and I think they've all been less than £10 new, which is about the same as 2-3 pints of beer at the pub.
I have mixed feelings about Paradox's DLC schemes. Some of them have felt a little thinner than I'd like, or have had one really nice feature that's "DLC locked" amongst a bunch of stuff you don't really care about... but on the whole I'm pretty happy with most of it. I've had years of fun from their games, and a new DLC generally makes a new playthrough and a new story - and at an age where getting a few hours to myself is often a luxury, my #1 and #2 most played on Steam are both Paradox games (CK2 and Stellaris).

That's a definite buy for me. I've already played the older flash/website version, but I really liked Nelly Cootalot Fowl Fleet (perhaps a bit short, but I found it genuinely hilarious), so I'll happily get a fancy version of the first one to play again, especially if it reminds the developers they should perhaps do another game :)

Not sure if there's been a small update since or there's a difference between GOG/Steam/Paradox Launcher, but I've had it running fine for an hour, on Nvidia, on Ubuntu 18.04. It's the version from Steam (though bought from Paradox and activated on Steam).
It loaded exactly as expected i.e. launcher launched and game ran fine.
Propriety Nvidia 418.56 (The Vulkan one), from a Geforce 960M. Constant 30fps (which is about what I expect off this laptop/graphics card). I left all the settings on default, so it's a straight "load it and run it" with no tweaks etc.
I've been playing through the tutorial for about an hour so far, all seems to be running perfectly :)
Hope it's because of an update and it works for you guys too, rather than me just being lucky!

On the whole, I'd say yes. Some of the English translation was a little weak in the earlier versions, but I think it's mostly been sorted out - but there's also some really richly developed characters and side quests - I found it successfully managed to be worrying, shocking, funny, kind etc at different points, as you'd hope from a well written narrative. It's not perfect by any means - some of the conversation seemed a little flat in places, but I think on average it was good enough.
As said, I'd played through earlier versions, so I'm not sure how the plot rounds off at the end (I'm waiting for the release version for a new full playthrough) - but what I'd gone through so far felt well written and interesting on the whole. You can probably watch through a 1hr "let's play" video without spoiling too much plotwise, but should give you enough of a sense of the writing etc.
The world itself is well written, if that makes sense - the scenario is quite different from Fallout/Wasteland, but it's one that works, and I think has a well-rounded atmosphere and, compared to Fallout, a sort of more believable reality to it.

Quoting: Guestas it obviously will appeal to ppl who enjoyed Fallout in the late 90s, does it include interesting and well written narrative ?

I've played about 35 hours of it, I think from two early playthroughs - so I guess other than the endgame/plot end I've played through most of it, and thoroughly enjoyed it - essentially, it's very much in the style of Fallout 1/2, Wasteland 2 sort of thing - so if you enjoyed any of those, I'd recommend it. There's a few playthrough videos on Youtube if you want a better sense of it - but yeah, I've ended up with a few too many unfinished games "with potential", but I think, unless they screw up the ending, this one is better than that :)

For a silly guess, I was surprisingly close with Dirt Rally 2.0 rather than dirt 4 - though for the wrong reasons, I gather. Anyone know how "Flushing Point" actually translates to Dirt 4? I'm interested to know how their cryptic mind works.

Quoting: Fakeman_PretendnameOkay, so you... flush away a sort of "Dirt", which is sometimes called a "number 2"... and when using decimal fractions we say "two point one" for 2.1 and so on... so we're looking at a sort of Dirt 2 point...
Dirt Rally 2.0
and um, "where are we going", because um, Rallying is based on navigating from point to point on a track which you don't know beforehand... and it has a man with a spear on a flying horse because... um. I don't know.

I'm looking forward to this, and will probably get it as soon as it's released. It's the expanded career mode that interests me most. I know some people don't like Dirt 4 so much, or find the handling a step down from Dirt Rally, but I've really had so many hours of fun out of Dirt Rally, that even if it's a little lacking in some areas, it'll certainly be on my playlist. I think pretty much anything Feral releases which can be controlled by a wheel and pedals is a buy for me.

I'd normally wait for their DLC to go on sale, but I might be tempted to buy this immediately. I lived in Estonia for a while, about 10 years ago, and I'm nostalgic. I'd love to just have an afternoon driving through the scenery (but without the mosquitoes and ticks chasing after my foreign English blood). I doubt it'll have some of the smaller places I stayed at, but I'd be happy to at least see Tallinn and Tartu again :)
