Quoting: pbI can wait and buy when all episodes are out, but I wonder what keeps Feral delayed with BtS, hopefully some other, yet unannounced Linux ports. ;-)

NVIDIA have officially announced the GeForce RTX 2000 series of GPUs, launching September

While generally I agree with this, there is theoretically a degradation process in the silicon of the chips as they are used and it gets exponentially faster as the voltage and clocks are increased. Generally not a problem though becouse the parts will be obsolete long before they have degraded anyway. A CPU running at default speed might last 30 years of heavy use, while it might only last 10 years if overclocked, but that still plenty of time. Usually the motherboard will have given up long before something like a CPU anyway.
With that said, I did experience an overclocking accident with an MSI GTX970 not too long ago. My brother had an Ubuntu machine with two of those cards mining crypto. Mining is not usually a problem but it can be if recklessness is involved. So one of the cards suddenly stopped working and there was a smell of burned electronics he said. I asked him to send me a picture of the PCB and I discovered a couple of burned mosFET's in the VRM-section of the card. I asked if the fans were working properly and if he overclocked it. Apparently he had been messing around with nvidia-smi and accidentally made the card overclock way to much which has led to the VRM's overheating and burning out.
So yea, generally parts will try to protect themselves but it doesn't always work as intended.

Quoting: Doc AngeloMany seem to be afraid of getting used cards that got overclocked. Personally, I think computer parts have no moving parts (fans excluded), so this rule doesn't really apply to them. They either work or not. Computer parts generally stall themselves if they get too hot. Is it known that GPUs die earlier if they are overclocked? I never heard about that. Are there sources?

Wow, theres a lot of comments here. I usually read them all but I'll have to skip this time.
Anyway, with the price inflation that has been going on every generation, and games not really getting much more demanding outside of really niche cases, the only sane thing to do these days is to stay one or two generations behind.

Wasn't immediatly sold on this, but this Eurogamer article by Aoife Wilson including interview with Michel Koch pretty much sold me. Roadtrip and coming of age stories is kind of a favorite of mine, and I'm glad they are starting to come to video games as well and not just cinema, TV and literature.
Feral obviously <3 Life is Strange so a port is pretty much expected at this point. No pressure :)

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoHow Chris, from The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is related with this game?
Spoiler, click me
Sean and Daniel seems to be the kids living in the house next to Chris, and we get to see Daniel's telekinesis power at the end of Captain Spirit. That's all I know for now. Surely we will learn more as we get to play the game.

Think I figured out why this game has seen such a long delay.
So I've been messing around a bit with it using Wine.
Back in the days when the final episode of the game was released, it would start in Wine but the characters where invisible due to lack of "stream output support". This has since been implemented in Wine's DX11 -> OpenGL layer which has led to a platinum rating over at WineHQ Application DB.
Today, I tried it using Wine + DXVK, and it turns out DXVK still doesn't support stream output and the issue is apparently not easy to solve using Vulkan, at least not in a straight forward and performant manner. The issue has been brought up with the Khronos Working Group and hopefully they will come up with a future revision of Vulkan that enables developers to implement this feature in their Vulkan wrappers.
Surely Feral will also want to use Vulkan for their port and thus they are probably running into the same issue as DXVK which means they also have to wait for Khronos to update Vulkan before they can continue their development of the game.

Tanks DLC was supposed to be the last major official DLC though and we are pretty much at the end of Arma 3's active development life cycle which means updates are going to be less frequent. Knowing Bohemia though, I suspect they will still surprise us with one or two spontaneus DLC releases coming out of nowhere, just like they did with Arma 2 many years after development of that slowed down. I know they have been reaching out to third party studios to make further DLC for Arma 3 and I guess we will see where that goes.

Quoting: GuestI really feel them going with eON was a poor choice simply because ARMA III is a moving target and continually gets updates. Due to the fact, VP has to wait for a released product to start porting makes the entire process less than ideal. I'm all for eON for ports of games that are out fully and only get bug fixes but I don't think it's a good model for a title like this that is continually updated month after month.

I'm thinking it's probably Unity bugs, but could also be Vulkan I guess.

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI hope that the delay of LIS: Before the storm is due to the addition of a VULKAN support.
