Gained 3% better performance in the CPU-heavy "Yet Another Arma Benchmark".

Getting about the same numbers I had on Windows 10 before abandoning it early 2017.

Good news. Hopefully this means Feral games will run fine on AMD at release in the feature.

Oh, cool! And finally I get to play some new content as well. With the last version I had played everything on Windows before I ditched it for Ubuntu, but now I get to play Laws of War DLC which I didn't get to play before :)

Great work. Sure wouldn't mind giving this a try on my Ubuntu 17.10 machine when it's ready.

HITMAN - Game of the Year Edition is out, with same-day Linux support

Quoting: BeamboomThis game here should be in every Linux gamers library, for so many reasons.
I’ll buy it when it’s avalaible DRM-free on GOG or Humble.

I don't see that happening anytime soon. Don't think I have ever seen any of these "games as a service" always online games on GOG. Don't see how that could work either, unless they took out the online aspect.

Great game with great Linux support.

Intel announce a new CPU with AMD graphics and HBM2 memory

This is no surprise really. It's been rumoured for quite a while.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

This is basically AMD and Intel taking a stab at Nvidia. I don't think this will compete with traditional APU's. This is more targeted towards competing with mid-range discreet graphics like GTX 1060 and providing that in a much more neat package.

F1 2017 released for Linux as Feral Interactive’s first Vulkan-only title, here’s a port report

Quoting: x_wingPhoronix updated their test and included RADV benchs with Mesa 17.3.

As expected, fps are lower than first run, but they're still quite impressive for 1080p@Ultra. The surprise: GTX1060 & RX 580 fps gets higher FPS than Guru3d benchs on Windows. Not sure, but I think that later patches of the game improved performance so Guru3d shows the release/prereslease performance.

Sadly Phoronix didn't use GTX 980ti on the new test run, what would have give an idea of how much plays the CPU on this game comparing Liam results.

And again with the apples and oranges. You can't come to any conclusions using Guru3D benchmark because they had completely different system and benchmark. Michael at Phoronix was using a significantly faster CPU for one thing. Were they even running on the same track?

Quoting: janpanDid you also use vulkan on Windows or did you run it on Directx on windows.

Is this a vulkan vs vulkan comparission or a vulkan vs directx ?

The Windows version has no Vulkan option. It is DX11 only.

Ah thanks for clarifying. It's like comparing a 20 year old perfected product with a 3 month old baby. That's amazing results then !

It's been mentioned a thousand times now, but I'll say it again. This isn't a fair straight up DX11 versus Vulkan comparison. This game does not run native Vulkan. Internally it still runs, and is limited by DX11, but GNU/Linux is not compatible with that, so Feral added an translation layer which translates DX11 commands to Vulkan. That doesn't mean you automatically get some sort of magic performance boost, because like I said, DX11 limitations still apply, and translating commands only adds more work for your PC and slows things down further compared to the DX11 version on Windows.

Want to try something running native Vulkan? Try Doom 2016 or Wolfensten 2 The New Colossus. Sadly, neither of those are available for Linux :(

Linux marketshare on Steam dropped again in October, as China takes a massive chunk of the market

Quoting: g000hHowever, if the person is in Steam statistics, it probably means they bought the game on Steam or acquired a steam key some other way, possibly fraudulently.

Except, all you need to appear in the statistics is a FREE Steam account and the FREE Steam client. You don't need to own any games. Also, there are some really popular free-to-play games on Steam such as DOTA2 which you can just install and play right away without paying a single cent.

If you were to pirate a game, it will run outside of Steam, so pirates don't get banned from Steam. Anything you run from within Steam is going to be legit, except if you are the victim of key fraud.
