Quoting: officerniceWhy not go independent
Because it's a nearly insurmountable task.
Very briefly put; they would have to build everything themselves from scratch and deliver it via their own network, solve every bug and security issue themselves, keep everything updated and somehow manage to afford all these hardware and bandwidth costs, and it only gets worse the bigger the distro gets. Not to mention tiny details like what sort of package management system they will choose (or make their own, bonus nightmare), which init system, glibc or musl or something else? The horrible list goes on forever.

LMDE should be the only Mint version already. I wonder when Clem and the gang will make the final move and cut Canonical out of the picture entirely. No better time than the present!

Quoting: MicHaeL_MonStaRBut isn't that something you have to configure for each individual game? As opposed to simply having the option of a higher resolution in the in-game settings.
Yeah, that would be the way to do it. I see your point but RSR is a gimmick honestly, and we absolutely do not want the Windows style bloat in our system drivers. Gamescope is a potent tool allowing us more flexibility and options anyway, only downside is the slightly more manual approach on a desktop Linux gaming machine.

Steam Deck utilizes tight Gamescope integration so it would be possible to use something similar on desktop, maybe with SteamOS 3 whenever Valve decides it's ready to release officially.

Quoting: Guestso how do I start this (from command line)?

Edit:
Gee, just specifying the pk3 file as argument did it. But why isn't that mentioned somewhere where it's easy to find?
Good point, it isn't specified clearly anywhere. Most people use Windows and the drag&drop lamer method does the trick there, albeit clunky as it is.

Quick examples here for those still wondering:
gzdoom -iwad doom.wad -file cheello_voxels_v2_1.pk3
or
gzdoom -iwad doom2.wad -file cheello_voxels_v2_1.pk3

Well, historically speaking every substantial deviation from the trend stemmed from flawed data and was typically corrected before long... but I'll take it. :)
