PipeWire 1.0 is out now for modern Audio and Video on Linux

Quoting: whizseI've been pretty promiscuous when it comes to audio subsystems. Over the years I've used OSS, ALSA, Jack, ESD, PulseAudio.

Maybe it's about time I got my tubes tied - my pipes wired?
Yeah, same here. Pipewire have so far been both a blast and a bore, it just works...

EmulationStation Desktop Edition v2.2 brings huge additions

Emulationstation is really nice actually, especially on the deck.

An alternative to EmuDeck is RetroDeck, similar idea but with more emphasis on convention over customization. So what's the difference between RetroDECK and EmuDeck?

I've found it worked better for me on the deck, on my desktop though I would probably want to have more control due to varying hardware.

Render scale settings is gonna be real nice!

I can't run the game well in native resolution without my gfx going crazy (it just does not like unity for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), so would be nice to be able to play the game without a blurry UI.

Quoting: t3gSometimes the Windows versions running in Proton are better than native as the native ports tend to be abandoned and locked to old libraries.
Divinity: Original Sin always comes to mind, and there are quite a few other ones listed on the Arch wiki for anyone interested: Archwiki: Game-specific troubleshooting

There are also a couple of games that while they do have a native version, it just runs better for other reasons... And that is without mentioning those that gateway cross platform play, I'm looking at you Civ6!

In case anyone is wondering, that is 320 million SEK (Swedish Crowns) or about 28 million €.

MonoGame plan to create a non-profit foundation to support development

Quoting: ElectricPrismThe name Mono hasn't aged well, I could imagine CoronaGame wouldnt be too popular either. Corona Beer sales probably aren't too hot either.

I'll beat the dead horse a little too -- stigmatized names like Gimp are going to sound offputting to donors. This isn't hard.

I wish them well with their efforts to transform and safeguard their ethos and values.
Hmm... What's wrong with 'mono'?

Proton 8.0-4 is now in testing with a Release Candidate

Quoting: Craggles086Any games out there that people are getting impatient for Valve to find a fix for??
Getting better reliability in badly coded JRPGs would be nice. Some of them, like the Neptunia series can be really rough to get to run properly with cutscenes, music, gamepad and proper frame rates.

Now if only they could stop being stubborn and admit removing sub-pixel rendering was a bad idea for the vast majority of users.

Quoting: Mershl
Quoting: JarmerDo you know a command to skip the launcher but ensure that vulkan is chosen as the renderer? Every time I play the game I have to remember to select vulkan in the larian launcher because it defaults to dx every single time.

As Steam game launch parameter: eval $( echo gamemoderun mangohud "%command%" | sed "s/Launcher\/LariLauncher.exe'.*/bin\/bg3.exe'/" )

remove gamemoderun / mangohud as you see fit. replace bg3.exe with bg3_dx11.exe to start DX11 instead.

Oh, I never realised you could do that to modify what gets launched!

Today I learned something nice. Thanks, mate!

Quoting: Purple Library GuyGames that aren't open source are normal, and there are various reasons that isn't likely to change unless our whole economic system changes. Game engines that aren't open source . . . I kind of hope gradually become eclipsed by ones that are. But emulator things for making old games work that aren't open source are . . . problematic IMO. Especially when there's just one guy doing it. He loses interest or gets hit by a bus and then it just quietly rots because nobody can ever update it again, and so much for preserving the game. Not a basket I'd want to be putting my eggs in.
Amusingly, even if something is open source, if someone doesn't maintain the code, it'll stop working. Xkobo is an example, the C source is out there, but modern gcc doesn't like it too much. It's still built for NetBSD 9.0 though!

Yes, but if anybody is interested enough, they can take over.

It is rarely that easy though. It is the beautiful lie about open-source we tell ourselves to sleep well at night, but when a project grows to the point slaapliedje is talking about people have already moved on.

Past a certain point there is so much work involved that you are better off paying an expert to do it for you anyway, like GOG or the man, the legend: Ethan Lee (@flibitijibibo).
