Oniken Action Platformer Released On Steam For Linux Using Wine
5 February 2014 at 1:15 pm UTC

I can in some cases understand the use of Wine to bring your game to Linux, but I think we can call this pure laziness. This game isn't exactly technologically advanced and the engine should be fairly easy to port to Linux. Hey, we even have native AAAs, so an 8-bit platformer should definitely be possible with the libraries and technologies on Linux.

Experimenting with Steam's In-Home Streaming

Quoting: minjNice video :) However, the recordings are not in sync, the client actually runs ahead of the server. This basically renders all latency comments unsubstantiated :]

Also, how is it doing with client input?

Probably won't use it for now as I don't have 2 rigs with a practical form factor at the moment.
Oh and all windows in the house lead to my neighborhood ;)
Ah, I was actually supposed to mention this, but I forgot. Yes, the recordings are off-sync because I had to synchronize them manually and I can usually only get it somewhat right. It didn't help that the constant game changing usually messes up the recording, though this time it was mostly just the audio. That's why I decided to use the tablet to show both of the screens at the same time with lower quality to show what the latency between the client and the host is all about.

The client input is pretty much there, though my laptop's touchpad seems to screw up the mouse input pretty badly. Keyboard works with almost every game I've tested and there isn't any noticeable latency to speak of.

Experimenting with Steam's In-Home Streaming

Quoting: abelthorneI thought streaming from Linux wasn't working yet (in the FAQ: "Game launcher streaming from Linux is not currently supported.";). Did I misunderstood or has it been implemented recently?
It probably means that launchers like the settings launchers of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Trine 2 etc don't work. The streaming from Linux works fine as you can see from the video. :D

INSURGENCY team-based realistic FPS coming to Linux

Quoting: SameSameThe biggest problem is that Linux users cannot even get along with each other even when they same the same thing, want the same thing, struggling towards the same goal.

It is also the biggest advantage that everyone can fix it the way they want, so they do not really need to get along, for the most parts.

XKCD covered it pretty good in 3 frames.

http://xkcd.com/927/

I haven't seen that from anyone apart from Canonical and Gnome devs, those guys have a serious NIH syndrome. Rest of the guys can usually get along with each other pretty nicely.

And BTW, may I ask how this is relevant to this article?

Quoting: Quote from krscueDude, the text is right there in the video, you really don't have to read it out loud.
IMO.
If he didn't say things out aloud it wouldn't be a cast.

If you were able to read you'd know I didn't tell him to not speak, just not read out all the conversations in the game.
It would be more useful if he talked about his experience with the game, not the stuff we can already see.
That's a valid point. I wasn't completely sure what to do with those conversations and because I normally do Let's Play videos I went ahead and did what I usually do, which means reading everything possible out loud. I have to agree that it didn't work so well with the GOL Cast format and I will try to avoid that in the future.

Free Valve Games For Debian Developers

Considering most of these comments are now about DRM on Steam I would suggest for the sake of staying on-topic for all the rest of this DRM debate to be posted on the relevant forum thread that we set up when we saw this type of a thing last time. The people here have made it clear why Steam is or is not DRM and future comments don't have to clarify upon that. If you believe this conversation needs to be kept alive and you think you have a valid point, please post your comments to the thread linked below:

GOL Cast: Crashing On Zombie Infested Islands in Estranged: Act I

Quoting: Quote from Bumadarit's quiet enjoyable, only thing I found wrong was the guy at the start, still nasty mobs and his family is missing and he is like here have my gun I don't need it.... would be more convincing if he was hurt/dyeing.

but for the rest good good fun
In the beta he had a shotgun and didn't care too much about the small pistol, but they decided to change the whole thing. They should have kept the original beginning IMO, but luckily it's just a minor thing.

Quoting: Quote from PKM"They believe pay 2 win is fine, if it doesn't upset other players"
But they don't have any pay2win items as far as I am aware, lot's of skins but nothing that gives you advantage over other players (unless you count your character looking fabulous as a advantage) at least not for Dota 2 or TF2.
Last time I played TF2 it had plenty of items that had different statistics including weapons and I had pretty rubbish stuff too.
I think the items balance each other out pretty nicely. Good items usually have bad side-effects and you need to think about the loadout synergies to really make the items suit your playstyle. Basically there are no bad weapons or good weapons, there are just weapons that suit other situations better than others.

Quoting: Quote from WNon-commerical licenses aren't open source though :/ I can understand using an NC license for the artwork, but not the code. That means other people can't start a crowdfunding campaign to hire someone to add new features.
You are mistaking "open source" as "free software". If you've ever listened to Stallman, he always states there is difference between the two terms. Open source means that the code is there for people to inspect, free/libre software (by GPL) means that the code is distributed publicly and derivative work can be published as long as the derivative is also licensed under GPL and follows their terms.

In this case the software is indeed open source, but not free software as the license restricts you from making your own commercial derivative. To me that sounds pretty fair and gives the users a lot of freedom when compared to most commercial software out there.

Quoting: Quote from philip550cEveryone I know that bought the bundle has it on steam now. I thought it was a public release?
I don't know really. Xpander told me that he couldn't download it, but I am not sure if he bought the bundle. I think if you got it through the bundle it became downloadable to you or something like that, but for now some people can't seem to download it through Steam.
