Nightdive Studios show off how System Shock is returning to the original vision

There are a number of videos and images posted of their progress on the previous build on their Kickstarter page; seemed like they were doing something along the scale of the new Prey or Dishonoured. It looked like it could have been quite good, but also at a much higher budget than the current version and diverging significantly from the original System Shock.

Quoting: FeistSounds rather hopeful at least.
Though I am kind of curious about what *precisely* they were cooking up before they started over. Was it really so wrong/disastrous/fragmented as they are making it sound like? Or could most of what they had worked on been integrated into the finished game without making the end result a horrific "non-system shock" failure...?

In the meantime, isn't Blender doing almost the same with their realtime Eevee renderer? I know Eevee is not technically a ray tracer, but isn't it pulling similar tricks?

Sorry if I missed it, but what type of game is this? The trailer didn't tell me anything (at all) and the description could be anything from a point'n'click adventure game, to a platformer to a story-based FPS.
Oh wait, it has a "Visual Novel" tag. Is it animated then? In what way is it HD now?
EDIT: To answer my own question, this other trailer gives a much better indication of what type of gameplay and presentation to expect: View video on youtube.com

I actually completely missed that this came out for Linux! I remember reading about it before it came out, but I don't believe Linux was mentioned where-ever I read about it.
So, in short, if they hadn't pulled the free-piracy-trick, it would have remained missed for me. Good work Voksi and Devolver Digital!

VR is here to stay, the question is just when it'll become mainstream.
Sidenote: Seeing as all the teenagers I know (which, admittedly, aren't that many seeing as I'm about twice that age) have at least some form of VR device (Google Cardboard / plastic equivalent and/or a GearVR), VR is already a part of their notion of which established media platforms exist. As VR gets better and better, I find it hard to believe that an entire generation will suddenly decide to just drop the entire medium.

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoI'm 40 years old and I can tell you that Vr was a commercial failure, is a commercial failure and will be a commercial failure, because of the high price of the hardware needed, and because the human is an animal of habits...VR already has an audience, even on a small platform with few VR titles, like ours. The fact that the hardware cost has already pretty much halved since the first generation of this new wave of VR came out, should also tell you that it'll keep dropping.
About the game... bleh.. Just what We need! Another digital card game.... ¬¬

Rise of Insanity is a psychological horror that ends up rather boring

Thanks for the warning! I love a good, psychological horror game (or novel or film) but I absolutely despise jump-startles (I don't like calling them scares; they aren't) and the story and mood needs to the centrepiece of the experience, so I'll be giving this one a wide berth.

Ahh, too many good games coming out now! I thought I was done buying games for this month, but there goes another straight in the basket! I liked Grimrock (though didn't love it), had quite some fun with Eye of the Beholder on my trusty old Amiga and I do love me some steampunk, so I'm looking forward to spending some time in this universe :D

I haven't bought anything on GOG in ages, due to the ease of use of Steam, but the fact that GOG helped the Linux port just got them a sale :D
