Like getting scared? Some Horror games you have to check out on Linux & SteamOS

Quoting: qptain NemoKnock-knock is a 2D game with a cartoony style but it does wonders with atmosphere and I found it absolutely horrifying, especially at first. It also plays around with some interesting themes and approaches. One of the best horror games I've played/seen.
White Night is something I've only seen the beginning of and in a video played by others too, but that certainly was enough to make me realize it belongs in this conversation alright. I'm yet to find the courage to check it out properly.
The Cat Lady is almost becoming somewhat of a modern classic among those who are familiar with it. It's disturbing, scary and interesting.

Also I feel that Oxenfree deserves an honorable mention, because while not a horror game, it does pleasant spooky supernatural atmosphere better than many straight-up horror games.
Just be careful with Knock-knock and White Night. I thoroughly enjoyed both of them until I very suddenly didn't. Knock-Knock has an odd timer mechanic towards the end, where it's entirely possible to end up not being able to finish the game without starting over; apparently, it's by design, but I've rarely felt more cheated by a game.
White Night is very good, but there is some delay/issues on the controls during camera changes in the Linux port making one specific segment about halfway through the game basically impossible to get through. I tried for hours but eventually had to abandon the game.

Steam's latest Hardware Survey is out, shows Linux at 0.84%

I run Steam in Big Picture constantly to better enjoy my Steam Controller, and I suspect most who have the controller are doing the same. Before I got the controller, though, I hadn't had the survey in.... years?

In any case, it's a hardware survey; no one should be using it to count Linux users.

Why are we quoting Red Letter Media?

Anyhow, very impressive to see an actual patch for Denuvo already! I hope they manage to make the whole thing run.

I'll be returning for the Asimov patch. Last I played, I was stuck in mid-game for about two hours, with basically nothing happening - it was a great 15 hours before that, though :D

The Way of Life, a short and interesting single-player experience, released on Steam for free with Linux support

Ah, it seems much expanded from the initial version (which I didn't like much). Nice to see that the Linux support was kept :)

EDIT: Turns out I'm still not a fan of this game. Extremely clunky and expository writing, bad gameplay and not really anything special done with the basic idea. It's still a good idea for a game, just badly executed.

Wow, that's quite an Alien shader issue! I wouldn't mind that as a mod, actually :P

Feral Interactive are teasing another new Linux & Mac port with a new clue

Seriously hoping for Doom too.
The problem with removing Denuvo instead of porting it is that I don't think Zenimax would ever allow it.

So, discussion over, I believe?
Trumpet you say?

Also, the main thing holding a potential port of DOOM back, would be the use of the Denuvo DRM system, but apparently Total War: Warhammer is also using Denuvo and that game is coming to Linux, so that reason may be out the window :)

Editorial: Valve have not abandoned SteamOS or Linux, things are looking pretty good

The state of Linux gaming is quite good, I agree, but the launch of SteamVR / HTC Vive without (the promised) Linux support really leaves me wondering what their plan is.
I mean, we're talking about a company that runs a console platform, releasing a peripheral without support for their own platform. Imagine if this had been any other company, eg. Sony releasing their Playstation-VR with support for Windows PC only and Playstation support coming eventually - it would be considered madness, but somehow, for SteamOS it's generally accepted as okay.
Everything else Valve is doing fills me with hope, but that specific move threatens to abolish that hope with bad planning.

No, it’s not.
No, really, it is. The issue only happens with the NVIDIA driver and only in very few games. Leaving it on also has a negative impact on the framerate of all other games and Direct3D programs that don't have the issue, so it should definitely not be on by default. If you want more information about it, the thread concerning the issue has the full story, including tests :)

EDIT: Also, if anyone here is using Vineyard, I just added support for the flag (CSMT and DXVA2-VAAPI support were also recently added), so, yeah, that's easier now :)
