Valve Will Launch Own VR Device, To Be Shown At GDC

I would probably pick one up. I've been itching to buy an Oculus, but stayed away due to the beta state and the poor Linux support from content providers and I'm restraining myself from getting the Samsung GearVR due to the "enthusiast edition" label, but a proper product from the likes of Valve would very likely get my money.

Not to be rude, but I hope the English text gets a look over before it's released as it comes off as quite stunted and slightly childish in that trailer.

Quoting: CybolicWell, it's nitpicking really, but there was also an official boxed release of Quake for Linux.
Just to ensure I am not outdone in terms of nitpickery, [...]
You hereby win the nitpicking :)

Quoting: Xylemonid Software has had the opportunity to do this for so many years via Steam, but it seems Zenimax wants them putting no effort at all towards Mac or Linux. Such a shame really, especially since up until Quake 4 there were official Linux ports.
There were Linux ports even as recently as Enemy Territory: Quake Wars in 2007 actually. It should be noted though that other than Quake Live the Linux releases that were put out by id Software at that time were not actually official ports as you claim but instead the personal work of Timothee Besset who left the company around when Zenimax forcibly stamped out the practice of releasing unofficial binaries.

I think the most damning thing is that no id Software titles have even appeared on GOG.com for any platform, except for the ones that were published by Apogee and as such could be placed there by them. It is a real shame that I can not recommend a good place to buy Doom or Quake.

Quoting: JSVRamirezSuch a shame that DNF development ended up with Gearbox, one of the most Linux unfriendly devs out there. I'd love to have seen that in this box.
Didn't they give us Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (on launch no less)?

Distance Racing Game Now In Beta

Runs great here except the controls are weirdly mapped on my XBox-compatible Logitech gamepad (using xpad); it still works great on the the earlier levels, but becomes unusable when the game starts throwing pitch, yaw and rolls into the mix.

The Steam Controller: Not Everyone Gets It

Quoting: lavei always wondered why noone ever implemented a trackball into gamepads. every finger besides thumbs are bored to death with current gamepads, even tho they are the most precise tools we got. you could easily get rid of right side accelerator and button (RT & RB) and implement a trackball there for precise aiming
[..]
I recommend checking out the videos or blogs on how Valve arrived at the current design; they actually started by implementing two trackballs where the current trackpads are and it's an interesting story how they arrived at the current design from that.

EDIT: Ah, sorry, only one trackball. Check out a picture of some of their prototype desings for an idea on the progression:

Metro 2033 & Metro Last Light Getting Upgrades, Metro 2033 To Release On Linux
24 May 2014 at 5:12 pm UTC

I guess I'll pick up Metro 2033 Redux so I can at last play that title, but I probably won't be buying Last Light as I'm barely playing the current release of it due to all the crashing.

DRM Boosts Profits & It's Here To Stay
23 April 2014 at 9:17 am UTC

The only impact DRM'ed games (I mean SecuROM and the likes, not Steam) have had for me is that I will either not buy them based on user reports or I will buy them, but end up playing a cracked/"illegal" download anyway since Wine and DRM often don't go well together.

I fail to see what good DRM does for anyone. Legitimate users are punished and illegal downloaders still have access to the games.

System Shock 2 FPS Now Available On Linux

Quoting: CybolicI'll have to disagree as well.
The audio is crackling for me, like in many other Wine games, and the loading times, the delay for the pause menu and loading/saving are several minutes and I'm on a 4GHz Intel i7 with 48GB RAM, a GeForce GTX 660 Ti and running the game from a striped SSD array - there's clearly something wrong with the Wine layer.
Move the audio off of OpenAL, fixed the sound for me.
Yeah, but then you don't get that lovely late 90s reverb effect ;)
I "fixed" it by changing the PulseAudio buffer settings (in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf) to:default-fragments = 10
default-fragment-size-msec = 5
