Quoting: legluondunetSteam team made big progress for Far Cry 3, the game is now considered as "Silver". It's not perfect yet, you have to disable Uplay overlay and the game did not exit cleanly, you have to kill manually Uplay and some other process. But with Proton 3.16-8 the game is playable in Directx11 mode.

https://www.protondb.com/app/220240

Like others, you need to use a crack to avoid Uplay.
I had to install a crack to play the game due to uplay not working.
Works fine with a crack (Withnot Uplay)
I used a crack to remove Uplay. Without Uplay it works perfectly.
Runs out of the box if you install the Crack.

i wonder if this works with all ubisoft games. its clearly not allowed, but does steam/ubisoft sees it and maybe ban your account?

Puppygames are making all their games free for Linux, with Basingstoke first

Quoting: razing32Hmmm

Any idea WHY they are making their games free ?

linux enthusiasts? help linux to thrive?
but linux is a very small market and they wont lose a lot of money AND you can donate, so they get some amount of money

something valve should to with their games... after they start making games again... real games, not card games

metro doesnt really surprise me, because it uses an advanced engine of metro1+2

just cause 4, hitman 2, shadow of the tomb raider, Mutant Year Zero, etc

i wish it would be possible to sort protondb by release date, or top sellers

Quoting: mylkaand again............ VULKAN graphics cards are powerful enough to translate every dx9 only game to OPENGL with 100+ FPS.

Even low end integrated GPUs support Vulkan now. Vulkan support in GPUs has nothing to do with expected performance.

i dont think someone buys an IGP and wants to play AAA 3D games, because thats also pretty hard on windows
i know a ryzen 3 can play GTA5 on windows with 720p and low settings, but if you really want to play, you need a dedicated graphics card. i was expecting, that we are on the same page here. i said "card"... a card isnt an IGP, which you normally dont use for gaming

but maybe someone has a ryzen 3 and can test dishonored on it with proton

Vega 8 / Vega 11 suffer same problem and this problem is system shared memory is too slow compared for example ddr5 64bit 6000mhz

Amd needs put for example hbm, this can fix problem of actual igps but hbm is not cheap

^_^

it isnt really a problem, because these CPUs are not meant for gaming, except you are into stardew valley, nidhogg and point and click adventures

Quoting: mylkavulkan cards are much newer than the latest dx9 game with the best graphics (outlast, dark souls 2)
so these cards can easily translate dx9 to opengl with 100+ fps
Graphics cards don't translate anything, the CPU does the heavy lifting. And Dishonored 1 (being one of the later D3D9 titles out there) runs at a whopping 30 FPS on my Ryzen 2700X + RX 480 with wined3d in some scenes. That much for "100+ FPS" on modern hardware.

Now wined3d could probably be improved significantly by using more modern OpenGL (PBA sort of did that as a proof-of-concept), but someone would actually have to do that in a way that is acceptable for wine upstream, and you'd probably still end up with something that's slower than a solid Vulkan-based implementation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pMeq67vkT8

weaker CPU, better GPU, 1440. far above 30fps. i guess its also driver related, that you just have 30

i had this with batman. it also was around 30fps. DXVK wasnt working, so i had to use opengl
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHkRiJtJWiY
the thing is: i didnt get more fps when i bought a rx580

but it was very playable. maybe it is better now, because it was one of the first proton versions

maybe i buy dishonored when it is on sale and try it myself

and there is absolutely no guarantee, that it works better with dx9->vulkan

i stick to my opinon. nice project, but there are more important things, than a few FPS for old games

for dx9->vulkan you need a VULKAN graphics card... obviously
vulkan cards are much newer than the latest dx9 game with the best graphics (outlast, dark souls 2)
so these cards can easily translate dx9 to opengl with 100+ fps

https://en.everybodywiki.com/List_of_games_with_DirectX_9_support
some of them have linux support and i dont see any dx9 only game, which needs vulkan to perform better

for me it doesnt make any sense. why doesnt he spend his time with sth more useful?
like: dx12->vulkan

There are plenty of DX9 games out there, using a Vulkan based driver would offer many advantages in the future like reduced maintenance for driver development, at one point maybe only Vulkan is required and nothing else. This could be very important especially for new graphic cards without a mature Vulkan driver. OpenGL divers are a complex beast, just look at how long AMD needed develop and improve them to reach the actual level. Our look at Wine, their D3D9 performance is still not the best after so many years. Vulkan attracted a lot of talented developers and I'm really grateful for their work (RADV, DXVK, Zink, DXUP, MoltenVK, ...)! DX12 is a niche, not sure if there are DX12 only games. If there would be, then you can check the status of Wine's VKD3D, so even that would be covered. So yes, D9VK is really useful! Even if it wouldn't at the moment for some, it doesn't mean lot of other people think differently already now

and again............ VULKAN graphics cards are powerful enough to translate every dx9 only game to OPENGL with 100+ FPS. so whats your point on performance? how many FPS do you need to play dark souls 2?

DX12 is NOT a niche. last 2 tomb raider, hitman, DXMD, rust, warhammer, battlefield, metro, etc
DX12 ONLY is a niche...

anyways... DX12 ist the future.... raytracing
no one uses DX9 nowadays
playing old games is a niche. there are a few evergreens, but there are also so many new games you want to play

imho it is more useful, to invest in the future, than having 120FPS on dark souls 2

Something for the weekend: HITMAN 2’s first mission is now free and works great in Steam Play on Linux

Quoting: amanreHi,
I installed the game in steam, but for some reason it doesn't start up. Any help would be appreciated .
I have an Acer laptop, with an gforce GT 420M maybe the card is to small .

Thanks in advance
amanre

could it be, that it is a very old laptop?

terminal -> vulkaninfo | more
you can see if you have vulkan installed

you also can try "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" as launch option in steam
