Quoting: BrisseQuoting: FaattoriQuoting: liamdaweQuoting: BrissePlayed 10 hours already. First impressions were not good with major stuttering while compiling shaders but after running around for several minutes and putting up with the stuttering it finally goes away as most of the level has been explored and the shaders are saved to disk cache. It's odd, I was fully expecting it to be stuttery, but even on my first attempt at that particular level, I didn't really see any.
Might be that NVIDIA has more readily available shader state(?) caches to be shared by Steam than AMD.
That would be my guess as well, especially considering about 3/4 of the userbase use Nvidia. As an AMD user on a rolling distro with the latest drivers and frequent updates, I almost always see stuttering initially when playing games through Proton. In most games it's no big deal, it only takes a few seconds, but in recent and graphically complex games like HITMAN 2 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider it is so severe that your first thought is "this is unplayable", but patience is rewarded and once that on disk shader cache is built up to completion the games become perfectly smooth.

DXVK, the project for D3D11 and D3D10 over Vulkan hits the big 1.0

it is also a long way to get them to use vulkan
vulkan supports win7 8 and 10, but they still usw both dx11 and dx12 for most of the games

Quoting: PhlebiacQuoting: mylkaDX11 will die with win7 (i know win7 will die slowly)
Windows 8.x is stuck at DX11 also (I didn't realize even Vista got it):

So it's going to be around longer than that (even if Win8 wasn't as popular).

there is a lot to do.
DX11 will die with win7 (i know win7 will die slowly) and DXVK will be useless for new games. the next big milestone for valve is, to make developers use VULKAN and of course fix the uplay and other 3rd party launcher things

Quoting: scaineEAC compatibility is the last big milestone, at least for the games I want to play - games like Vermintide 2, Strange Brigade and Paladins.
Overwatch will do me nicely for the moment however.

even if that is true, life is strange 2 was announced for linux before proton came out
hitman2 worked day 1 with proton (except online, but this also works now)
so maybe feral just dont get the licence to port hitman, because IOI can have linux money too

Quoting: dannielloQuoting: mylkaNot entirely true. Feral somewhere mentioned that if game port is announced - you could buy it before Linux release, they will get their money anyway (probably it is some kind of agreement between Feral and publishers). So in case of Life is Strange 2 - they will receive money even if you played it on Linux via Steam Proton before port release. In case of Hitman 2 - port is not announced, so probably you are right and Feral will receive nothing...Quoting: GuestFixes for HITMAN 2?
I played the whole game with Proton and didn't noticed any issues. What was wrong? o.o
i guess this is why. this game runs pretty good with proton and some linux users already played it
same with life is strange 2.
less money for feral

feral should focus on unplayable games like online games (or Hitman: Absolution) and action games where you need more FPS... like shadow of war

ignore linux forever because, they made a crappy port and cancled linux for w3
they dont have to officially support it, but behind the curtains they could support proton with VULKAN
there isnt a release date by now and linux has seen a lot of improvements since w2.
they can give it another try and look how it works

Quoting: HoriQuoting: mylkasince witcher 3 is such popular on linux and CDPR sees how many proton gamers there are, i wonder if they make cyberpunk for linux like witcher 2... or at least support proton with vulkanI don't think they want anything to do with Linux again.
AFAIK they received threats when Witcher 3 took too long to port + they were mad with Witcher 2's performance (and the fact it was Wine-wrapped, not native), and it got so ugly that they canceled it altogether.
They basically hate us now. Just beause some loud mouths couldn't accept the fact that we're such a small market that a lot of the stuff we get is basically charity, and they went to demand things like some kind of kings or something.

do they complain?
i think proton ist another reason, why vulkan support is a waste of time and money, because IF they sell this game, then in a steam sale for 4€ (30% steam, or a little less)
VULKAN costes more, than they would earn i think, so better invest time and money in newer titles
Quoting: mylkaQuoting: Comandante ÑoñardoIs almost 50% more of the Feral port performance... They should update their port to vulkan.
it doesnt make any sense. it costs money and i dont think they sell a lot of copies
besides, hardware is better now and i think you can play TR with a mid range PC on ultra
Besides the performance being terrible on TR2013, it also does not look nearly as nice, there seems to be lots of missing shader effects. The console versions look a lot better. If they don't want to bring it to vulkan, then they can't complain when people use proton instead, for the improved performance and visuals.
