1. Husband and wife development team.
2. Channeling Monty Python.
3. Lucasfilm/LucasArts inspired (e.g., Manic Mansion).

Pledged!

Steam Game Festival is now called Steam Next Fest, returning June 16

I enjoyed the last Steam Festival. I always have liked the "try before you buy" model. Much of the time watching a "trailer" (i.e., advertisement) for a game gives me almost no feel for whether I will enjoy playing a game or not.

I also like the criteria that they have established to determine which developers are eligible. Helps to separate the wheat from the chaff.

I would guess that this means that the Steam Summer Sale will occur shortly this event. I need to start saving my loose change now.

Loop Hero is another success story with over 500K sales, much more to come to it

I Need Help! ... I can't stop scooping the Loop!

Very addictive and enjoyable game. The mechanics and strategy of this game (e.g., tile placement) was quite a mystery when the game was first released and the Steam Guides were extremely limited. This has changed significantly in the last week. Knowing the tile placement combos and their effects is essential to quickly acquiring resources and advancing your progress in the game. I have also found the Reddit Loop Hero Community to be extremely helpful.

Loop Hero is out now and I'm going to need help to tear myself away from it

This is the first time I have purchased a game within an hour of publication on Steam. I played the demo for an hour and I knew it was something I would enjoy. I should mention that the demo version became unavailable at the time of the full release.

It reminds me of a game called Gateway to Apshai that I played for untold hours on my Commodore 64. The game was developed/published by Epyx Computer Software, which had a number of very popular games in the 80s.

Although Gateway to Apshai was a dungeon crawler; the MIDI generated sound track, gameplay progression and even the pixelized hero are so reminiscent of the Apshai series. I can see now that I am going to be spending a considerable amount of time "scooping the loop" in Loop Hero.

Hadean Tactics, a realtime auto-battler with deck building, launches today

Thanks for the in-depth review Scaine.

This definitely looks like a game I would enjoy. I liked Slay the Spire, but was unable to get by one of the bosses after man, many attempts. I enjoyed DOTA Underlords, but I don't play well with others.

Hadean Tactics looks like it contains the elements of these games I enjoyed and eliminates the aspects I found undesirable/frustrating.

With a few days left on the Kickstarter, Ova Magica has been an incredible success

There is a good reason why this Kickstarter campaign has reached all but one of their stretch goals with 3 days remaining. Although the game is not due out until May of 2022, the Kickstarter page shows that the game's content, mechanics and graphics are quite mature. In addition, the Physical Rewards and Add-ons are great. I was particularly impressed with the Collector's Tin Lunch Box. I can just imagine myself walking into the office with my Ova Magica lunch box under my arm. My co-worker's would be oh so jealous.

Valheim has become the next survival game hit on Steam

Bought this game soon after reading the last article and all the great comments from GoL users. Have not wandered far from my spawn point because I am having so much fun constructing my first "shack". I have only played 4 hours, so I will eventually leave the nest; but at this point I am extremely happy with the game.

Deck-building fast-paced battler One Step From Eden gets a huge free expansion update

I likely would have overlooked One Step From Eden on the Humble Choice this month, but thanks to the Liam's Humble Choice Article, it is in my library now! Will be downloading and giving it a try this evening. I am glad to see the "easy" mode option has been added. I have a propensity in life to take the easy way out and my gaming habits are no different.

The GamingOnLinux Podcast returns, in a special Co-Op News Punch episode
4 October 2020 at 10:02 pm UTC

I had forgotten how much I enjoyed these podcasts!

The new Co-Op format was fantastic. As the discussion focusing on game streaming played out, I felt an interesting and very informative synergy was created. Two heads are better than one!

Really looking forward to the Distro Podcast. This subject is something that I have grappling with the last couple months.

Comet 64 is an upcoming programming puzzler set in 1984

As someone who bought a used Commodore 64 in December 1985 ($300) and still has the original "Programmer's Reference Guide" (400+ pages), this game resonates for me. It brings back fond memories of trying to learn to program on the C64.

WARNING:
If you do not want to listen to some old guy talking the "I remember when..." routine, please stop reading now!

My experience with Commodore BASIC (6502 Microsoft BASIC):
I spent weeks typing in the code from a book named "Compute!'s Data File Handler for the Commodore 64". Most of the modules were written in Commodore basic, but some of the routines were in machine language. At this point in time I had a 1541 Disk Drive (170 Kb disks).
Compute!'s Data File Handler for the Commodore 64 - Example
When I was finished, I had a nice database management system that I used it for a couple different projects at home and at work.

Since I am getting nostalgic (You were warned!)

My early experience with C64 gaming:
I would spend a couple hours typing in a machine language game from Compute!'s Gazette.

When I finished typing in the program, I had a game I could play!... but I could not turn off the C64 because I had no storage device and would lose the program. Eventually I got bored or wanted to use the computer for some other project and lost my game.

OK... That's it! I will stop now.
