I couldn't get the hang of the controls on Steam Deck last time. Does anyone know if that's improved?

Quoting: toojaysI didn't defeat a single horde! After three attempts at each horde in the main storyline, the game offered to just let me skip it. I decided that hordes were not at all enjoyable for me, so I unashamedly took the offer. I really enjoyed the rest of the game. I finished the main story but not all of the side quests. My favourite bits were taking out ambush camps silently. Ninja St John!

That's interesting. I wonder why I was never offered that option?

Ah. Looks like I got it because I was playing on Easy: https://www.reddit.com/r/DaysGone/comments/glhry3/comment/fr02dha/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

I had to give up on Days Gone. I'd spec my entire character around Focus, and when you get to the horde level, focus is useless - you need stamina. After about 20 attempts, it was time to un-install and move on, which is a shame, cos it was a great game otherwise, once you get over the fact that a fully tanked Harley can seemingly only travel about 2 kilometres before needing re-fueled!

Looking forward to the day the existing market is saturated enough for Valve to start selling to Australia.

Quoting: PhiladelphusCool to see it expand, but wow, RIP Australia. I still feel a bit guilty since I reserved my Deck while living there last year when the announcement came out, since I'd never gotten around to changing my Steam region from North America.

I predict AU/NZ wont be far behind (next Thursday?) and it will be via EBGames.

I'll be checking the dns ...

Host steamdeck.ebgames.com.au not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)

I hope you're right, but what's this rumour based on? And why would that DNS entry exist?

I don't much play FPS but bought this for Ion Fury. If anyone wants one of the others PM me. Edit: All gone!

Hilariously, Ion Fury downloaded quicker than I could write this comment. 90MiB! That reminds me of the old Duke Nukem days already!

The Valve Steam Deck, lots of excitement and plenty to think about for Linux gaming

It looks a bit clunkier than the Switch (and it's far heavier), but I'd buy it for in-home streaming if nothing else. I already have a Steam Link for the TV, but when Mrs Toojays is using the TV and I've already been sitting at my desk all day I'd rather take a hand-held to the bedroom.

Unfortunately it's not available to Australia yet.

Regarding the point of "largely forces Linux gaming to be from a single vendor with Valve." If it really is an open platform (and we have no reason to doubt Valve here), that's not Valve's fault. GoG or Epic could create anything from an app store to a full-blown replacement OS for this thing.

I have 20-odd Switch games. I have 200+ games for this, and it is still half a year away from launch. That's a huge boost for the Steam Deck.
