The itch.io charity bundle hits over $4 million and now over 1,500 items inside

Yep, thank goodness for the search function! It was bad enough flipping through 25 pages on the weekend, let alone 50 now!

Depth of Extinction and 2064: Read Only Memories look like interesting additions to me.

I'd also like to try Long Gone Days. Apparently it's not getting a Linux release until later. It started up fine under Wine though.

I've been spoiled by having Proton integrated into Steam, which is the launcher I usually use. But now I have a bunch of Windows games on Itch, I'm running the Windows Itch launcher via Lutris to get the equivalent functionality without doing any hard work. I'd like to be able to add selected Windows Itch games to Steam so my son can access them from family mode without having access to my whole Itch library. Hopefully this is doable, but maybe I have too many layers of indirection. Suggestions welcome.

Microsoft Build - DirectX and Linux (WSL) plus more

Quoting: EhvisTo me the whole WSL thing is a curiosity. They made a Linux kernel work on Windows in a VM like manner, but what is the point? To have your Linux service go down with a windows update?
I don't think it's intended for production, but development. They want developers to stay using Visual Studio as it's really easy to deploy to Azure from there. (I haven't done this myself, but that's my understanding.)

Come tell us about what you've been gaming on Linux lately

I'm still on my first playthrough of Divinity: Original Sin 2. I'm in the final act (Arx) now. It's a very good game, but a little long for time-poor me. I think I started last December! I'm determined to finish it before I move on to the HITMAN 2 campain though.

I had my first Remote Play Together session last week, a friend and I played Mother Russia Bleeds. That game is way more fun with a friend. Remote Play Together seems a little flakey. I added some port forwards to my router. No idea if they helped, before my friend failed to connect 100% of the time, now he failed to connect 50% of the time. I guess that's progress.

I've also been playing Thronebreaker on the Switch.

Get well soon Liam.

Humble Choice has a new bundle up for April with a bonus game if you subscribe
3 April 2020 at 10:28 pm UTC

Quoting: kuhpunktThe "Standard Edition" that's free is just the first level. What you get in the Humble package is the actual standard game, that's 59,95€ at the moment on Steam.
The free demo is a good way to find out if your system will run Hitman 2 under Proton. If you own Hitman 1 and create an account with IO (the developer), they give you the Hitman-1-in-Hitman-2 DLC, which works even if you didn't buy Hitman 2 yet. I enjoyed working my way through that last July/August, so this bundle is instabuy for me just for Hitman 2.

I've heard good things about GRIS, but looking at protondb it needs some media foundation hack to work in proton and I can't be arsed with that.

P.S. The Hitman 1 demo is probably better for deciding if you actually like the gameplay. IIRC the infiltration in the Hitman 2 demo was relatively dull.

A new stable Steam Client update is out with plenty of Linux fixes

Fingers crossed that among the remote play bugfixes is some relief for issue 6804, where the client intermittently (but more often than not) does not allow streaming Proton games.

If you're self-isolating and in need, here's a bunch of awesome free Linux games

Quoting: brokeassbenAlso, I have a ton of duplicate Humble keys that I've acquired over the years. As long as people won't resell them, I'd be up for trading or gifting them to fellow GOLers.

I also have a fair few I'd be happy to give away to members of this community. See https://barter.vg/u/52bc/t/ for my list, PM me if you want something.

Humble Store has a 'Tabletop Sale' going, some good Linux games on offer

Quoting: scaineI can vouch for Deep Sky Derelicts. I only did one playthrough, but it was 13 hours of mainly pure joy. Great tactical battles and some nice synergies to take advantage of. For a fiver? Highly recommended! The first hour is pretty slow though, so give it a chance to shine.

Why is humble listing it as windows only ? Mistake on their part ?

Must be. I have it, it's definitely Linux native. Maybe it wasn't ported to Linux and release and Humble never updated their records? (Just speculation.)

What have you been playing recently and what do you think about it?

I'm mostly playing Divinity: Original Sin 2. I'm doing some final mopping up in Driftwood. Just going to clear out the Mill before I move on to the next act. It's a great game, and works really well for couch play via Steam Link + controller, which is how I'm playing it. The only downside for me is its epic length. It puts me off getting Pathfinder: Kingmaker in this month's Humble Choice (which I paused) since I don't feel I will need another 100 hour+ RPG in my life for a year or so after this. Especially since I'm also playing Breath of the Wild on Switch during my commutes, and I have unfinished playthroughs of Pillars of Eternity and Witcher 3 hanging around.

When I want a break from Original Sin 2 I'm working my way through Whispers of a Machine. I've just completed the first day. It's decent, but so far I'm not enjoying it as much as say, Unavowed, or Lamplight City. I still want to find out what happens though, so will stick at it.

Humble Store has a big sale going on some top indie games
18 February 2020 at 11:44 am UTC

I can highly recommend Shadow Tactics, it is excellent. It has a demo on Steam so you can try before you buy.

Humble are selling a dual Steam key + DRM-free download, but the DRM-free is only for Windows and Mac, which is odd. Still a great price just for the Steam key IMO.

I liked Dex, but found the hacking minigames too hard, so didn't get more than about an hour in. :(

A couple of my favourite soundtracks:

Warhammer 40K: Mechanicus - dubstep meets Gregorian chanting

Hotline Miami - high energy electronica
