Quoting: sergeDoes proton count as Wine gaming ?
It's not supposed to no, since Proton is supposed to be mainly a Steam thing, which is why we will be including a Steam Play question eventually when we can get the wording and options correct.

Wooops... I've just gone back in to change it to back to "never" in that case!

The super sweet Slime Rancher just had a nice optimisation update

This is one of those games that I need to get even though I have a huge backlog.

The next big Steam sale dates have been leaked, as usual

Please Sales, give me a chance to play what I've got first, I'm begging you! :D

Sales will certainly get more interesting as Proton (compatibility) matures and the whitelist gets longer. I will always buy Linux native first but I'm certainly not against buying some very appealing Windows only games(*). Especially as there are quite a lot we'll never get ports for and as they tend to be "old" games, there'll be some good bargains to be had.

Edit: (*) For clarity: played via Proton, I have had no Win partition for many years.

Game developer revokes a user's Steam key after negative review

Quoting: EhvisI'm not saying there shouldn't be an option to have keys revoked that were not legally paid. But the dev there's no reason for a dev to be able to do that on their own.
And who else if not dev? Valve? How would Valve be able to recognize valid request? Most likely there is very specific TOS and agreement between dev and Valve how to use this feature and Valve will only intervene if abuse happens. This mistake was fixed rather quickly, so we did not have a chance to see how would it played out.

Yes, Valve and the valid request would come from the dev. The dev should not be able to revoke a Steam key by himself without first justifying it to Valve.

Quoting: SamsaiI'm not sure what to tell you. RimWorld is a game that can easily suck you in and not let go for a good while. So be prepared to use up your game time if you decide to have a crack at it. :P

Well I can be a right sucker and I can't see me not committing fully as I normally do... so you're probably right!

Quoting: fabertaweI had a 20% off coupon on Steam for this today. I may end up getting it but found the last one (two?) just too hard as the game progressed, even on the easiest difficulty.

Loved the first game though.

I also consider them very hard.

Yet, I like that as too many games are just TOO easy these days imho.
I read an article from a game designer that argued this is a general
trend as todays gamers tend to give up too quickly and, hence,
stop playing (and buying) these games.

If a game's too easy then it's difficulty levels have not been implemented properly. The default should be what the programmer thinks is good for their average player. Then good players can up it if they want and useless noobs like me can set it waaaaaay down :D

Valve just put out another (smaller) Steam Play beta version

Quoting: wolfyrionBut still upcoming AAA Games are not available in Linux.
This is the major problem.
Gamers want to play NEWLY just released games not a year later.

I don't This may be a generational thing or just me but I like the later ports which include all bug fixes and DLC.

And of course all AAA newly released games would be full price. Obviously it would be nice to have the option but personally I'm very happy with the state of Linux gaming.

Same as edenist, this one sounds great.

I've lately been playing the sort of games I've shied away from and while it's great that it's expanded my horizons I've also got the problem where my limited game time will have to be spread even thinner! Maybe I should whizz through games faster instead of dawdling on each one and I might get a bit further into my backlog.

Quoting: kirkgunThis game appeals to me, but I shouldn't bother since I only have keyboard/mouse. Is that correct?

I play with mouse and keyboard and it's great.

Quoting: scaineWell, fabertawe seemed to enjoy it on keyboard and mouse, but I can't vouch for the experience personally.

I've had a look and one rotation around the ship with the mouse activates the spin. I should really pay more attention as this is very handy for collecting stars :O
