Review: Bound By Flame on Linux

The trailer looks great. Trouble is I've never come across this one until now and now the sale is over I'll have to pick it up another time.

For the first time in a while I didn't buy any games in the sales, I have so many backed up waiting to be played!

I backed this... back when I actually backed Kickstarters. Lesson learnt. Could be a long wait yet.

Sunday Section: What Was Your Biggest Linux Gaming Letdown So Far This Year?

I've not really experienced a big letdown personally, unless I include Dead Island's initial failings (totally unplayable) but that was fixed eventually and I ended up really enjoying it.

My only other gripe (at this point!) is unoptimised/buggy releases in general. Someone else mentioned the disparity in performance between the Linux and Windows releases, for example.

I could post a lot more enthusiastically about all the good ports/releases I've thoroughly enjoyed ^_^

Alien: Isolation Released For Linux, Prepare Your Spare Pants, Port Report, Review & Sale
28 October 2015 at 2:55 pm UTC

I've got an incredibly annoying problem which I've not seen reported by anyone else!

Horizontal mouse movement just stops dead, as if i'd stopped moving the mouse. I'm trying to turn and it won't go any further. If I repeatedly move the mouse back and forth it will start working again after a couple of seconds and I'm able to continue the turn. It makes the game unplayable. GTX 970 (355.11), i7 4790k.

I'll fiddle with it a bit and report back. Any ideas would be most welcome, thanks!

Edit: Forgot to mention I'm using a G-Sync monitor @ 144 Hz. 1920x1080.

Update: After much messing around with refresh rates and various other settings it turned out to be my WM, Compiz! No such problem with JWM. I normally game from Compiz (i.e. Shadow Of Mordor) and have zero issues but it's only a simple keypress to switch WM (even whilst running Alien Isolation, which made it obvious), so no biggie in the end.

p.s. Lovely game... I've yet to meet the alien though!

I'm not one for platformers normally but this really does look fun with a capital F... or "Fun" in that case (no pun intended). I can see myself playing this on the TV with the Steam controller.

As an alternative to specifying how much was spent on games what about just a distinction between individually bought games and bundles? The biggest disparity must surely be there. I tend to think, rightly or wrongly, of a bundle as a single game purchase.

I probably paid more for Shadow Of Mordor than the previous two bundles combined (I don't tend to pay much for bundles I'm not that interested in or which only include one or two Linux games).
