Dying Light Linux Performance Patch & New DLC Released
27 May 2015 at 7:41 am UTC
I was looking forward to this but I'm not going anywhere near it until these issues are sorted out.
I never thought I'd be in the situation where I have so many great games backed up that I could be picky on Linux... actually "picky" is the wrong word, this (any) game shouldn't have been released in a broken state, period.

Quoting: d10sfanHopefully Techland isn't done and that they are still working on patches.

This is a game I'd like but I'm holding off until these various issues are addressed. I'm still getting freezes in Dead Island and it looks like I may have to just put up with that... that's not right and I'm not going to spend money on Dying Light (or any other game from now on for that matter) if it's not working properly (good enough, isn't... good enough - for me or my money).
Aspyr - Borderlands 2 and all DLC, what perfect porting Now there's a good benchmark. There are others too, of course but I've sunk many hours into that one and it's been nothing but a joy for me, zero issues, so worth mentioning.
Looks like we have enough quality games coming through to be picky and let's be honest, I can't afford them all anyway :P
Thanks for all these updates Liam, it's great to have GOL!

Well there's actually a change in response this month from me - my trusty old Phenom X4 died and I've replaced it with a 4790K. My first Intel CPU for many, many years. I think the last one I had was running at about 300MHz!
I had to tick quite a few boxes for those upcoming games I plan to get... just don't tell my wallet or the wife

Dead Island Patch Released For Linux, Finally Playable (Updated)

Thanks for the feedback. Seems odd why some (lots?) have no crashes. I'm running with no DE, so pretty much stripped down, I'd have thought the Steam runtime should be pretty consistent for everyone anyway.
Shame, I like the game and could really get into it given the chance.

Quoting: GuestSame here, after a few minutes (randomly) I’ll get either a freeze or a crash (assert(m_pOvr)), also on Arch and with a GTX660, but I think on Steam people with different distros have the same issue.

I can't play this game for constant random freezes/crashes. It can be anywhere from 10 seconds to 20 minutes but it WILL go down, every time guaranteed, requiring me to kill the terminal I launch it in or kill the xserver.
I'm using a GTX 660 with the proprietary drivers on Arch. Anyone experiencing this or got any pointers?
Cheers.

250/322, 70% not played! I think I've become as much a collector as a player... or should that be a hoarder?
I've definitely lost interest in games I would have snapped up when Steam first landed. I could never have imagined the choice available now and this is only the beginning :D

Steam Hardware Survey For February 2015
9 March 2015 at 9:15 am UTC
Yep, I got used to just running it a second time.
I think I've had the survey twice under Linux and I've run it most days since we've had the client. When I was playing games through Wine I had it regularly... and I wasn't even using Wine very often!

Quoting: neffoIs anyone else getting that weird bug where Steam doesn't restart after an update?

Torchlight II Now On Linux, Old News By A Day, But Here’s My Report

Very odd... it would account for why nobody else has mentioned it. I definitely get no audio unless I emulate pulseaudio though apulse though Thanks for replying Stan.
EDIT: yes, you guessed it... it's working now Can I blame the Gremlins on this or should I blame the berk in front of the keyboard? :P
p.s. the game's lovely but a little complicated for me at the moment... I'm getting there though!

Quoting: GuestQuoting: fabertaweI'm assuming the game assumes pulseaudio only as I get no audio when running this game on Arch Linux. I'm not using any DE and my audio output is via ALSA.Works for me under Arch with ALSA. That, or systemd installed pulseaudio without asking me.

I was going to build my own Steam Machine but will probably go with a pre-built solution, mainly to support the effort and also because I'm probably too inert
Looks like Valve have been delaying in order to bring the whole package together... I definitely want the controller and the VR headset is interesting me greatly too... and possibly the Steam Link... hang on, that's the whole lot ;)
I agree with what Segata said previously about the pricing though, Valve should be putting out their own range, low, mid and high and sucking up the loss on hardware to get wider adoption and market penetration.
Very exciting times.
