Wow, didn't expect that. I know ck helps with desktop responsiveness generally but I didn't think it could make much of a difference in this sort of case.
Well you're heading in the right direction anyway! Happy gaming :D

And there's me thinking everything favoured Intel CPUs! I've always bought AMD CPUs purely because they've been better value for money (so far anyway - and always ones that aren't the latest, so reduced in price also).
As regards "ondemand" - I have up_threshold at 30 and "performance" is still noticeably zippier on the desktop (at least). Changing the governor is very trivial anyway. I'm running kernel 3.13.6-1-ck at the moment but this shouldn't be a factor.
Looking at the link you posted, there shouldn't be such a difference between our systems but at least you can play it :D SS3 Jewel Of The Nile was fun as well.

That's just bonkers - I'm Arch 64 as well.
I'm not very familiar with Xfce (even though I put it on my wife's laptop!), when you say you killed Compton did you try another WM or just turn off compositing? It might be worth trying Metacity as a test, I know that works fine here too.

I thought I'd go back and check the frame rates as I'd finished this game last summer with a GTX 460.
I'm now on a GTX 660 and the frame rates are definitely higher, up over 100 in some parts but it's not at all smooth and quite glitchy. I certainly remember it being smoother.

Bought this so long ago I can't remember! My Win partition's been gone a good while but was waiting on the native version anyway.
Download speed's not the best today but I've waited this long... :D

Sir, You Are Being Hunted Updated With New NPC & Better AI

It's still my favourite game and has been totally playable since the first "alpha". Every time there's an update it's usually introduced new biomes and/or NPCs and gives it a new lease of life every time.
The last update introduced the last NPC to come in (The Landowner) and I believe the only major new additions left are the Castle biome and multiplayer. An NPC config file has also been made editable but eventually just about everything will be tunable from the game's settings.
I've put quite a few hours in on this and it's been incredible value for money for me. The aim of the game is to collect all the "mysterious fragments" but personally I never collect any fragments and just "survive" in the world, it's so beautiful! Highly recommended.

I realise lots of children play games but can you not call people mentally retarded and autistic as it's pathetic and offensive.
Free Valve Games For Debian Developers

Deja vu Shmerl ;)
What Kristian said. How is logging into Steam to download a game any different to firing up the browser and logging into my Humble account. Steam's easier for me and more convenient. Unless you want to psychically download the game with your mind or by magic (which also involves firing up your wand) then you're going to have to download it with something by logging in somewhere! And if it's a free download then you won't have to use Steam anyway.
As for the games - that's up to the game dev. Complain to them. I have backups of all releases of "Sir You Are Being Hunted" which all run from wherever they're backed up to without Steam running. It's that simple.

Quoting: Quote from KristianQuoting: Quote from ShmerlI wasn't talking about Steamworks lock-in, which developers can avoid if they wish. It's bad of course. I was talking about requiring to run the client and connecting to the service to install the game. It's step 1 DRM, and no, Steam offers no packages outside the service. Sometimes you can manually copy stuff and reuse, but that's not an official support when the service provides a package (like HB and GOG do). Therefore I consider Steam to be always DRMed.
To clarify, it's not about a burden of logging in anywhere. It's about an ability to install (from a backup for example) and run the game without the service.
Using certain software to manage downloads and installation !=DRM. Using Steam to download a game doesn't mean it is DRMed even if it can only be downloaded that way. If a developer decided to only upload their DRM free game as a torrent you would HAVE to use a torrent client to download a game, that wouldn't make the game any less DRM free. In the case of DRM free games on Steam, Steam is simply a download manager. A game is DRM free independent of its delivery method. A developer could decide to sell usernames and passwords to a FTP server as its only delivery method and it would still be DRM free. With the games that are DRM free on Steam you can take the files Steam provides you and back them up and/or create installers and/or packages from those files that you could then proceed to install on any computer you want to. You could do this with any DRM free game on Steam including for example HL2(Yes it is DRM free I checked my self).
