Hunt: Showdown 1896 broke on Linux / Steam Deck, here's the quick fix for now

Quoting: dpanterOnly use Proton Experimental for the edge cases where something isn't working properly, like this one. There's already a fix and it'll be merged into stock Proton as necessary, making Hotfix version the current proper choice for this specific game at this point in time. Once merged, change back to stock Proton.

Do not use Experimental as default or as a permanent choice. It cannot be overstated or repeated enough times. Come on people.

Wait what... I always use experimental and haven't ran into issues. If i would then i would switch to normal proton for said game, but running experimental has been fine and its nice to have latest and greatest improvements....now bleeding edge experimental is entirely different topic ofc.

edit: i mean each their own, but experimental stable channel is just fine.. newer releases usually work the best with it before the fixes get into hotfix or into stable.. in rare cases where regressions happen, its not hard to switch to stable then for that game.

Signed yesterday. Hope it really works out. At least we can try!
Super easy to sign with the eID also and it only checks if you are valid citizen, not your other info.

560.28.03 seems to work as good as 555.58 .. no issues to report. well except i haven't tried with firmware enabled yet. But yeah.. no complaints. X11 though.

Proton Experimental gets fixes for Farlight 84, Shadow Warrior 2, video improvements for 32bit games
7 July 2024 at 4:52 am UTC

Ahh nice. so Farlight 84 doesn't require GE-Proton and WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 anymore
The game is starting to die though, just around 2000 players playing now. Used to be like around 10k few months ago iirc.

Just bought the game today. And its F**king awesome!
It's kinda like Half-Life 2 + F.E.A.R. + Boomer Shooter
Subtle hints about new things like in valve games, before those mechanics start to be thrown at you. Physics Puzzles and very good level design
Enemy AI is similar to F.E.A.R. They flank you and rush you or go into hiding at times. Level design allows nice flanking also for the most part.
and the Gunplay is just amazing. The best Shotgun I ever seen/heard in FPS games :)

Just around 3 hours in atm. Retro Visuals look super nice also. Runs like a dream also without even taxing the system at all

Gunplay looks kinda bad (not awful ofc) from that gameplay trailer. And i hope there's no QTE stuff like seen on the trailer.
Other than that. the World looks nice. Lets hope it will be good game without any major bugs on launch.

NVIDIA release 550.90.07 stable and 555.52.04 Beta drivers for Linux

I just don't understand how so many people have issues with nvidia drivers. Like crashing the computer. This hasn't happened for like 10 years at least for me.. I dont use optiums stuff though. Ohh and im still on X11 ofc.
Even if the driver crashes, then it doesnt take the system down but recovers the drivers. I remember having few issues with 525 drivers where some games crashed the gpu driver, but it always just recovered without system crash.

Anyway. Been running the 555 drivers since their release (updated to 555.52.04). No issues to report except the firmware thats loaded by default causing frametime skips, but disabling it with nvidia.NVreg_EnableGpuFirmware=0 gets the issue resolved. Cant see any fixes on that in the updated drivers, so i guess thats still an issue. I have reported that to nvidia and send them nvidia-bugreport, so they are at least aware of thatone.
