The End Is Nigh could be on the way to Linux

Quoting: abelthorneThat's interesting and quite unexpected, as the developer of TEiN said that he wouldn't make a Linux port (he's not a big fan of the OS, to say it lightly). It's good news if he's open to a third-party port.

Quoting: bythecloudsWouldn't hurt to mention that this is a McMillen game (yes, the guys behind Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac, the games that have a lot of following). So it's a really big deal for the fans of their games (who I count myself among). Don't really see the need for downplaying it TWICE in the article.

So, the makers of Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac wanted to stop supporting Linux? :-/
Well, they've never had a strong interest in Linux −TBoI and SMB were only ported as part of a Humble Indie Bundle first, though they later made a proper port of TBoI Rebirth− but more important, it's not the same team on each game.

Edmund McMillen only does the art part and game design of his games, he's not really a developer (though I think he made the original version of TBoI in Flash). Tommy Refenes was the coder on SMB and it's Tyler Glaiel who coded The End is Nigh (and said on Twitter that there would be no Linux version).

Quoting: sr_ls_boyIt looks like it has CRT-emulation.
The screenshot in the article shows one of the mini-games available in the game itself. They're supposed to be console games the character plays, thus the big pixels and the CRT emulation effect. ;)

The main game doesn't have this filter.

No, the Mac version has been made by the developer (it was planned from the start). But he didn't want to do a Linux port because there's too much support to do afterwards.

HITMAN will have the first location available completely free later today

Ok, I now see a demo button and it's downloading stuff (6 GB, will take a while). I didn't expect this free content to be treated as a demo, I thought they'd make it a similar way as Life is Strange (as someone already pointed out).

Not that it really matters as it's mainly to see how well (or bad) it runs on my PC.

I don't see where to download the free version on Steam, there's only the episodes bundle. Is it not live yet (it should be according to the time given in the article) or am I missing something there?

Ballistic Overkill updated as promised with Vulkan, but it's now completely broken (UPDATED with temp fix)

Quoting: jd117faeria is having similar issues as well, does any of you guys now a fix in faeria case?

It's likely the exact same fix as this game. You can probably find the prefs for the game in:
.config/unity3d/[Company Name]/[Game Name]/prefs
Yep: it's in ~/.config/unity3d/Abrakam/Faeria

You have to set the "Screenmanager Is Fullscreen mode" option to 0 and set the resolution you want(for ScreenManager too, not the other resolution options).

That's not exactly a big spoiler...

Save the grubs!

QuoteOne memorable moment for me was near the start, after doing some exploring I came to an area where I could hear crying. Upon further exploration I found what looked like some sort of grub, sat in what appeared to be an egg, the only grub left and it was just sat inside, crying.
Are you talking about the small green caterpillar-like critters trapped inside glass jars? You have to save them! Break the glass and they'll return happily to their village that you'll encounter not too far from the start.

Ubuntu now has a more official PPA to get Mesa updates

Quoting: calexilcurrently this breaks vlc, in case you use that.
probably wanna stick on pkppa until Timo fixes it
Just discovered this too, which is quite an issue on Ubuntu MATE (the version I use), as it's the default video player and removal might have removed some metapackages. Back to Padoka's.

Quoting: PompesdeskyI guess this is also available on Ubuntu based distros like Mint ? And for someone (like me) currently using padokka ppa it should be removed first before adding the new Ubuntu ppa ?
If you can use Padoka's PPA on Mint, you can use this one also, though I'd recommend staying on Padoka's because of the packaging issue (isn't VLC part of Mint's default packages?).

Anyway, if you want to try, you definitely have to properly remove Padoka's PPA first:
1) sudo ppa-purge ppa:paulo-miguel-dias/pkppa to remove it
2) reboot
3) sudo apt-get autoremove --purge to remove the orphan dependancies
4) follow the instructions of the article to add the Ubuntu X PPA
