Valve released a stable Steam Client update yesterday, some nice fixes in for Linux and Steam Play

From what I understand, the way one of Steam's scripts is written makes it impossible for the distro maintainer to fix this. Arch maintainers offered a simple fix, but the Steam developers would not accept it because they don't want to appear to endorse the "native runtime" approach.

Related only to Arch based packing. Should be fixed by package maintainer in Arch but from what I see valve trying to fix it despite the fact that it is not their plot.

Quoting: MaathNow, didn't they say the console itself is more powerful than an Xbox and a PS4 combined? Do they need all of that power just for streaming? Perhaps the console will be able to run programs locally.I was under the impression that it would not be a console, but just a controller which works with a computer/smart phone or ChromeCast and a cloud platform.

Renting a movie DRM free would mean you could download the movie, copy it to other devices to watch it, and even watch it later. It would be breaching the contract to watch it after the renting period, but there would not be a system to prevent it.
So if Stadia were DRM free, you would be able to download the game and copy it to other devices to play it, and even play it after the renting period.

So just like how Linux is the most used system to run web servers today, it may become the most used system to run games.

Quoting: throghWow, another one goes there and let's celebrate that an open-source game is distributed throughout a proprietary platform. Wait what? Sounds like an error? Yes, it is. But nothing more to say, celebrate whatever you want, making your local distribution to another copycat of Windows, full of more proprietary services. Nothing learned! You don't have to get it through Steam. The game has supported Windows and Mac for a long time too, and you don't have to play it on those platforms. An open source game being successful on a proprietary platform is an improvement over only having proprietary games on that proprietary platform.

I recommend trying Soulcaster I and II. I played them a while ago and don't have them installed any more, and I don't remember much except that they were fun and tower-defense-like games.

I loved Hammerwatch but I suck at dodging, so "persistent heroes" sounds great!

The Linux version seems buggy for some people including me right now, and requires setting launch options or editing a configuration file to play. Also, the game said the expansion was "coming soon". I hope they'll fix the problems soon because it's normally a fun and polished game.
Linux gamers on Arch may want to hold off on updating due to openssl breaking some games (updated)

Quoting: STiAT<caugh>..openssl-1.0 is not enough because it just installs libssl.so etc in /usr/lib/openssl-1.0/. So if a game link to libssl.so.1.0.0 (most of the case) it won't work, and if it links to libssl.so, you still need to use LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/openssl-1.0
sudo pacman -Sy openssl-1.0
