Quoting: "liamdawe, post: 2626"The only problem I currently have with unity is how to edit menu entries, as with gnome you just use alacarte, someone on ubuntu forum tried to explain how to edit unity items but it seemed very long winded and not worth the bother :(

Assuming you are using 11.10 that may actual have more to do with Gnome 3 than Unity, as they changed how launchers and menu entries are handled to make them more systematic.

There is at least one project to make a menu editor that works with the new system, but I am not sure how complete it is:
https://github.com/efruchter/Gnome3_AppMenuEditor

That is unless Ubuntu decided to break spec again and endeavour their own way of handling it.

Well, here they are, the first shots of my new Fedora 16 system! Play a drum-roll if you please? :p

Here is a shot of my initial desktop under GNOME Shell, slightly modified through the use of the Tweak Tool and some packaged Extensions, using the default Adwaita theme and Faenza icons:
[

Unfortunately, even though I was getting quite comfortable with GNOME Shell and was busily getting my new system setup, as of this moment GNOME 3 and Zaphod Mode just do not get along. Upon restoring my old Xorg.conf from my Fedora 13 system, GDM reverted to its old theme (GDM needs a Fallback mode as well?) and upon logging in instead of being presented with my old desktop, or indeed any desktop, I just got a message saying that I was kicked into Fallback mode and a buggered display. Strangely, even though the Fallback mode is just the old GNOME Panel and a Metacity session, it also fails to work even though GNOME 2 itself did.

As I need to use Zaphod Mode as it is the only real way one can have a dual head setup and still routinely play full screen games, I decided I would install XFCE and give it a try again. To it's credit XFCE has improved a lot over the past few years, with my only real complaints being against Thunar, as it is not nearly as good at Nautilus at desktop handling or indeed simple file management. Still, it is workable and I was able to get it configured to mirror quite closely my old Fedora 13 system.

Here is a shot of my XFCE desktop once again using the Faenza icon theme as well as the third-party Adwaita Elements theme to provide a consistent look to both GTK2 and GTK3 applications:

Still have a lot of work to do getting my games reinstalled and getting all of my various files and backups across the network consolidated on my new 2 Terabyte hard drive, but it is a start. :D

Here is another shot of my Fedora 16 XFCE desktop after further tweaking and use:

[

Note the growing list of games on the desktop, which does not even count the ones I have installed through Desura, except for AlienArena which for some reason will not launch right from the Desura launcher.
