Modern Linux Patches for id Software Classics
Avehicle7887 Aug 11, 2015
Posted this on GOG earlier, reposting it here.

I've decided to revisit the id Software games and created some updated patches with as much out of the box features as possible. All of the patches have been thoroughly tested on an Ubuntu 14.04 and Linux Mint 17 installations with the closed source Nvidia drivers (Should also work with AMD & Intel GPUs), you are not required to install any dependencies before hand either.

DRM-Free: These patches are built from open source code and can be perfectly ran offline in your bunker (wouldn't be posting this even they were not). :-)

Unfortunately Steam is the best choice right now, it's also the version they have been tested on (unless noted), CD/DVD versions will work too but I haven't tried those.

1) Doom 3 & Resurrection of Evil Expansion (NOT BFG Edition): http://store.steampowered.com/app/9050/
2) Return to Castle Wolfenstein: http://store.steampowered.com/app/9010/

Installation of patches - extract the archive in the game's folder (overwrite/replace anything if asked) and run the 'start.sh' file, it's simple as that.

Doom 3:

32Bit Download Link: doom3-linux-1.3.1.1304.x86.tar.xz
64Bit Download Link: doom3-linux-1.3.1.1304.x86_64.tar.xz

Known Issues:

- None

~ Return to Castle Wolfenstein:

32Bit Download Link: iortcw-1.42b-linux-x86.tar.xz
64Bit Download Link: iortcw-1.42b-linux-x86_64.tar.xz

Known Issues:

- Due to incompatibilities with the Ubuntu Unity desktop environment, the game cannot be launched in full screen, the closest you'll get at full screen is something like this.

Launch the game once to generate the settings file, you'll get a black screen and hit Alt+F4 to close it, now go to your home folder > enable "show hidden files" > open ".wolf/main/wolfconfig.cfg", edit out these 3 lines:

seta r_allowResize from "0" to "1"
seta r_noborder from "0" to "1"
seta r_fullscreen must be "0"

Should you have any questions please ask. :-)

Quoting: TheReaperUKThanks, I'll test the Doom 3 sometime tomorrow, as steam version is BFG Edition so i'll need to find my disc version.

Update: used crossover to install and patch Doom 3 then moved Doom 3 Folder and applied your Doom 3 linux port/patch, worked great from first click of start.sh, did have to locate the folder with the config file so i could force custom rez of 1920x1080, so now its running spot on, thanks for the port.

Didn't port it myself, I simply packed it so it's easy to install for everyone, but thanks. Glad to hear it's working well for you. :-)

I found this download steam windows games in Linux ignore the python script & go straight to manual, it works perfectly to get the data for Doom3 without having to use Wine based installs if you don't have a dvd copy & as long as you own the game on Steam of course.
