For this benchmarks you should use the Nvidia 358.16 and the the last Kernel 4.3.0 in Linux side.
On Windows the latest Nvidia driver (No Beta).

I refer as SteamOS more to the GUI. Independently of what was underneath. My bad if that's incorrect.

Well, you can take the opposite way: get a Jessie minimal install, add steamos-compositor + steamos-modeswitch-inhibitor (and some other specific steamos packages if you like) and you'll end up with a sort of SteamOS which can be used to experiment with various drivers and kernels.
Indeed, what makes SteamOS different in terms of performance is (mainly) the custom kernel and the window manager (steamcompmgr).
Actually that could be quite interesting to compare vanilla SteamOS and custom ones :)
