So let me start off by saying that I actually found this game boring at first. Not that I didn't enjoy it, I just wasn't absolutely blown away. I felt the game was overhyped.
Despite this, I still couldn't put it down. It would start to feel repetitive, and then BOOM! Another character. And I'm like,"Hey, I know them!". And then I'm enjoying myself again. Every time a level ended with a note about how many rescues I had before the next unlock, I just had to keep playing until I did.
On top of that, the game was constantly catching me off guard with references and jokes and over the top antics. That moment everything paused and I witnessed the life story of a random suicider, who then fell off a platform and exploded. That moment I realized that you could hijack those indestructible battle suits, and they freaking FLY! That level where you have to keep freezing time because the entire level completely falls apart in about 3 seconds.
But everything has just been trumped. I finally reached the level inspired by the Aliens franchise. At first, I was excited. I had heard about this part some time ago and had been looking forward to it. The first area to introduce them was standard fare. Infiltrate enemy territory, fight through a horde of enemies, and finally assassinate the, HOLY CRAP! ALIENS! I instantly perked up and started having a blast! The aliens were perfect: somewhat cute while still menacing, an actual threat and not just fodder, and my god the way they exploded, acid pouring everywhere. I was impressed.
Then I actually got to THE level. Ellen Ripbro vs the alien horde. Was it fun? Exciting? Everything I had dreamed of? Let me just say this: I had to stop playing because I couldn't breathe. I was hyperventilating. Because I was screaming at my TV. And laughing meniacly. And bouncing around on my couch. My hand started cramping up. My head started hurting from my pulse pounding so hard. It took me almost twenty minutes to calm down. I have never in my life been so overwhelmed by playing a game. The aliens just kept coming, and I just kept dying. From the freaking rocks! I'd be yelling as I my cramping hand was twitching madly on the fire button, mowing down aliens, acid flying everywhere. I'd cheer as I defeated the giant alien, only to be immediately crushed by a rock! That would get me laughing. Which caused me to start hyperventilating. Which all left me a twitching, out breath mess.
There have been points in this game that were difficult. I found them tedious and frustrating, but I never quit. I always finished the level I started, unless I simply got called away for something. But this level was to much. I might try again tomorrow, but for now I'm going to get some sleep.
I hope someone finds this amusing and/or helpful.
