Thousands of C64 games can be played directly in the browser
KuJo Oct 16, 2018
Not quite in the range "Linux" ... but also under Linux there are browsers. :)

The Internet Archive has now provided several thousand C64 games directly playable in the browser. The whole thing is realized by a browser variant of VICE, the best known C64 emulator I think is also available for our OS.

So if someone gets bored or needs some nostalgic pushes - this way:

This is part of a really exciting undertaking at archive.org, led by Jason Scott. It's not only the C64 -- they have webassembly builds of several emulators for 8 & 16 bit systems (powered by the MAME project) on the site. It's a full scale software preservation effort. Here are some talks by Jason Scott, explaining in detail what's going on at the archive:

One caveat, though, is that they're currently concentrating on gathering software, not necessarily making it function *perfectly* inside the browser. Admittedly I haven't been on the site for a couple of months now, but the last time I tried, pretty basic stuff like disk swapping didn't work -- this limits the functionality of the in-browser emulators to a large extent, but note that you can always just download the disk images, and work with them on your local emulator.
