Antimicro - A keyboard to controller program you might like
Avehicle7887 Jan 29, 2019
The recent Bluetooth Gamepad article covered by user 'LordDaveTheKind' made me dig up my shabby controller and try to make better use of it other than collecting dust (gracefully pictured at the bottom).

I got this gamepad for free before it was about to be thrown away, mind you it was new in box but very useless to the owner. For the longest of time it wouldn't work on any game I try it, the only game where it actually worked as expected was with the game "Sundered".

So today I began searching for a program which would hopefully map keyboard keys to it, lo and behold I came across Antimicro, a program that does just that, Homepage (and source): https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro

I have to say I'm impressed how simple and well this program is made. Upon launching it, it will present you with a tabbed list of attached controllers, their buttons and axis. Pressing any of the buttons will highlight to indicate which one is which. Once you're done setting you can save the config to a file. Finally, you can also have multiple configurations, for different games.

As far as compatibility goes, I've tried this on a number of native Linux games (Hollow Knight and GoNNER) as well as under Wine such as Shantae, Darksiders 2 and Ghost of a Tale.

Thanks to this program this basic gamepad now has a purpose. However it is unfortunate that development kinda stopped at the end of 2016 with the last commit being 25th March 2017. Regardless, it's still a very good piece of software and I've been able to compile it under Debian 9 without hassle.

I hope this is of help to someone being in a similar position.

Quoting: GuestSee jstest-gtk. Steam has game controller settings and You can modify the ~/.steam/steam/config/config.vdf file for analog triggers.

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into jstest. As for the other suggestion, I don't use Steam but from what I've seen it has good tools for controllers. :)
