A crazy idea

A craz idea hit me.
I was watching a video about intrusive anti cheat systems in games.
And thought of something.
Windows supports running linux in a vm , no ?
Why not take a distro (say debian) , remove the apps you don't need , bundle in the game and make sure it talks encrypted to the servers.
You could boot the VM to play.
No files on player PC means no need for intrusive anti cheat.
This is assuming you can limit access to the vm correctly.

What do you think ? (maybe i did have some beer before thinking this up :P )

This won't stop you from writing a farming bot with a tool like xdotool in RPGs. Or writing macros for your keyboard or mouse to click some keys super fast in a shooter.

True , bots would still be an issue.
Clicking too fast might be detected though. But i have heard of innocent players being banned.
My idea kinda came up when i saw some of these anti cheats were border line rootkits.
True - i use linux and it doesn;t affect me , but still , crappy thing for gaming overall.

Sadly, this will only stop when gamers stop accepting potential malware and rootkits on their PCs, so, like, never? Until then, no one is going to invest time and money into sophisticated privacy and security friendly anti cheats.

Another way to make a "good" anti cheat is to make it FOSS. Though it needs to be really of high quality, since many of those we have now rely on closed code and would be useless if their code is published.
