TransGaming - Sims for Linux

Hi

I'm not a fan of Wine and other related projects. However, many users believe that Proton is the solution for Linux.

I saw this video on YouTube about the first game that used Wine (WineX) which was Sims for Linux. Later, TransGaming published the whole series of games Kohan that also used WineX - it was a commercial failure:

I have to admit it was the first time when I saw the logo of TransGaming in a game. From my perspective, it's terrifying and weird at the same time. I had been using a Cedega for a few months. It was much better than Wine back then, and I still couldn't think about it as the replacement for Windows.

Cool find!

I do remember WineX and their big claim to fame with supporting The Sims. They must have been doing something right, because it took ages for Wine to support that game - I'm still not sure how well it works today.

Also fun to see Mandrake 8. It was the first distribution I ran as a dual boot. It was actually working a bit too well for me. I wanted more of a challenge to be able to learn all the nuts and bolts of Linux so I eventually ditched it for Slackware!

I remember that Sims didn't work with the standard version of WineX which was weird.

You were a lucky user because I tried to use Mandrake 10.0 in 2004 - it was too buggy,

Did you buy Kohan published by Loki Software or the Kohan games published by TransGaming?
