Ark Survival - No more native builds
Photon Jul 10, 2022
Looks like we lost another native game. The developers appear to have pulled the plug on Ark for Linux (maybe due to Battleeye). I know a lot of people had better luck with running it in Proton but the Native version always worked quite well for me. One official post mentions you can still switch to the Linux 'Legacy' branch for native but it doesn't work for me. I'm not sure I want to bother with the 140gb Windows binaries download.

Yeah the windows version game size is huge, but its well worth it compared to native.. The native worked, but it had lots of issues. running in proton is completely different experience in that regard. Native even didnt have directional audio sorted out so you couldnt even pinpoint by sound where the enemies are etc.

Actually I tried the Windows version previously and I wouldn't say it was completely different at all. There may have been some minor things that worked better like the audio but overall I didn't see that much of a difference in later builds.

If I were still playing ARK (which I enjoyed very much at the time) this news would have been very upsetting. But since I only play open source games these days, it would be pretty unlikely for anything to "pull the plug" on me.
