Later that night you install your freshly acquired bundle and test out each individual game for no longer than 10 minutes. A few hours of joy are had and most of the games are never played again.
Rules: share what games you’re playing, what non-gaming activities you’re entertaining this upcoming week.

The hunt for the most tenacious tenement continues. I'm cutting it awfully close but nothing has really sparked me as a good move for my money and all the advice I keep getting is "only rent if you love it". I guess we'll see what happens come the 31st ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I have a fallback plan already in place ;).
I have been playing a teeny tiny bit of of Loop Hero which didn't install too well on Manjaro + KDE and the Lutris script just installs the Linux binary...fine. So I took the next hour to research, test, and write the Lutris script for Loop Hero WINE. This cut into game time though and only so my experience was short lived but so far so good. An "enjoyable" auto-adventurer where you modify the game, enemies, odds, and items by placing cards. In return you may increase your resource gain for upgrades. Lots of looping, it's great!
I've also managed to crack into a Kero Blaster which has been silly fun so far. In many ways feels like the lost levels of Cave Story.
All of that aside this is the last time my PC will be set-up until I land a place...and I wasn't even bumped into Q3 for my Steam Deck yet. :( So it's other games and devices to mash away at instead. Until next time!

There's more of Bomberman on my GPD Win Max 2021 this weekend. However, this one's an extra-special pick for me.

I'm convinced that he isn't getting any work done this time.
Though I was away from PC-gaming "proper" for a long time, emulation has nevertheless been the backbone of my gaming-on-PCs experience for over 20 years, and my main pick for this weekend represents my first steps with Sega Saturn emulation. I'm super-excited about this, because I've had to wait for such an incredibly long time for it to be in a good place! Though there are many myths about the system's architecture not being designed for this/that/the-other (none true - it was designed to be multi-purpose and was basically rushed and clumsily-implemented), the sad fact of the matter was that the system was botched and mishandled from the outset and ended up largely unloved by most enthusiasts, which had the knock-on effect of Saturn emulation lagging far behind that of Sony PlayStation and Nintendo 64 emulation for a long time.
As an aside, if anyone else is curious about Saturn emulation, make sure that you check out Beetle Saturn/Mednafen Saturn (same thing - it's available in RetroPie/RetroArch as "lr-beetle-saturn"). I initially tried out Yabause ("Yet Another Broken And Uncomplete Saturn Emulator") because it was a well-known name from many years ago, and ended up with a rough first impression because it's now outdated and very incompatible, but a quick bit of research pointed me in the direction of Beetle Saturn, which has handled everything that I've thrown at it so far. Delighted!

Of course, it's the well-regarded Saturn Bomberman that I'll be playing this weekend. It's a joyful continuation of the structure of Bomberman '94 and Super Bomberman 3 (two of my favourite titles in the series), with an added ten-player mode modelled after that of 1993's Hi-Ten Bomberman - the world's first-ever HD video game and a showcase made for Hudson Soft's All-Japan Caravan Festival tours, which cost millions per-unit to make. The Japanese version of Saturn Bomberman was also the first Bomberman game to feature online play, but this was done over a dial-up service exclusive to the Saturn and surely doesn't exist anymore!
I was always very fond of the Saturn because it welcomed both the old and new methods of game-creation from its time, whereas its competitors, whether by way of openly-stated policies or behind-the-scenes nudging, didn't do this as much. Of course, if you were a British fan you also had to be well-versed in the import scene (so beleaguered was the console here that the official UK Saturn magazine was even allowed to openly discuss imported software and the methods for running it!), and this played a big part in my interest in that, following right on from the SNES, a chunk of whose owners in the UK (and presumably elsewhere) also held the same mentality. I'm sure that it's no coincidence that a later Saturn revision in Japan was done up in colours that matched the (JP/PAL) SNES!
I'll also be continuing with Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy on my GPD MicroPC. I should hopefully get to finish the first of the three games this week.
Fun aside, I'll be doing some tech-support for an older relative this weekend - which I guess is just another kind of fun for me. First order of business will be fixing up a Macintosh that won't auto-update (something has broken its OS install, and Disk Utility is missing, which I presume is behind this somewhere along the line), which is of course a major issue given the recent security alert regarding MacOS. Second will be, per their request, setting up a Xubuntu dual-boot on a 16-year-old MacBook (the first Intel type), as they've thankfully finally conceded that it's dangerous to keep using such a machine without up-to-date software (they need Mac OS X to remain for some legacy stuff, though). I'm sure that we all know how resistance to updates can be in a generation who've often been mis-sold computers as appliances, which then go on to not get updated against all advice "in case it breaks something", in spite of my having suggested it and offered the same assistance every now and then in the past - I'm just glad that they've finally changed their mind, and I'm genuinely looking forward to sorting it out.

Even tho the weather is great I did not have a good morning tho..... At around 8:00am I went and put my shoes on to go for a walk..... And the shoelace snapped and sent my elbow straight into the brick wall behind me....... So after grabbibg my elbow and swearing like a trooper for a few minutes...... I tied the broken shoelace back together and then retied my shoe..... I stood up and went to tie up the draw string in my tracky dacks........ And that snapped too....... So I had to change my tracky dacks...... Which meant I had to take my shoes off...... Grrrrrrrrr...... So after much more swearing...... I did all that and changed into another pair of tracky dacks and tied the draw string up first this time(big brain time meme)...... Then went to tie up my shoelaces again...... This time the other shoelace snapped.... Sending the other elblow flying into the brick wall behind me....... After another 5mintes of grabbing my elbow and swearing like a sailor....... I fixed the laces and finally get out on a walk.......
I got home around 12:15pm...... Didnt walk all that time..... Theres a lot of stops so she can get pats from people as well as I do just a tiny little bit of talking......
Since the weather was so nice I decided to tempt fate and see if I could burn the house down and have a Great Aussie BBQ......... Steak, Sausages and Bacon OH MY!........ So i fired up the BBQ and cooked lunch...... The house survived and my stomach is full..... And now its time to add to the Weekend Play List thread
This week I have been doing alot of retro gaming on RetroArch as per usual...... Since the last thread I completed the following games for the first time.....
Console
-------
Streets of Rage 3 (1994 Sega) - Sega Mega Drive - Beat 'em up
Bare Knuckle III (English Patch) (1994 Sega) - Sega Mega Drive - Beat 'em up
Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 Sega) - Sega Mega Drive - Platformer
Super Castlevania IV (Uncensored v2.1) (1991 Konami) - Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Platformer
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels (1986 Nintendo) - Nintendo Entertainment System - Platformer
River City Ransom (1992 Technos) - Nintendo Entertainment System - Beat 'em up
Arcade
------
Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy (1994 SNK) - Beat 'em up - Neo Geo
The Cliffhanger Edward Randy (1990 Data East) - Action
Magical Cat Adventure (1993 Wintechno) - Platformer
Based solely on Penglings recommendation I also played
Blue's Journey (1991 Alpha Denshi) Arcade (Neo Geo)- Platformer
The 2 best games this week were - Super Castlevania IV would be my pick of the best game I played this week..... Really great game...... Nothing else to say about it.... Everyone already knows how great it is.....
And...... The Cliffhanger Edward Randy....... Its a really good fast paced action game...... Whip the crap out of stuff India Jones style while riding on top of speed boats, biplanes, jeeps, trucks and tanks........ Its really short but really worth a playthough......
The 2 worst worst games this week were - Sonic the Hedgehog..... Green Hill Zone is great and then its just pain.... Pure pain...... It goes from a really great feeling fast paced platformer to a slow precision platformer and Sonics movement does not lend itself well to precision platforming.... It was a real slog to get through the other zones....... And dont get started on the underwater sections...... ugh.....
And....... Top Hunter: Roddy & Cathy...... One word sums up this game...... BORING....... And that is the worst thing a video game can be....... BORING..... So few moves...... Such little enemy variety....... Its about 40-ish minutes long...... And I struggled so hard to finish it.....
This upcoming week..... Im going to continue on my Castlevania trip..... Next stop is Castlevania: Rondo of Blood......
Also contiue playing some Mario which the next game is Super Mario Bros. 3..... I am skipping over 2 since that was a reskin of another game and not a real Mario game.....
I also plan of playing some of the Contra console games..... I played the 2 Arcade games the other week..... So now its time to play the Console games..... Well the good ones at least.......
Speaking of Arcade games theres always plenty of them to play that I have never played before...... Ive got a long list of them actually.... So I will be going through of them......
I will actually try and play some Bomberland 64 this week..... I didnt get the time to do it last week... Sorry Pengling...... But I did play Blue's Journey that you recommended......
Spoiler, click me
Glad you enjoyed your time with the Saturn emulation.... Last time I did Saturn emulation I used the Kronos emulator..... I didnt play much Saturn..... I mostly played Keio Flying Squadron 2....... Hey im a male...... I cant say no to a game with a cute girl wearing a Playboy Bunny outfit....... I will have to give Beetle Saturn a go next time I do some Saturn emulation..... There are some great arcade ports of fighting games on the Saturn but most of the Arcade originals work fine on MAME...... So the urge to play Saturn games is not as strong as with other systems..... You might need to give me a list of worthwhile games to play
As for non gaming I will contiute to pound the treadmill which I have done everyday since the last thread..... Still doing the 6.5 Kangaroo Metres (4.0 Eagle Miles) in an hour....... The scales still say I havnt lost any weight yet but the keg continued to get a bit smaller when I measured it..... My dog has NOT been happy with me this week....... With her being stick inside for almost the entire week cause of the weather...... So im very hopfull of better weather so I can take her on more walks...... And I will probably have to do some phone tech support for my parents as they learn how to use Linux..... And of course then theres real work to do *sigh*....... But the bills need to be paid some how and im way to ugly for Onlyfans......
And finally before this post gets to long and people yell at me....... I just want to say thankyou to itscalledreality for doing these weekly threads..... They are a great motivator to actually play games..... So I can annoy you all..... Errr I mean contribute to these threads...... Yes...... Thats what I meant....
Until next time..... Koala finger prints are almost indistinguishable from human finger prints...... Your chances of being framed by a Koala are low..... But never zero......

Got me wondering how real admins do it. Surely Linux (especially) has to have some sort of self monitoring and notification system in it. Although I imagine this might be one of those cases where it's assumed if you know how to diagnose/fix it, you don't need a warning system, lol.
Mostly playing Monster Sanctuary, but it's starting to feel a bit repetitive. Either your combo of monsters works, or it doesn't. I'm really trying to be good and finish my games to the end, but this one might be a struggle.
Good luck! Hope you find something you like and works for you!

I have never doing administration as my main day job. My impression is though that it might have been some combination of SNMP alerts and log monitoring. Maybe it still is.
Games
As for what I'm going to do this weekend and next week, one of the games that I might still play in upcoming week is ΔV: Rings of Saturn. On the surface if doesn't look like much, there's just spaceship and bunch of asteroids. Once you get deeper into it, there's actually bit more. Mining itself can be frustrating at first as you barely know how to control your ship, you have no idea what's value able or not and most of the nuggets fly away fast. You'll learn quickly that going fast is going to wreck your ship and repairing it is going to eat your profits.
There's bunch of more stuff like some quest lines (unlocked by hiring more crew). Should do proper review at some point.
I might also finish Unforeseen Incidents. It's traditional point and click adventure that has multitool and several quite nerdy puzzles. Like finding source of radio transmission with triangulation. It looks bit like a comic book done by artist is on way to getting professional. Lots of detail, but some things are bit wonky.
I started playing Stone Story RPG recently and it might not look like much with black and white ASCII art and all. But it's kind of Loop Hero, but on a straight line. It's just incrementally getting more complex and getting more and more RPG tropes (and even some scripting). Based on the reviews it's bit grindy and I can see that.
Should also get back to Graveyard Keeper (I have one DLC to finish). Maybe also could resume Company of Heroes. Or even Metro: Last Light.
Other stuff
Outside gaming, I have been thinking about getting a groovebox. Basically it's hardware device that can be used to create music. I could use computer for same things, but if I potentially want to a gig and play guitar at the same time, I need something thats at least somewhat portable and has some MIDI control. Just being able to start and stop background track straight from my guitar pedal would be quite handy.

I've been following SorcererDave's Let's Play of Cold Waters. It's a Cold War submarine sim from 2017. It's weird, I know very little about this niche genre, but the slow gameplay, tense music and Dave's excellent narration really drew me in. So I actually shelled out the princely sum of 37€ and got the game, which runs nicely via Steam/Proton.
I've sunk a few hours into it already (Gnihihi, "sunk") between packing boxes for my move and I'm really amazed how exciting a game can be that has you staring at a map screen for a large amount of its playtime. But damn, it is hard! I've learned quite a bit about submarine warfare, too.

The traditionally-animated cutscenes, of which there are only a sparse few (this is a good thing - too many games back then leaned on large amounts of FMVs as padding), were really well-done too; Given the year of release, I'd love to know if hand-painted cels were used for it (this was still common in Japanese animation at the time), and if any survive... Interestingly, the English dub was surprisingly inoffensive for the era - it was way better than the equivalent title released a couple of years later for the PlayStation, Bomberman World, which had an earsplitting UK-English dub that sounded like they'd gotten someone's teacher to shout all over it (I don't believe that this was the fault of the voice-talent, however - it was clearly a case of poor casting and poor direction, which was very common back then).
Please keep us posted on this - we all love the year of the Linux desktop, after all.
You quite possibly have THE worst luck that I've ever heard of!
I've definitely gotta check this one out - I love the old Data East stuff from that era. Another one of theirs that was influenced by popular movies that sticks out in my mind is Sly Spy, which is, of course, heavily inspired by James Bond to the point that you could fairly describe it as the best unlicensed James Bond game of its time!
Hehe, Bomberland is a fab one for a freebie - I hope that you enjoy it!

He's clearly got his gaming buddies over! That or they're all reading GOL and the yellow fella's bothered about the Intel stats.
I'll have to get back to you when I'm able to reassess this - a fair few strong points of the Saturn's library came from its for-the-day arcade-perfect conversions, and as you note those are largely invalidated by the likes of MAME these days. There's still definitely plenty of great stuff, but I'd be doing it a disservice if I didn't dig back into it all before suggesting anything!
Likewise - I unashamedly look forward to the Weekend Playlist every week, even if my posts can get a bit samey due to my laser-focus on my currently-ongoing Bomberman marathon.
Actually, on that note, I'll be revisiting the early Saturn platformer Astal (a short-but-sweet game that went largely ignored when it was originally released - something probably not helped by its absolutely hideous US box-art) as one of my picks for next weekend - something that I briefly played in Japanese back in the day, but somehow never got around to finishing. As noted it's short, but I would still recommend it because it's also good (so there's a first Saturn recommendation!), and I'd guess that it's unlikely you'll have played it before because it skipped the PAL regions back in the day.
Hahahahaha, I had to look this up just to be sure, and I can't believe that it's true! That Blinky Bill has a lot to answer for!
Hahaha! Can you imagine how I'm going to be next year if Super Bomberman R 2 (the big Bomberman 40th Anniversary game) works with Proton day-and-date with everything else?
I have not yet even begun.
Sims aren't the sort of thing that I usually play, but looking at Cold Waters reminds me of an old first-party free-to-play title for the Nintendo 3DS that I really enjoyed (Steel Diver: Sub Wars, which was similarly educational about submarine warfare - and quite a lot of fun when played online, though doubtless quicker-paced than this title), so I might have to look into this one. That YouTube link will be tremendously handy for that - thankyou!

One day, You will have to explain to me how the subs don't tip over, lol.

Will do..... I installed EndeavourOS with the KDE Plasma Desktop Enviroment..... Same setup at me so it will be easier to direct them over the phone when I need to help them out.....
Yeah I probably do..... Got a story about my first ever Blood Bowl tournament game I will share one day.....
But on the positive side my parents are I were not affected by the recent GRUB issue that affected EndeavourOS systems..... I dont know how or why...... I have not had a chance to look into it...... Only found out about it today...... And I do update my system after boot up every morning and my parents do the same...... So I got some good luck for once
You should really.... The Cliffhanger Edward Randy is just good old fashioned turn your brain off and enjoy the ride Arcade fun....
I have Sly Spy on my Arcade Games To Play list...... I might just move it up the list and play it this week..... You are such a bad influence lol!.......
Did you ask him or did you just assume???..... Could be a zoom/skype confrence for work...... The Intel man looks very official...... Heyyyyyy wait a minute........ Intel Man and Tux in the same confrence call........ Could Intel be working more closely with Linux????.......
Yeah Arcade conversions were one of the Saturns strongest points...... I know there were good non arcade games on the system but I dont know them off the top of my head as I never owned or knew anyone who owned one....... So its a large gap in my gaming knowledge......
Awesome thanks for the tip...... And oh wow you wernt wrong....... The Japanese cover art is way better!!!!!
Dont feel to bad....... Most people in Australia dont even know that fact....... Oh geez Blinky Bill thats a name I have not heard in a long time.......
No one loves anything more than Pengling loves Bomberman........
I can understand that....... I use to play almost nothing but Racing Sims for around 8 years....... I know how much a good sim can suck you in..... Sometimes its good to try something different.... Good to see your enjoying it mate ......

They never explain the important stuff :)
Reminds me of a biology teacher who wrote in a forum about her teaching experiences: "I've spent years learning about bio-chemistry, the inner workings of cells, the DNA and what have you and in my first week as a teacher, a girl asks me 'Can bees fly backwards?' and I had no effing idea."

But it's in fact the only Bomberman I ever play I admit, and reading you I understand some are better. So maybe one day I will try another!
