Steam and gamescope flatpak
waylord Feb 9, 2023
Hi,

I'm running a clear Arch Linux install (Plasma DE). I have installed Steam and gamescope using flatpak. I have two problems:

- gamescope is not working as it should. My screen is 1920x1080 so launching steam games using gamescope -h 720 -H 720 -- %command% should result in a smaller window but they are running fullscreen at native res (this is only a test to check is not working). However gamescope seems to be launching and this links to the second problem.

- after exiting games a gamescope-wl process keeps running and steam gets stuck in exiting game. Killing the process manually makes steam detect the game is closed and I'm able to run it again.

I really want to setup steam using flatpak as I do not want to pollute the system with 32bits libs.I'm sure it must be something I'm doing wrong.

There's a somewhat similar problem (and solution) here. Seems to be specific to Nvidia however;

I have found the issue. Is the one described in https://github.com/flathub/com.valvesoftware.Steam.Utility.gamescope/issues/7

Flatpak gamescope don't work with Steam-bundled proton.
Flatpak gamescope work with native linux games.
Flatpak gamescope work with flatpak proton.

This should be noted in https://flathub.org/apps/details/com.valvesoftware.Steam
