Dick Trickle at the track ready to race…….
Its the half way point of the season as Dick has a point to prove….. He sits second in the championship….. He needs a good result to challenge for the championship…… Sadly Dick has brought an underpowered car to a power track…...
After a quick shakedown and learning the track it was time for qualifying…… Dick pushed as hard as the car would allow but could only manage 7th in qualifying…… That would pit him in Heat 1 starting in 4th place…….

Dick Trickle lined up ready to start Heat 1…...
The 5 lap Heat 1 race saw Dick limp off the start and drop down to 9th place by the first turn…… Dick was able to compose himself as he found his way up the inside of 3 cars on lap 2 and then was deep up the inside of 2 more cars 1 lap later…… Trickle was able to hold up to 4th which is where he started the race…….. Dick sure found the hard way to finish the race in the same place he started…….

Heat 1 Results…….
The 50 lap A Main saw Dick starting in 7th on the inside this time……. Dick was not limp this time as he started hard and strong as he was on the inside 3 wide in the first turn battling for 6th……. Trickle held the inside line like a champ to maintain that position exiting the 2nd turn…….. From then on it was a real boring race…… Dick was faster than the guys behind but much slower than the cars in front……
Only John Rafter put up any challenge chasing Dick hard in the second half of the race and getting to within half a second….. But then John ran into the back of a lapped car…… Damaging his own car in the process and was unable to keep up the challenge……. Rafter was so close to Dick but yet so far away……..
Dick gained 2 more spots as Joe Fazioli and Ralph Higgins both had engine troubles during the race forcing both to retire…… The 2 free spots elevated Dick Trickle up to 4th place as the chequered flag fell……..
Dick Trickle was happy with his 4th place telling reporters “Im happy with my 4th place” continuing “With a car this down on horsepower anything in the top 5 is considered a win!…… I estimate to be about 30 horsepower down on the leaders”…….
Dick was last seen talking to an exhaust dealer in the paddock…….
We are now officially half way through the season 5 races down 5 races to go……. The competition has been intense…… 5 races and 5 different winners so far this season…… The 2002 Dirt Series Championship should come right down to the final race…… With Dick Trickle sitting in 3rd place just 39 points behind championship leader Josh Ginter…….

Lee Corso picking the University of Nevada Wolf Pack…….. to beat the Boise State Broncos
The Wolf Pack won the toss and elected the receive the ball first…… And they had a great start scoring a touchdown on the opening drive…..
The Broncos coach was livid as was seen yelling at the defence…… This is not the start he wanted as he chased a National Championship birth…… He looked over at his offence and knew what needed to be done……. Get the ball to Austin…..
The Broncos first drive started with Steve Austin busting through the Wolf Packs defensive line and ran away for a touchdown…….
The Boise State coach was happy again knowing the offence was still firing on all cylinders…….
The defence made another stop…… And the Broncos got the ball back…….. But disaster as the Boise State QB #11 got injured on the very next play…… And forced the back up BQ #7 to take the field in his place…… The plan was simple…… Give the rock to Austin……. And QB #7 did not fail as he pitched the ball back to Austin who ran wide and with the help of some great blocking was able to get around the corner of the Nevada defensive line and sprint down the sideline for another tuddy……
Boise States defence was clicking again as they made 2 interception in back to back drives and Austin was able to convert both of them into touchdowns as the Broncos grew the lead to 35-7 at half time…..
After the half the Broncos received the ball first and QB #7 threw a nice slant pass to Austin who found the edge of the Wolf Packs for another run down the sideline for a touchdown……
Nevada was able to score a late touchdown but it was all to late……. The Broncos got a 3rd interception and Austin bulldozed his way through the line again to score to finish the game in style for Boise State……
In the end even after a great start Nevada just couldnt hang with Boise State and the Broncos ran out comfortable winners 83-14
One more game left in the regular season for the Broncos…… Can they make it through the regular season undefeated???

This almost seems unfair……. Even though the two games share the same name……. They are nothing…… NOTHING alike…… The graphics are different…… The car models are different……. The car handling if different…… The number of cars on track is different……. YES thats right……..
One of these games doesnt have the correct number of cars on track during a race…….
Lets not beat round the bush here……. The Xbox version of NASCAR Heat 2002 is the far far far superior version of the game…….. The PlayStation 2 version is total crap in comparison……. And really doesnt stand up well on its own anyway……..
As you will see in the screenshots below….. The Xbox version looks much much better…… Its not even close…… From the car models to the car textures…….. Even the tracks dont look the same….. When you look at the Dover comparison look at how different the far grandstand is and the building next to it……
The PlayStation 2 look like up scaled PS1 cars while the Xbox cars look like they have been made from the ground up just for the game……. Or imported from the PC version of NASCAR Heat……..
The car handling is probably the biggest difference……. The PS2 is like driving a tank….. Against other tanks……. Trying to spin the other cars is so hard its a joke…. The cars feel like they pivot on the centre point when they turn…… The handling again feels like its lifted straight from a PS1 game…...
The cars in the Xbox version are very good….. They handle like a NASCAR should…… Stable when in clean air but very easy to get upset and spin when touched…… The cars very much feel like the cars in NASCAR: Dirt To Daytona (2002)…… Which is made by the same dev team….. Monster Games……
The PS2 version can run a max of 24 cars on track at one time…….. The Xbox version can run a max of 43 cars on track at one time…… The correct number of cars on track for a NASCAR Cup race in 2001 is…….. 43……. so the PS2 game cant even simulate a NASCAR race……
I feel sorry for anybody who got NASCAR Heat 2002 for the PlayStation 2……. It was a crap game then and its still a crap game now…… If you ever have a choice of playing NASCAR Heat 2002 on the PlayStation 2 OR on the Xbox….. always…… ALWAYS…… Pick the Xbox version…….
I really dont know how these 2 games ended up being so different…….. As they were made by the same dev team…… The only thing I can come up with is the PS2 version released in June/July (US/PAL) of 2001 and the Xbox version was released November 2001…… But really….. 5 months cant account for such a massive upgrade that the Xbox version is in all areas…….
In conclusion….. The two games are so different that comparing NASCAR Heat 2002s PS2 and Xbox releases is like comparing WCWs Goldberg and WWFs Gillberg…….

This Week
This week im hoping the weather stabilizes so that I dont get rained on while walking again….. Besides that not much else….. Should be a nice quiet week….. I will also have to try out some more Xbox games……
As for gaming there will be more hardcore Dick Trickle action in NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona……. Steve Austin will be playing NCAA Football 11….. There will be yet another TMNT game….. I swear they never end..…… And most probably yet another Kirby game…… Another series that seems to never end…...
Well thats it from me…… Have a good week everyone……
Now for my bad joke of the week……

This week's stop on the Super Bomberman mini-marathon is Super Bomberman 4 (SNES), which is the first of two Japan-only installments in the SNES quintology.
For me, this game is a close second to Super Bomberman 3, which is my favourite of the SNES titles. I'm looking forward to revisiting Super 4 as it was the first game that I played during my big Bomberman marathon last year.
This title sees Bomberman and several of his siblings and friends get sent back in time by the disembodied brain of Bomberman's greatest enemy, Buggler (don't worry, he recovers from this unfortunate ailment and returns later in the series ), in an attempt to get revenge for his past losses to the heroes. Though it adds the new element of rescued friends hanging around to help you out when you find them in a stage, next to Super Bomberman 3 this one is a "more of the same" sort of entry, but there's nothing wrong with that at all because it's a great game!

My second pick is Bomberman B-Daman ( https://bomberman.fandom.com/wiki/Bomberman_B-Daman_(video_game) ) (SNES), which is a Japan-only side-game from 1996, based on a popular Japan-only toy-line which started in 1993*. I've played it before outside of the Weekend Players' Club threads and found it to be fun and very charming (it's full of neat little details and even has its action-figure characters waddling around like the green army-men from Toy Story), hence the revisit.
*Most of the 1990s Bomberman action-figures came from the B-Daman range, which actually started as a Bomberman toy-line before later becoming its own thing; "Biidama" is the Japanese term for marble, so "B-Daman" is wordplay that literally translates to "Marbleman". Even though these figures are now 30 years old, they've proven to be quite popular with my younger relatives too, which just goes to show that ways of playing with traditional toys like marbles never go out of fashion - not even when you combine them with robots.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this one when I first tried it out, but it turned out to be a low-stress bowling puzzle game where you need to create chain-reactions with bombs. You get two marble-shots to try to clear each of the 100 puzzles, or at least to score as highly as you can. If you can't clear a puzzle, it doesn't matter - you just move onto the next one, and you're presented with a bowling-style score-card at the end of each block of 10 levels so that you can go back later and try to beat your best scores.
There's also a battle-mode for up to four players (the other opponents can be AIs, though you need to use a second controller to set the second opponent to an AI if you're playing solo, which is a bit of a weird oversight), which is surprisingly fun as well, though it's a lot simpler than the classic battle mode in the traditional Bomberman games.

As a nice bonus, you can also customise the colours and faces of your in-game B-Daman figures to match any real-life ones that you might have (the game originally came packaged with a figure, which the preset in-game Yellow Bomberman matches) - though unfortunately no provision exists for the translucent figures! Still, it's a really nice touch that they simply didn't have to include, and that's always nice to see.
