Deep Rock Galactic crashing - need help diagnosing
chowder3907 Apr 12, 2023
I am running debian bookworm on my framework laptop with an i7-1165G7 and Iris XE Graphics. I can get a playable framerate, except whenever I kill an enemy with a method that produces a fire effect (like the breach cutter) the entire system momentarily freezes. The game's music keeps playing but the video stops, and it's a solid 10-15 seconds before I can drop to a TTY or do ctrl+meta+esc to force close the window. I am running the native .apt version of steam. Running steam through the CLI reveals nothing. This happens with proton experimental or the latest GE. I can't seem to find anything like this online, and it works fine on my deck. I cannot launch the game in dx11 mode either if that's telling. If you have a solution that's great but really I need help diagnosing this, I'm not sure where to go right now.

Sounds like a driver issue. There's a bug report here about a somewhat similar problem and it's reported to be fixed with Mesa 23.0.1. Bookworm is still on Mesa 22 so you either have to wait for the fix or install Mesa from experimental.

If that doesn't improve things I suggest filing a new bug.

I updated to mesa 21.0.2-1 from experimental and that did not fix my issue unfortunately
