G'Day fellow tuxers……. Its your interim host here once again…….. Its a raining Saturday here right now…….…… This week was another craptacular week…….

I spent 13 hours last Sunday getting the data off my not very healthy HDD…… Was able to do it and there wasnt that much data to backup……. But it was not playing nice and took way longer than it should have……….

The weather continues to be shite….. Raining and windy….. Which really didnt matter this week….. As I spent most of the time indoors anyway……. Backing up data and then putting the data onto the new HDD I ordered…….

So I did not get much time for gaming this week and the amount of games played is way down on what I would usually play……..

In some good news the guy down the road was giving away lemons from his tree so I grabbed some and made a cheesecake with them…….

[+..••] As for gaming this week in Emulationville I played [+..••]

The Dick Trickles Racing Career: Part 22
NASCAR Dirt to Daytona: Part 22

Intro music…... Hello and welcome to Left Turn Heaven….. Im Murray Eastlake and today im going to be bringing you all a special off season edition…… This week is the final week before the 2004 racing season starts……

And we have saved the best till last…… This week I sit down with the owner of Dick Trickle Racing…… Dick Trickle…… Dick dominated the 2003 Weekly Dirt Racing Series…. Setting many records that will never be broken….. Lets find out what he has been up to during the off season…..

Murray Eastlake: Thank you for your time and having this interview with us….. Its been a awhile since you won the 2003 Weekly Dirt Racing Series Championship…… And set so many records……. How have you reflected on that season now that you have had some time look back on it…...

Dick Trickle: My pleasure Murray……. It took awhile to sink in what it was I actually did….. And just how special last season was…… There are moments from last season I will never forget and neither will a lot of people….. And I will treasure those memories for life…… But now I need to look forward to 2004…… I have a championship to defend and I dont want to do what Josh Ginter did last year…… I want to keep dominating that series for a long time to come…… It really helps the bank account to stay focused and win races…….

Murray Eastlake: Now a little birdie told me that you have been very busy this off season…. What has Dick Trickle been up to this off season???…….

Dick Trickle: I have been flat out like a lizard drinking Murray…… I have spent the entire off season preparing not one……. But two cars…….

Murray Eastlake: Two cars???……. I can see the Infogrames Flaming Dick Machine behind you…… So what is the second car???……

Dick Trickle: Well Murray….. Now that the paper has all been made official……. I can now announce that thanks to a major sponsorship deal from Klipsch…….. Dick Trickle Racing is expanding into the Featherlite Modified Series…….

Murray Eastlake: Now that is HUGE news…… So you are going to be running in both the 2004 Weekly Dirt Racing Series AND the 2004 Featherlite Modified Series this season I take it since you said you are preparing two cars???…..

Dick Trickle: Yes thats right Murray…….. I will be running in both series…… I know there is at least one schedule conflict and the Featherlite series will be taking precedence…… And as you mentioned before Murray….. Infogrames has stayed on as my main sponsor for the 2004 Weekly Dirt Racing Series……

Murray Eastlake: Can we give the viewers a sneak peak at the Featherlite Modified car???…..

Dick Trickle: Yeah sure thing…. Follow me…..

*Dick Trickle leads Murray Eastlake to the workshop preparing the Modified car…….*

Dick Trickle: Well here it is Murray…… The 2004 Featherlite Modified Series car I will be driving……. *Dick Trickle pats the roof of the car*

Murray Eastlake: WOW……. Now thats what a call a Klipsch Modified Flaming Dick Machine……. Do you have any words for your new fellow competitors in the Featherlite Modified Series and the defending champion William Anderson????…..

Dick Trickle: I would like to say that im going to be very competitive after the first race…… The car is still stock but I need to run a race to see what areas need work the most…… After the second race I will be gunning for top tens and hopefully even top fives……. This season will be about leaning the car and the tracks…… I dont think winning the championship is a realistic expectation right now…… But we will see what happens…… But if not this year….. Then in 2005 I will be 100% going for the championship………

As for William Anderson….. He better enjoy that championship…… Because there is a big Dick coming for him…… And I fully intend on taking that trophy within the next two years…...

Murray Eastlake: And for your fellow Weekly Dirt Racing Series competitors???……

Dick Tricke: If you think for a second that because im running in both series that im going to let off in the Dirt series……. Think again……. Im am going to be 100% focused on both series……. I am not going to be making the same mistake Josh Ginter did…… The Dick Domination will not end…… Not anytime soon…… I and I alone will decide when it ends…..

Murray Eastlake: Well there you have it folks……. We are out of time….. Thank you for having us Dick….. And good luck next season…….

Dick Trickle: No worries Murray….. And thank you…… Im looking forward to starting the Featherlite Modified Series next week…..

Thats all from this special off season edition of Left Turn Heaven….. The racing action will be back next week as Left Turn Heaven will be exclusively bringing you all the heart stopping action from the 2004 Featherlite Modified Series..…

Next week the Featherlite Modified Series will be at Dennison Speedrome……. Dick Trickle will be making his series debut…… How will he fair??…… Will he be a contender???…… Or will he be a pretender???……. Can William Anderson start his championship title defence with a win???…..

Tune in next week for the answers to all these questions and more….. You wont want to miss a single moment of what is sure to be a sensational season…...

This is Murray Eastlake reporting for Left Turn Heaven..... And until next time its goodbye from me....

This series has been great fun for me so far…… Hope you have all enjoyed reading it as much I have enjoyed writing it…… Getting some creative writing in has made these weekend posts even more fun for me…..

From here on there will be no more Weekly Dirt Racing Series race recaps I will be focussing on the Featherlite Modified Series…… I will just post the NASCAR Heat Weekly newspaper image after each Dirt race…… And maybe a short paragraph if anything interesting happens……..

The way the game works I could not see who actually won the Featherlight Modified Series last year……. After the last dirt race I could see that William Anderson was leading the championship by nearly 150 points with 2 races left in the season…….. But then it cuts straight to the end of the season as the dirt season was finished……. And since im not taking part in any other champion I can only see the final championship results of the Dirt series……. So im going to call William Anderson the current champion for the sake of the stroyline…….

So stay tuned to see more adventures of Dick Trickle……. My creative juices have been flowing like a Dick Trickle and I have big ideas for this series in the distant future…… Oh you better believe this series is far from over…...

That is a Modified car???..... The Featherlite Modified Series was a real series back in 2002 (And still going today…… Now called the “Whelen Modified Tour”)……. The car in the game is based on a real Featherlite Modified Series car from 2002…….. From what I can tell….. All the modified drivers in NASCAR Dirt to Daytona are fictional…… And there is a mix of real and fictional tracks as well……

The Modified Series is the oldest series in NASCAR…… NASCARS first ever sanctioned event was a Modified race back on February 15 1948 at Daytona Beach…… Red Byron won the event……. The modifieds have become an important stepping stone on the way to the NASCAR Cup Series……. And many NASCAR Cup Series drivers had to prove themselves in the Modified Series before getting to the Cup Series…….

In NASCAR Dirt to Daytona……. The Featherlite Modified Series has a 11 race schedule…… 9 races on tarmac/concrete ovals…… and 2 races on a tarmac road course that from what I can tell is fictional…… So yes…… That means no more dirt tracks…….

A real Featherlite Modified Series car…….

Super Bomberman 2

I get up early in the morning and stumble like a zombie to the toilet….. I sit on the toilet…... Getting ready to have a big Activision…… Bored I start fiddling with the toilet roll and notice something written on it……. I read it still half asleep……. “*BOOM* Review a bomberman game or your dead……” I suddenly become wide awake with equal parts fear and shock……. I then hear a beeping sound from under the toilet…….. GOD DAMMIT PENGLING!!!!…...

The graphics are really nice with bright colours and “cute” robots all over the place…… The colours really pop and it makes great use of the brighter SNES colour pallet….. The animations are nice and simple…. And the pixel art between worlds is really well done….. Overall this is a great looking game……

Sounds are also good…… The “cute” robots make “cute” sounds…… The explosions sound nice and the music is generally quite happy and colourful to match the bright colours…… While nothing super amazing it all fits the tone of the game really well…...

The controls are really simple…… Dpad moves Bomberman…….. A drops a bomb and Y jumps…… But jumping is only available on certain stages…… The controls are really tight and responsive…… And thats it……. Super simple……. No wonder Pengling has a robot army….. I had no idea robots were this easy to control…….

The storyline its VERY simple….. Even for a video game….. April O’Neil has been kidnapped and its up to the Ninja Tur…….. Hang on……. Oh here it is….. April O’Neil has been kidnapped and its up to her and her bomb……. Wait…… Thats still wrong…….. Ah here we go…. Bomberman has been kidnapped and its up to his robot siblings to sav…… who am I kidding….. His robot siblings are going to sit around the house and do nothing…….. So its up to Bomberman and his bomb power to rescue himself…… Hmmmmm……. Maybe I wasnt wrong the first time……...

The gameplay is also simple…… Move Bomberman around the maze and……. Lay bombs like a chicken laying an egg???…… Im not sure how that works……. Im sure Pengling has a schematic that shows exactly how the bombs are deployed……. Anyway……. Bomberchickenman lays bombs to destroy blocks and “cute” enemy robots…… Get to the exit and onto the next level…..

Does Bomberchickenman make the bombs inside himself like a chicken makes an egg…… Or are they made externally and are just stored inside him likes hes a B-52 bomber???……… Again….. Im sure Pengling has a full schematic to show us…...

There are of course boss fights along the way……. They are quite fun…. Usually consisting of a giant “cute” robot that has a very distinctive patten you need to learn and once you do they are quite easy to beat……. The trouble is learning the patten before Bomberchickenman dies to many times……

Which came first???…... The Bomberchickenman or the bomb????…...

Overall its a really fun semi relaxing game….. Not to difficult but a good balanced game……. If you like bright colours….. Chirpy music…… “Cute” robots…… Or you just worship bombs…… You should have fun with this one……

Ok done….. Ive reviewed a bomberman game….. Pengling….. Can you please disarm the bomb on the toilet….. I cant feel my legs anymore…...

Super Bomberman 2

Next week…… Next week if it ever stops raining im hoping to get on some walks without getting rained on…… The dog is going mad being stuck inside…….. I can only wait and see what the weather does before I decide what to do…….

As for gaming there will be more hardcore modified Dick Trickle racing action in NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona……. Killing bugs in NASCAR Heat 5…….. And playing a very obscure sports game….. Along with catching up on a lot of games I missed this week…….

Well thats it from me…… Hope all you tuxers have a good week……

Now for my bad joke of the week……
Why am I the only naked person at this gender reveal party????
*ba dum.... tssssh…...*

I've had a rather hectic week with very little time for gaming (everything I've played this week has only been for a very brief time), so this weekend I'm looking forward to relaxing and putting in some time to further hone my maze-chase fundamentals, which I'll be doing via two games that I've mentioned in these threads before.

First up is Ape Out (Proton), which I'm revisiting in order to play through "Disc 3 - Fugue", which is basically the third set of stages, these ones starting out with the poor gorilla trapped in some sort of military base full of heavily-armed soldiers.

Second up is Pac-Man 256 (Native Linux), which I just want to put a bit more time into in general! At the time of writing, my current mission is to have Pac-Man eat five apples, and I've decided to use the "Moon Lander" theme for the moment.

This week's progress on Alien Crush (TurboGrafx-16) sees the score reach 635,984,800 out of 999,999,990.

[+..••] Other stuff that I played this week;

Arcade Game Series: Ms. Pac-Man (Proton)

Bomberman '94 (PC Engine)

Doraemon Meikyuu Daisakusen* (PC Engine)

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy (Proton)

Placid Plastic Duck Simulator (Proton)

Tanglewood (Proton, because I don't feel like fixing the native version)

*It's time for this feature again!

Pengling's Robot Army

Doraemon (a portmanteau of "dora" from "dora neko"/"stray cat", and the old-fashioned honorific "emon") is one of the most famous Japanese robot characters of all time. Debuting in manga form in 1969 and appointed in 2008 by Japan's foreign ministry as the country's Anime Ambassador, he's an earless anthropomorphic robot cat who was sent back in time by a destitute family from the 22nd century, in order to prevent their forerunner, Nobita Nobi, from screwing up so badly during his childhood that it leaves all of his descendants in poverty centuries down the line. Doraemon does this by pulling futuristic gadgets from the pocket on his stomach, though these typically lead to all sorts of misadventures for Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends!

Heheheh, yup, you got this one dead-on. As far as I know, this game is why, in the modern games, Bomberman's siblings are depicted as being a bit lazy and apathetic, to the point that he generally can't even get them to bother visiting the training-room in their own house, let alone corral them into going out-and-about to save the universe.

Sadly there is no schematic - you'd certainly expect it, seeing as companies like Capcom have done that sort of thing with their own cutesy robot characters, wouldn't you? I'd certainly like to buy an official schematic in poster form!

That said, I can explain how bombs are deployed by Bomber type robots, and also by Bomber Cyborgs (like this guy, who appears later in the series) - they're created in the hands and then placed or thrown. Some of the Nintendo 64-era titles allow you create bombs of various sizes by holding the button down for longer until a massive bomb is held overhead, though this hasn't made a return in a long time.

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderOverall its a really fun semi relaxing game….. Not to difficult but a good balanced game……. If you like bright colours….. Chirpy music…… “Cute” robots…… Or you just worship bombs…… You should have fun with this one……
Hey, what's with the constant quotes around cute, here, buddy?

Anyway, fun review! Super Bomberman 2 is one of those good jumping-on points, as it's where the SNES titles first established their own identity, which would make a permanent mark on the series going forward - it was even referenced in 2017's Super Bomberman R, where it was ultimately revealed that Pretty Bomber, of the Five Dastardly Bombers, is one of Bomberman's three sisters.

Last month I went to the Pinball Hall of Fame and it was amazing. I love Pinball. I also watched the Pinball movie during the flight which was also very well made.

My friends confirmed that they have Fish Tales, Star Trek, Apollo 13 and Addams Family for sure. So I will be in there.

My wife and I are talking about bout buying a few machines for the house. Personally, I would love to own the Conan, Attack from Mars and Stranger Things. She would love to have the Addams Family and Gorgar.

Video pinball! I am a fan, but I don't play it often, because when I do I can get sucked in. But I was reminded of it already this weekend, because my in-laws gave my kid a tabletop pinball construction set. That has been a blast, and then yesterday evening I returned to my first video pinball love: Revenge of the Gator!

I had this on my original Game Boy more than 30 years ago, and I loved it. It was my introduction to video pinball, years before Epic Pinball. It had features like physically impossible extra secret screens that you had to unlock and discover, and moving "enemies". It couldn't save your high score. There was no ability to bump the table. I still love it to this day.

Another good Nintendo option, years later, is Metroid Prime Pinball for the Nintendo DS. Made great use of the dual screens, has a range of tables, and again lots of features that play to the strengths of video pinball.

A fine game indeed! Its spiritual-sequel was Kirby's Pinball Land, which was my second-ever video-pinball game. My first was 3D Pinball: Pinball Power for the Commodore 64, which seems very simple by today's standards, but I've still got a soft-spot for it (and its sound-effects are still etched into my memory to this day).

We're on our third day of unbearable hot weather. On Friday I had very bad migraine… yesterday was worse – I actually fainted in direct sun light (with hat) with a hot fence on one side and a huge group of people on all other sides. Fortunately I only got a bruised knee.

On the positive side I've been following the vpinball standalone improvements. 10 of the 11 tables I've tried are working with DMD. It's annoying that most of the tools are Windows-only – including PINemHi (a tool to read score values from the nvram content stored by pinmame). There is a very basic and incomplete alternative.

The LAN spot was pretty good but not for me. Super young crowd but I did learn more about Wild Rift which was nice and it made me appreciate Mobile Legends a little more. I even reinstalled it.

They had a lot of PCs and games going. I was very much into Tekken 7 matches that went on but it was view only for their top players. Excellent matches all around.

My wife and I spent most of the time checking out some of the other games on display like CS:Go and DBD. We played them both before but it was pretty neat to see some seasoned players rocking it.
