Welch Valley Racing Complex…….
Welch Valley Racing Complex is 2.22 miles long with 9 turns….. This is the only road course the Featherlite Modified Series attends…… The turns are fast and sweeping…… The straights are very long….. You need a good all round car that handles very well for this track……. Being such a different track to anything else on the calendar really does mean anything can happen here at Welch Valley Racing Complex…..
With no Weekly Dirt Racing Series races this week…….. Dick has been able to concentrate solely on getting the Klipsch Modified Flaming Dick Machine ready for this weeks race…… Dick will be 100% set up and prepared……. And wont want to have the same problems he had here earlier in the year when he suffered from over heating tyres….. Dick will be looking for a win to keep the pressure on Jason Sulivan……..
Speaking of the championship leader Jason Sulivan…… He will be looking to bounce back from the last two races……. While two second places are very good they are below his usual standard with five wins this season….. A win would almost seal the championship for him…...
Francis Lee and Joel York are on the edge of being knocked out of championship contention…… Both men really need a win to keep their championship hopes alive…… I will be keeping an eye on both of them this week as things could get spicy……..
Last years champion William Anderson is all but knocked out of the championship hunt……. He needs both Jason Sulivan and Dick to DNF two of the three races and hes needs two wins to put himself even in the championship hunt…….. Never say never……. But its as close to never as you can get…….
With just three races are left in the 2004 Featherlite Modified Series…… The championship is slipping through the fingers of many drivers hands……. Lots of drivers NEED a win save their seasons……. And with so much pressure on the drivers out there on the track today we could see tempers flair and they might even bring back the biff!…..
Dont touch the sets...... Dont touch the dials...... You wont want to miss a single moment of the 2004 Featherlite Modified Series....… Practice and qualifying are coming up right now……

Dick Trickle at the track ready to race.…
Dick spent a lot of time in practice setting up his car…… Getting the gear ratios just right as well as working on the suspension to make sure he had no overheating tyre issues…….. He was one happy looking Dick as the practice session came to a close……..
Qualifying was up next….. Dick had a sensational lap to easily claim pole with a time of 1:14.395…… Dick was so fast that second place was a whopping 3.7 seconds slower……. As Jason Sulivan could only manage a 1:18.011 to take second place…….
Francis Lee was third….. A further 1.5 seconds behind Jason Sulivan with a time of 1:19.503……… With Joel York snagging fourth with a 1:20.537……
Rounding out the top five was last years champion William Anderson with what would normally be considered a respectable time…… But he was a massive 7.1 seconds behind Dick with a time of 1:21.499……….
After qualifying……. Jason Sulivan was in a bad mood…….. As he had a good long hard look at Dicks Klipsch Modified Flaming Dick Machine in the paddock area with rule book in hand……. Looking to see if he could find anything even slightly illegal about the car he could complain about…… Sulivan left in an even worse mood……. Swearing under his breath when he couldnt find a single thing wrong with the car…….

Dick Trickle lined up ready to start the race......
Dick Trickle led the field as the green flag dropped for the 23 lap race……. Dick and Jason Sulivan had a drag race to turn one with Dick getting the best of Sulivan to lead through the turn……
Francis Lee was in third trying hard to keep up with the leading pair……. While Joel York and William Anderson resumed their rivalry……. I wonder if they are sick of each other yet???……
Dick stretched his lead over the lap as Jason Sulivan just had no answers to Dicks raw hard pace……. Francis Lee was intent to keep Sulivan honest this race as he was hounding the back of his car towards the end of the lap…..
The leading three had already put on a decent gap to the pair of Joel York and William Anderson….. Those two where intent to fight as hard as needed to take fourth place……. With neither wanting to give up…….
As the race went one Dicks lead grew and grew……. He had a commanding lead after just a few laps……. And was already starting to lap the much slower cars after just 4 laps…….
Second placed Jason Sulivan was not having it all his own way this race……. As Francis Lee was here to beat Sulivan at all costs…… With Lee even getting into second place at one point before Sulivan snatched it back at the hairpin…… But no matter how hard Sulivan tried he just couldnt shake Lee off his rear……
Same could be said for Joel York who just couldnt shake William Anderson of his rear either as they kept fighting hard towards the half way point of the race…… They must have swapped positions at least two dozen times…….
At the half way point of the race……. Dick had a commanding 50 second lead over Jason Sulivan who still had Francis Lee up his rear……. With Joel York and William Anderson already a lap down…….
With 5 laps to go Dick had lapped the entire field and was cruising to the chequered flag…… His pace had dropped right down as he was making sure he brought the car home……
No change between second and third as Francis Lee was still all over the back of Jason Sulivan…… Francis really needs to beat Sulivan to keep his slim championship hopes alive……
Fourth was Joel York with William Anderson so far up his rear we might need to censor the footage……… As they approached more lapped traffic…….. William Anderson tried to use a lapped car to make a move on Joel York….. Anderson got two wheels on the grass on the outside of the turn and spun the car…… I could almost hear him swear from all the way over here in the commentary booth as he pointed the car back in the right direction and rejoined the circuit……
With 2 laps to go…… There was a puff of smoke out of Francis Lees car……. Then his pace dropped dramatically…… It looks like Francis Lees engine is expiring……. And then there was a huge plume of smoke bellowing from the car that would make Puff the Magic Dragon blush……..
As Lee pulled over and parked the car beside the track….. His championship chances were now officially over……..
There was no such issues for Dick as the chequered flag waved….. Dick took his third win in a row……. In a total dominating Dick display…… No one could touch his Dick today……
Second was Jason Sulivan…… Who just had no answers for Dicks raw pace……. He does keep a quite healthy championship lead over Dick……. More worryingly Jason Sulivan was a massive 1 lap behind Dick…..
Third was Joel York who keeps his super slim championship hopes alive….. He needs both Jason Sulivan and Dick to finish nineteenth and twentieth in the next two races and he needs to win both races to win the championship…… That is the only way he can do it now……. He was 1 lap behind the winner
Fourth was last years champion William Anderson……. Whos chance of back to back championships has officially ended…… He just had no way to stop the Jason Sulivan and Dick juggernaut this season…… Hes going to have to work extra hard over the off season to get back to winning ways…… As he was a mamoth 2 laps behind the winner today…….
Fifth was Gary Soros whos championship hopes were over long ago……. He had a huge smile on his face as he took his second top five finishing result this season……. He was also 2 laps behind Dick…...

Race Results..…
The crowed cheered loudly as Dicks smoke filled burnout down the main straight was a sight to behold…… I think Puff the Magic Dragon would be very jealous of that one too……
After the smoke finally cleared and Dick had made his way to victory lane…… I grabbed Dick to have a word with him……
“WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THREE IN A ROW……... YEAH BABY!!!!! *Spanks Pussy Galores arse*…... Pity the wrong engine blew up Murray……. I really needed that to be [Jason] Sulivans engine……. His luck has to run out soon just like Francis Lees luck ran out today…….. And when it does I will be there ready to pounce”
“The Klipsch Modified Flaming Dick Machine was awesome all weekend long…… It handles so damn nice….. No tyre issues at all with the upgrades……. Nothing could rob me of that win today Murray……”
“Back to the oval of New Hampshire International Raceway next week……. I won there last week and I dont think there is any reason why I cant win there again next week…….. Ill just keep plugging away and getting wins and hopefully [Jason] Sulivan has a bad week…… I just need to concentrate on my own car and own performance……. Thats all I can do Murray…….”
Well there you have it folks…… Dick is well and truly still in the hunt for the championship…….
Next week the 2004 Featherlite Modified Series heads to New Hampshire International Raceway…….. Yes we were there last week and we are going back there next week…..
And then there were three….. Only Jason Sulivan, Dick and Joel York have any chance of winning the 2004 Featherlite Modified Series Championship……… And Joel York needs a hell of a lot to to go his way as well…….
With just two races to go…… Joel York NEEDS to win next week or he will be eliminated from the championship hunt……. There is no “can he do it???” anymore…. HE MUST DO IT!…….
Dick needs a win to keep the pressure on Jason Sulivan…… He has really come alive during the last few races……. Should Jason Sulivan be worried????……..
Jason Sulivan is in control of his own destiny at this point…… If he continues to drive fast and smart and gets a win he will wrap up the championship next week……. If he makes any mistake or has a mechanical problem then Dick will be right there to take full advantage of him……. Can Sulivan do it???…… Or will he falter at the second last hurdle???…..
Tune in next week for the answers to all these questions and more….. Exclusively here on Left Turn Heaven……..
This is Murray Eastlake reporting for Left Turn Heaven..... And until next time its goodbye from me....

Jungle Strike…...

Déjà vu the sensation I am playing something I have played before……..
The graphics are again really good……. There is slightly more detail in Jungle Strike…….. The desert has been replaced with a urban/jungle environment……. And you pilot a slightly fictional Comanche attack helicopter….. It looks similar to the first game but thats not a bad thing the Desert Strike looked excellent for the time….
The sounds are again very weak…….. There is no music during gameplay……… Very limited music between missions…… The helicopter sounds woeful and the weapons sounds weak……. This is again a very weak area of the game……. And also again it really needed some of this…...
The controls are the same….. The helicopter still has tank controls….. Has a set altitude…….. And the A B and C buttons are used for the different weapons……. But then again…. Why fix what aint broken……. Right???……….
The storyline……. Nothing much has changed here either……. This time its Kilbabas son as the main villain…. With Carlos Ortega also being a villain….. They both kidnap April O’Neil who was on location on a tropical jungle holiday……..
The US send in a single Comanche Attach Helicopter to stop the two of them……. In a series of strikes……. Jungle Strikes…….
The gameplay is almost identical to the Desert Strike…… There are a series of missions that take place on large maps…… Destroy buildings and airstrips and power generators and so on…… It is a lot of fun to play……. But it is all just way to similar to Desert Strike……..
Overall its a great game but its so similar to Desert Strike…... You cant help but make comparisons……. Jungle Strike is just slightly better in nearly every way but there is not much in it…….
And that is why my final score for Jungle Strike is Agent Orange out of 10……...

Yes….. Yet another stupid segment……..
I know how much whizse loves to have a nice stiff drink while reading my long weekend posts……. So im going to make them even longer for a little while….. So he can enjoy his stiff drink even longer…..
Since the 2023 Rugby World Cup has now officially started in France…… I will be following along by playing Rugby 08 (2007 EA Sports) – Sony PlayStation 2 – Sports (Rugby)……. It has a 2007 Rugby World Cup mode in the game…… So while not the same as the 2023 Rugby World Cup I can replicate the Rugby World Cup in some form at least…… I will be playing as the Australian Wallabies and I will be playing the games the same day the Wallabies play their world cup matches in real life…….
They wont be super long segments just a brief little bit about how the games went and a few screenshots…….
Its a long tournament and the games are spaced out quite a bit so it should really only be one game per week…. Maybe two max very now and then……. The World Cup Final is not until October 29th…...
Next week…… Will be a very busy week on gaming this week……. Besides that I need to get out and mow the lawns again and I need to try and get out and walk the dog more…….
As for gaming there will be hardcore modified Dick Trickle racing action in NASCAR: Dirt to Daytona……. Getting down and dirty in WRC 10…….. More PES Penguin 6…….. Rugby World Cup in Rugby 08……… And I will be going on yet Dakar Rally……. Will it be good this time???…...
Well thats it from me…… Hope all you tuxers have a good week……
Now for my bad joke of the week……
Q: Why do bees have sticky hair???......
A: Because they use honeycombs.......
*ba dum.... tssssh…...*

My Steam Deck and dock, along with Blue Bomberman cushion and Biomutant plush.
I name all of my computers after locations in video games, and befitting of its imposing presence compared to other handhelds, I've given my Steam Deck the hostname of "warship-noah", after the final world in Bomberman 64: The Second Attack!, which also happens to have some excellent music.
It's really nice hardware, and I've gotten used to it very quickly - it's now my main gaming-PC (my GPD Win Max 2021 will remain as my main emulation-box going forward, though). That said, I'm somewhat in gaming-hibernation right now - I'm only playing a tiny bit here and a tiny bit there, before I devote a lot of my gaming time to Super Bomberman R 2 from next week onwards.
Anyway, this weekend I'll be getting a start on a couple of retro collections, both containing games that I played back when they were new, and both all about classic platforming action.

So, first up is Crash Bandicoot, by way of Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy (Proton). I actually owned this collection back when I was still a Nintendo Switch owner, and it's so good that I grabbed it again during a recent Steam sale. It runs much nicer on the Steam Deck than it did on the Switch, though - though very well-done for the hardware, that port had a number of graphical niceties missing, which detracts a little bit when you're playing what's supposed to be a prettied-up version of an old game; Crash looks suitably cute-and-cuddly on the Steam Deck, since the fur-effects are not missing from this version, and everything's just all-around a bit nicer.

Second up is Mega Man ZX Advent (Nintendo DS), by way of Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection (Proton), since I never got around to finishing this particular game back during the DS-era, in spite of having finished those before it. I don't think it helped that the third-and-probably-final part of the ZX trilogy was publically confirmed as cancelled during that old playthrough-attempt way back when, so plot-threads left dangling in this title were never resolved - that was a bit of a buzzkill. The game has two playable characters, and I'll be playing through with Grey, an amnesiac robot who gets caught up in a chain of events known as the "Game of Destiny". Funnily enough, he shares the same voice-actor as Bomberman!

Super Bomberman R 2 is out next week, on the 13th - I can't wait! By the time of our next weekend gathering, it's very likely that I'll have already finished the story-mode (these are intentionally only an hour or two long, designed for replayability - and for organically learning the ropes if you're new), and will be spending A LOT of time battling. Prepare for Pengling to be a hyperactive bundle of fangirl-squee next week!
Squishy, hahaha! I was only talking about that one action-figure, anyway, alas; As we discussed in last week's thread, a Bomberman football game has the potential to be absolutely hilarious, and it's surprising that it hasn't happened yet.
What the hell was that?!
Obligatory song.
I absolutely love how you follow along with the actual sports seasons with these - it gives the thread some nice seasonal flair.
Hahahaha! Love it!

Nice...... Now you will have to learn KDE........
I look forward to seeing a 6 month review of it.......
Is that a collectathon???...... Also do you think Microsoft will do anything with Crash Bandicoot once the purchase of Activision/Blizzard is finalised????
I have honestly never heard of that game......
So far so good.....
GOD DAMMIT PENGLING!!!!!!
I thought for sure it would have happened during the PS2 era....... It was a prime time for it to happen...... As I said Konami own the Pro Evolution Soccer series...... It would have been real easy to convert that to "Bomberman All-Star Mayhem Soccer"....... But we cant have nice things in this world......
That was Reg Reagan....... A fictional character created and played by former NRL player Matthew Johns..... He was a very popular character on the NRL Footy Show here in Aus in the early to mid 2000's....... Hes meant to be an old tough dinosaur footballer whos annoyed at how soft the game has gotten and wants to "Bring back the biff"......
Ive heard that song 1000 times but have never knew the name of it........
Good to hear..... I have some seasonal events planned for ol Dick Trickle in the future....... 2024 will be the year of the expanded Dickle-verse.......
I also have plans to follow along all the major World Cups..... Rugby, League, Cricket and Soccer in the future...... And the Ashes Series......
LOL yeah I do like that joke......

But I used KDE 16 years ago when I got started. I've been trying it out, but it's definitely not for me - it's even more overkill for my requirements than it was 16 years ago, which was why I moved over to Xfce in the first place. That said, I'm really not the target audience for that feature of the Steam Deck, and they absolutely made the right choice by going with KDE for it.
What, the Steam Deck or Super Bomberman R 2? Seriously, though, I'll probably write up some first impressions a couple of weeks from now.
Not really, no. There are some extras that you can go after to open up some more challenging alternate routes through levels in order to get 100% on your save-file and see an alternate ending, but they're not mandatory. You won't suddenly get completely locked out of being able to reach to the end as you would for missing something in, say, a game like Banjo-Kazooie for the Nintendo 64.
Nah. There's plenty of history from their previous buy-outs already proving that they won't do a thing, and many franchises that died after they bought the companies that owned them.
That's not too surprising - even though it's from a famous series, it's still at the more obscure end of it. Still, the Mega Man Zero games were some of the best non-port platformers on the Game Boy Advance (a system otherwise severely lacking in good original platformer content due to so much porting from the SNES, and a sharp rise in rushed-out licensed tie-in games*), and the Mega Man ZX games continued that trend on the Nintendo DS - they're definitely worth a look! The modern collection containing all six of them adds a bunch of nice quality-of-life features and new difficulty adjustments, as well.
*There were some good licensed titles, though, and I'd be remiss if I didn't call out one in particular here. There was a game based on the animated movie Lilo & Stitch which combined the gameplay of Metal Slug (for Stitch) and Prince of Persia (for Lilo), and it was pretty good.
Meanwhile, Super Bomberman R seems to have completely escaped your notice.
Konami didn't absorb Hudson Soft until 2012*, so that might have been a factor!
*A lot of people don't seem to realise this, but Konami didn't just buy Hudson Soft outright. Rather, they were their biggest shareholder, and absorbed the company when Hudson went bust after a series of poor decisions. This included Bomberman: Act Zero - that disaster of a game actually helped to sink the company.
There's definitely a gap in the market for more quality mascot-led sports games of this sort, especially considering how low-effort the leading brand in this field has become lately. There's even more of a gap outside of said brand's consoles.
I would love to see Konami do more with Bomberman going forward - they're certainly getting it right so far, with Super Bomberman R selling 3 to 4 million copies, and the very-short-lived Super Bomberman R Online pulling in over 7 million downloads in just a year-and-a-half, both with almost no promotion to bring in those figures.
That was utterly bizarre!
Shockingly, the song with the main hook of "Deja Vu" is called "Deja Vu", haha!
Can't wait.
It's too good - I'm going to have to pinch that one!
Thanks, but I'm fine with my PC the way it is. My main workhorse is very GPU-bottlenecked and I don't use it for gaming outside of occasional use of RetroArch and Minetest, neither of which I need a gaming interface for.
I'm afraid I'm not interested in using plug-ins - the Deck as-is already does what I want it to!
There must have been a change in parts-manufacturers at some point, because the screen on mine is very vibrant! I'd say it's the most vibrant of any device I own even on low brightness settings (which I prefer), and I've got a few;

Steam Deck not pictured because this was taken months ago.
I'm not interested in things like this, personally, but thankyou!
There's already an option to display Steam Deck Verified/Playable/etc. status, and I check ProtonDB on my main machine when necessary, so I wouldn't use this.
I really don't need these personally, but I'm glad to hear that the option is there.
I'm fine with the amount of space it has, and am perfectly capable of fitting an upgraded SSD in the future if I need to, but thankyou for the tips.
Again, I believe there must've been a change in parts manufacturers over the last year or so, as the fan in my Steam Deck is very quiet indeed.
Anyway, this isn't a thread for tech-help - it's the weekly event for sharing what you plan to play over the weekend and what you've been playing during the week! What have you been playing? What are your aims for this week and plans for next week? Any screenshots?

Is Murray based on a real person too? No, wait, don't answer that, I'm having such a fun time reading these in the voice of this Murray.
Darn! That segment lasted so long my stiff drink dried up into a stick sugary chocolaty mess... and now the spoon is glued to the bottom of the cup!
Anyhow, good luck with the rugby. It's not a sport I know much about but I do hope you win back the ashes!
Congrats!
The Deck was a really nice gift, but I think something ruby is more traditional for your fortieth right? Maybe you can get one those neat replacement shells for it?
You guys makes me young in comparison. I still have some time before... wait... what's this!?

The only traditions I stand on are marking anniversaries and other such things relating to my favourite games.
Oh no way, I am not doing that, hahaha! I haven't done any re-shelling since fixing up some battered Game Boy Colour units a couple of years ago. Since then I now have a need for reading-glasses for up-close work, not to mention that the GBC is a lot simpler to put back together!
At least fitting upgrades to a Steam Deck is easy enough, but as I mentioned in a post above I don't need to do that right now either.
Hahahahaha!
Heheheheheh.
Incidentally, Super Bomberman R 2 is currently on Steam's "Popular Upcoming" list, which I think is good news.
Oh gawd.

I got this Humble Bundle:
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2023/09/get-a-bunch-of-live-action-fmv-games-from-humble-bundle/
The Complex was what I was most interested in (looked at it on Steam before). A medical sci-fi movie where a breakthrough led to misuse for biological weapons. It's basically a movie, with story choices along the way. Most of them are moral (I chose what I'd do). It's timed choices, but there's a setting in the menu to "pause on choices" in case you're not on the ball. I enjoyed it, I got a "personality rating" of "Altruistic". I survived, and used the data to take down the evil biotechnology exec. There are supposedly 8 endings, but I couldn't see myself changing many of the choices I made. I might have the interest to go through it once more, but then after that there won't be much interest.
The Bunker is more of a point and click game. It's 2D movie graphics, but it doesn't progress until you click the right things to proceed. You have to kind of hover your mouse all around until you find an interactive symbol. There's some dumb arbitrary difficulty there. For example, in one part you are in the hallway (the view shifts to security cam view of you) and presented with two doors. You can't really see that there's on on the left because of the perspective. Both doors are not the answer, if you back track to the original position, you can just barely see there's a door on the left that you're supposed to hover and interact with.
I haven't tried any of the others yet.

Logan's Run... that was a cheesy flick from the 70's lol. It was on TV a lot in the late 70's/early 80's. Still, I found the ending moving when all those people leaving their utopian/dystopian (depending on how you look at it) prison for the first time, saw an old man for the first time, and he was so happy to be among people again. That's what kept me watching it when it was on the goggle box.

I enjoyed The Complex, it wasn't a riveting story and was somewhat predictable but it had just enough choice dialogs to keep me engaged.
The Bunker made some "mistakes" to put it mildly. It had arbitrary difficulty in finding the thing to click (often you had to go pick up something like a note before it even becomes active) and it had arbitrary quick time events, and the worst button mashing I've ever experienced in a game. No, really.
Some of it was hard, to the point that when your mouse clicky finger gets tired the progress goes backwards (hold mouse, use other hand to mash) but they were do-able. However, the final one was nigh impossible with a mouse, at least with my mouse, and me.
It was rigged to just abort, if you don't start clicking insanely fast on the dot immediately and don't stop. (I'd say it's a certain number of clicks have to have elapsed before a timer, not just rate like previous mash events). I was starting to get a sore wrist from trying.
With my XBox 360 controller, it was much the same thing, the biggest problem was getting over to the dot to start button mashing on and you have to keep it there. With a controller, keeping it there is much easier, but the problem is getting there quickly enough. I first tried upping the controller sensitivity to move faster, but then it became harder to stop on it quickly enough.
So I had to get creative. I took a piece of green painters tape (very weakly adhesive masking tape) and stuck it on the screen, in the exact spot the cursor was supposed to be on, so I could have it exactly there ahead of time before the sequence started. Then, resting the controller on my jolly belly for some spring action, I started mashing the A button as quickly as inhumanly possible and got right through it heheh
I enjoyed The Bunker except for that button mashing bollocks. It kind of creeped me out, to feel this poor sod's pain.
